Question Regarding V551 Faceplate

Design wise, I am not very keen on the original Cingular V551 faceplate and am considering replacement.

According to Motorola information, the faceplates are not removable. However, there seem to be many third party suppliers that sell V400/V500 faceplates which supposedly fit the V551. Conversely, a mall kiosk said that the camera holes are slighly different for the V551 and therefore the fit is not perfect.

Does anyone have further information and/or a definitive answer?

I was wondering the same. Do you have to buy tools to remove original face?

Check out www.daydeals.com. A special screwdriver is required for changing faceplates and is available on the website. 😎

The screwdriver is a standard #6 TORX head which can be bought at any local hardware store. Get a small needle or pin and pry out the 4 small cushions on the 4 corners of the inside display. Unscrew the 4 screws, the faceplate should come off. I haven't tried it yet. Need to get #6 TORX (very small).

Can anyone say how well the opening in the aftermarket covers fit the 551 outside screen? It looks slightly smaller. Does it interfere w/ the camera at all?

Are the clear covers tacky? There doesn't appear to be many attractive options.

I bought a faceplate at the mall and it doesn't bother the camera viewing at all. I had to get a new faceplate, because i hate the original one. I plan to buy more faceplates for this phone.

just an fyi, popping the screws out and removing the face plate voids the warranty on the phones, and cingular loves nailing people on that

I would like to get the OEM faceplate to replace mine that is scratched. Does anybody knows oh how I can get one? Don't want the type that you can find online everywhere. They are flimsy and cheap looking.
