Bluetooth phones at risk from 'snarfing'

Check out this link that I read about a new problem with "bluetooth" phones, called "bluesnarfing". Reason for the mention is because in the article they talk about NOKIA phones and since this forum is about the Nokia 6255i which happens to be "bluetooth". I thought I'd pass it on to everyone.

I talked with Nokia, Verizon and Alltel yesterday and Nokia states that neither Alltel or Verizon have not picked up the 6255i to be in their inventory as of yet. But when talking not to one of the regular customer service peeps -- I went to both local stores for Verizon and Alltel and spoke with the managers at the locations and they stated that at Alltel they should hav...

I talked with one at the retail store level on Wednesday of this week and he stated that they were and it would be about the 1st or 2nd week in June.

Now that was here in Charlotte, NC. He said that he has not seen the phone when the Nokia rep came in before but he pretty sure that they (VZW) are getting the Nokia 6255i

That can't be correct. Uscc still hasn't gotten the phone yet, and all the regional carriers will have an exclusive 2 months of carrying the phone before Verizon can carry it. That is what several Nokia reps have stated. That probably was the original tentative release date for Vzw. Now it won't be until at least August, because Uscc won't get it until arounf the first of June. 😉

It is when the first regional provider offers it. Not the last. Cellular and Midwest Wireless started selling in Mid April so Mid June should be the time frame for VZW to get it.

Again I am only telling you what the store manager told me. If you'd like I'll go back to the store and get his name and number and you can call him and dispute it with him.

As I said before from reading this forum for the past couple of weeks --
I talked with Nokia, Verizon and Alltel (Wednesday 5/4/05) and Nokia states that neither Alltel or Verizon have not picked up the 6255i to be in their inventory as of yet. The person @ Nokia states that once a carrier picks up a phone or decides to have that phone in their inventory it normally takes about a week or two when the stores start selling them to the general public.

I went to both local stores for Verizon and Alltel and spoke with the "managers" at the locations and they stated ...

Here is the number that I called for Nokia -- Nokia 888-665-4228 // all I said to the representative was when will "_______" get the 6255i.

They will want your phone number and name - mainly to log the call and that is about it. The rep placed me on hold for about a min and came back with my information. Now if he was being truthful or not that is another issue or if he really knew. He did tell me that when said companies order or decide to carry that phone then it's normally within a week or two that the local stores are selling it too the public.

Since I have been reading the forums I noticed that most people were inquiring about Alltel and VZW for the most part. So I figured that I would inquire with both companies and with Nokia.

Very well said Dutsguru. All I know is, if Altell gets the 6255i before USCC gets it, I'm a new Altell customer. Whoever gets it first is where my new contract gets signed.
