Going with Motorola V710 instead now...

I've been so dead set on getting the VX7000 for the past few weeks now. But after looking at the V710 today I realized how much better it is than the VX7000. It has a 1.2 megapixel display as compared to the VX7000's 640x480. IT HAS BLUETOOTH!!! which vx7000 does not. That in itself should be a huge selling point. You can video clips up to 3 min long compared to the VX7000's 15 second clips. It has 10MB of memory which you can upgrade. It has Speakerphone (office quality!!). It is just a far superior phone in my opinion, even better than the VX8000. and going to be priced almost the same. Yep, my mind is made up. I'm gettin the V710.

Ummm...you guys should do your research. Out of the box the V710 an only capture 3min of footage. However the V710 has an input for a flash card. So if you have a 256MB flash card you can record up to 300 clips. And no the VX7000 does not have the same capability.

yeah adding memory is nice but.....can you take clips longer than 15 seconds. or will you have a ton of 15 second clips?

According to this link, you can only record 15 second clips, but that is true of the VX7000 also.

i was waitng on the 710 for a few months, but after all of the hold ups ive started to doubt it. yeas, i would love to have a blue tooth ready, speakerphone, 1.2mp camera, up to 3min video sporage, removable memory card, free headset, mp3 play/store, extending antenna, and a generally better looking phone..... but the fact is. the 710 has been held up so many times, there truly must be problems with the phone because vzw is not stupid enough to release 2 similar phones that close together but not on the same day, making all of the instant gratifiers out there (self included) buy the 7000 (ignoring the 9900). VZW will put the phone out as soon as the rationally can do so, theyre not goinr to release a phone with so many bugs that it sends ...

Well put. I think that is a very good idea. I forgot about the 15 day trial period they give. Gives you just enough time play with each phone and decide which one you want.

i like the idea of trying both, but are u sure the 7000 and the v710 are going to come out within 15 days of each other. if not, then ur screwed. also, do the verizon stores really stock up on a lot of the new phones or are they gonna be sold out within a week and not restocked for another month?

"best thing to do as i see it for vzw customers is get the 7000 opening day. play with it. play with it a lot. on the 5th go trade it in for the 710."

I'm sorry, but as a retailer, AND as a consumer, I HATE people with this mentality. Basically, you are buying something that you KNOW you aren't going to keep, you use it, then you go in and want something else that you may not keep.

As a retailer, I can tell you that I lose more money because of this than for any other reason. You can essentially buy a phone, and then return it used, but get your full credit for it, but then, I get stuck with it and I cannot resell it as new. So because of this, I slowly have to charge more and more for a phone as "insurance" for people who are ret...

I'm sorry but I don't give a **** if the company is losing money because people are returning phones. It is ridiculous to ask consumers to buy phones with the intention of never returning them. What if I don't like it? I'm not about having the next best thing. But with the money I'm spending on these phones it damn well better worth what I'm paying. And if I'm not satisfied then I will definately return and either ask for my money back or for something better. How can you expect us to make educated decisions if the only thing the companies provide are technical specs. It doesn't tell us how reliable these phones are or what kind of service the phones will provide. If more companies offered a "TRY AND BUY" option then I think that wou...

I never said that people shouldn't be allowed to return something they don't like. He was advocating buying something and then returning it to try something else. Nowhere in there did he ever say anything about returning it only if you didn't like it. Returns are fine if there is a valid reason. If the product is poor, if it's not what you want, etc. but that's not what he was saying.
If you're not satisfied, by all means, return it. But don't buy it KNOWING you'll return it. And "all the money" you're spending on these phones is just a fraction of what they cost the companies that sell them to you. If the phones actually cost me what I sell them to you for, I wouldn't worry as much, but you save $80-150 over what I pay, and when you...

I understand that retailers pay more for the phones and the MSRP is often less then what you pay for it. However, the phone companies do not make their money off of selling phones. They make all of their money with the service, contracts and extras they offer. They make people believe these phones pay for themselves which is completely false. Most people pay about $50/month for their service x 12 months/yr or 24 months depending on your contract. Which comes out to $600/yr or $1200/2yrs respectively. Phones companies stand to profit by almost 100% because they overcharge customers on their service. I will do whatever I can to get a return on my money.

"What would you do if you got the 7000 with the intent of returning it, then got a 710, and realized the 7000 is better? Would you return the 710 for another 7000?" --- Exactly.

"I mean, would you be honest and say, "I'm just taking this phone for a few days and then I'll bring it back and get a new one." --- Yes, I actually would. If they then said that it wasnt a valid reason, i wouldnt fight it, id really just say to myself, "well, i guess thats not going to work, this phone is great anyway" im very accustomed to not getting what i want, and as i said before, i have stuck with the same t720 for the past 2 years, and havent complained once about it, i do in fact deffend the phone becasue even though i am aware of its problems, the thin...

That is a STUPID idea. If companies allow people to leave a store to 'try out' a phone for a few days....99.9% of the time that phone will NOT be returned by the customer. Because if they like the phone...forget it...they won't bring it back. The company is not going to send a witchhunt out for people whose supposedly wanna try out the phone. Good chance those people just wanna used a cell phone for a weekend trip and then rack up 4000 minutes without purchasing a plan.

If you go into any VZW store...they have 'live' models for you to touch and see how the phone functions...most people instantly know what they wanted based on their personal needs. Picky people can see the functionally of the live models if they are unsure.

Just to add to buzzkid's response...In the first part, we DO allow customers to try out a phone, but not as a loaner. We will actually activate them under the 15-day worry free guarantee, take a credit card number, and put our trial phone ESN on their account. They are responsible for the billable minutes, but they aren't adding call time to a new phone. Then, if they like it, they can come back, get a brand new phone at the new-activation price, we'll ESN change onto their new phone, and they are good to go. It just saves us from having a customer who is obviously skeptical about keeping the phone from having to try out the phone on a brand new unit. It actually works quite well. But we DO definatley take a credit card number BEFORE w...

All very valid points. I applaud you for atelast being honest to the store. I consider myself a very flexible store owner, and I'll go out of my way for a customer if they are just nice and respect that I have to make a living too. There are so many customers who come in and make up problems when in reality they just don't like the way a phone looks. Then I send it off and the manufacturer is like, "There's nothing wrong with this phone." Then I look like an idiot and wasted a lot of time when the customer could've just been honest with me.

I'll be honest to you...Do whatever the heck you want to VZW corporate stores, Radio Shacks, Circuit Cities, etc, but keep in mind (generalized, not just to you carbonbased) that Locally Owned A...

Unlike everyone else who is bashing you as a seller I understand you but as a consumer I also understand where everyone is coming from. People just don't realize that those types of return make the company lose money and if that pattern continues over a stretch of time then that is the way a company goes belly up and you're forced to switch to Sprint or a company not as well as the one you currently have. If that pattern continues then you'll see that 15 day window get shorter and shorter so people will end up forgetting they have that time period and it would have already passed. As a seller you have to remember that only a small percentage of VZW customers are tech junkies like us and use every feature so I don't see them losing that much ...

No you cannot take clips longer than 15 seconds. The reason for that is when sending a flix message it has a limit of only 15 seconds which is equal to that of any other carriers video messaging capabilities. With the t-flash card it simply means you can take more clips and snap more pix. It is a nice feature for the phone but i'll own both of them to make the supreme judgement but i'll have to keep the v710 because I already bought a BT headset about a month ago. Aslo with the v710 you're able to connect to national access/ express netweork wirelessly so that is a plus.
