wrath

The specs do not show WIFI though the 2 stores that I spoke with both confirmed the phone will have WIFI. What is the final answer?

well i go by the sprint developer site: http://developer.sprint.com/view_devices.do?d evice=79530
and it states there is no wifi on the phone. i personally don't see the point since the phone has evdo..maybe thats why they took it out, the gsm was slow data, so they offered it..

Wrong on both aspects...
The touch has NO evdo rev A not even upgradable according to specs its rev 0 and has no wifi. Also the mogul is rev A upgradable and does have wifi. So next time reearch your facts before you post such nonesense

Same chip as the Mogul, so it should be upgradeable to Rev A as well. I also hear the GPS might be enabled on the touch in the same update.

according to phonescoop specs it lists rev 0 on the touch and doesnt mention upgradability to rev A versus the mogul it lists rev A. Also i the developer notes it clearly states rev 0 on the touch. as far as procesor chip they are the same accordig to specs

I know I have read in several places that the Touch will eventually be upgraded to Rev. A. I mean, since they will already have the software available for the Mogul, there is no reason why they wouldn't apply it to the Touch as well.

As time goes on, you will see less and less of the CDMA phones witrh wi-fi. I used to have Cingular, and trust me, thier smartphones all have wi-fi becasue they need it. AT&Ts rollout of 3G is still primarily around metro areas, which means if you aren't near these places you won't get it.
Since I have been with Sprint, my EVDO works so well, I can honestly say I don't miss it and you wouldn't beleive some of the zip codes I get EVDO (23868 and 23887) basincally in the middle of nowhere where there is no GSM signal period.

Besides, the phones are cheaper without it.

It shows on the HTC website that it does have WiFi. Go to www.htc.com for details.

I think thats the GSM Touch. HTC's name for the Sprint version is actually the Vogue. I for one, will not miss WiFi at all. EVDO is far more accessible and faster too!

...Evolution Data Optimized is great and all, but only if its available in your area. It certainly is in mine, but i can understand if people who purchase the Mogul have no need for EV-DO since its not available. Thus, having Wi-Fi a GREAT feature to the phone. As of the Rev-A, the Mogl update is coming sometime December, and the update is to take place for 2 of Sprints HTC phones. The Touch and the Mogul. So yes, these 2 Windows Mobile 6 phones will have Rev-A hopefully by the end of the year! (I highly doubt it however) they first said Fall of '07, no theyre saying Winter of '07 😛

Looks like it won't be until 2008 now. See this from the HTC Support site for the Mogul Software Update page:
"NOTE: The ROM update version 2.16.651 posted on 10/24/2007 which had Bluetooth fixes has been removed. Update 2.16 caused some unanticipated conflicts in device performance. The Bluetooth fixes will be added to a future ROM update expected in early 2008. If you already updated your device to version 2.16, you can restore your device to the prior version by installing the file posted below. Please bookmark this webpage for future software updates."

If you don't have EVDO coverage in your area, what are you doing buying a $250 smartphone? I think the group of people that you are speaking about is quite small. Most people are justing whining after features they will never use, but want to say they have.

I'm not whining. And we're not a small group. Lots of us live in rural enough areas were EVDO hasn't hit yet, and lots of us have smartphones. Why? Because they still do everything they do, just a little slower. At the absolute worst, I'd say we're just a hell of a lot more patient than most. And besides, if people want the functionality that comes along with a PDA, I dare you to find one they can buy that DOESN'T have evdo.

StarryNight your ABSOLUTELY correct. The Speeds the phone gets you isnt the only thing the phone is used for, I swear some people can be so ignorant 🙄
Wi-Fi is still a great feature, but also the Windows Mobile 6 etc etc 😉

It has wifi. and btw for the idiot who said they go by the sprint site, DON'T GO BY SPRINT'S SITE. They get everything wrong. They say the Mogul doesn't have a memory card slot but it does, they said that the Centro doesn't have an internet browser obviously it does. Sprint is stupid when it comes to phones.

so you've actually held in your hand a version of the cdma-based sprint-sold htc touch that had built-in wi-fi? as far as i knew, only the older gsm version had working wi-fi hardware...

if so, can it do tkip wpa2 or even wpa encryption?
