It's not a razor, it's an 8200 that was run over by a truck.

In the process of being squished, somehow there was a crippled bluetooth chip that got mixed up in there. The screen got bigger, but that's expected when it gets rolled over.
I can prove it; Go to the comparison for this phone, and it is almost identical to the 8200's:

Same battery life,
Same camera,
Same weight (almost),
Same Vision,

The only difference is that the 8200 came out two years ago. Sanyo is two years behind, even themselves, let alone the competition.

The Katan is a Good Phone

Quit comparing the Katana to the Blade. The Katana looks to be another quality phone produced by Sanyo. it doesn't need to be EVDO, or have MP3's or Sprint TV. Not everyone wants a phone that can do that. Some people want a phone that they can talk on. I know that this is a hard concept to understand, but some people may only want, are you ready for this, a phone that they talk on. 😳 How dare they only want a phone that looks good and is only for talking. Yes, the price might be a little steep for a phone that does not have all of the bells and whistles. But that will change soon. It is a GREAT phone for someone who just wants a thin phone. Just because you may want EVDO and MP3's and Sprint TV, doesn't mean that the next person does. I t...

how can I get ringtones / data cable does not work

I first thought that I could use a data cable, but after calling sprint, they said it only works on evdo networks.

I set up an account on funtonia.com, and they didn't send the message, and could not download it directly from the phones browser.

Is there any providers that allow you to upload a mp3 and send it to your phone?

Acura Hands Free Compatability

🙄
Does anyone know if this phone is compatible with the Acura Hands-free system? Some phones say they will work, but they either don't or are only partially functional with limited features. The Acura site says this phone is in testing.

HOW THE KATANA IS BETTER THEN THE RAZR

the katana is its own phone. lets compare something if someone was looking for style. they have 2 choices. either go to kohls or go to gap. you can get the same shirt for 20 bucks at kohls or get the shirt that has gap on the tag for 75 bucks. people are looking to save themselves money. not for high speed. yeah there is a high speed razr phone the a900. but look inside yourselves for a second and no be a phone lover. what do you think your customer is going tosay. the customer will say im looking for a phone and interested in sprint. i want a camera phone with internet and something cheap with good signal. sure let me show you the katana by sprint. i bet only 95% of people at sprint dont know what evdo is or dont care. most people want a ph...

razr copycats

why would anybody else bother copying the RAZR? the RAZR is so common, they should spend more time finding a successor to the razr instead of trying to copy it.

Lets cry about it

Yo, this phone rocks. You can't get any better unless you chose the razr from Cingular or Verizon, and lets not even mention T-Mobile. If you're a Sprint customer then quit complaining. Sanyos rock the hizzie!!

OK so its Lacking But...

Its awsome for my girlfriend.. Someone said it will have other colors.. I can Only hope Pink is 1 of them.. If so i will buy this in a snap. My GF wont ever use EVdo fetures.. so thats fine.. (also better for saving money!!!!!) She wont switch from sprint to VZN so if theres somthing i can do for her thats get this phone so she wont have a bulge in her pocket... Thats all I have to say.. Oh and Yeah it is silly that there are lables on the phone to what is what... example.. "digital cameral" under the lense.. that kinda funny..

Other features

Rich,

aside from the lack of EVDO and only sporting a VGA camera, what else does this phone have? does it have speakerphone, music player, or anything else like that, or is it just a basic sanyo phone that was crammed into a slimline body?

Mistake on my part...

...as I thought Sanyo wouldn't think of releasing the Katana without EVDO built in. Looks like I'm eating crow.

Katana Ports?

Rich, what kind of data port did the Katana have? Did it have the standard sanyo port, or a mini USB port like the RAZR.

Sorry about the quality

Thanks to Amtrak, I was a full 90 minutes late for the event last night. That didn't leave me with as much time as I had hoped with the new phones. That's why there aren't as many details or photos as we usually try to put in our In Depth articles.

Also, my Canon camera is busted, so I was stuck with my crappy backup camera. That's why the photos aren't quite as good quality as we usually strive for.

I hope the article still provides some useful info and eye candy for folks.

Please feel free to ask questions.

Nothing exciting in summer...

I'm still waiting for Sanyo to catch up with Samsung and get (micro)SD, Bluetooth and EVDO all in one great package...

My Samsung a920 works ok, but won't sort my SMS messages into folders. And it won't let me add words to the T9 feature, which includes some useful common spanish words but misses a few obvious English ones. Starting movies takes about 15 seconds longer on the a920 than the Sanyo 5600, and if you get a call while watching, well, get ready to start the movie over. After you get done fast-forwarding up to where you left off, at least it has a rewind button to correct when you skip too far, unlike the Sanyo. But every time I've used it like this, its frozen the player, and I had to take the battery off to reset the phone. ...
