upgrades

I'm going to be so happy when all of the indirect dealers are finally able to do their own upgrade laters in FDT cause I have a feeling that these are going to be big sellers cause those of us over here in sales support cant stand doing them

Nextel plan and i580 phone

I currently have U.S. Cellular and want to switch to Nextel. My USCC plan expires on 7/2.

The plan I want is the Fair and Flexible Family Plan and the offer for the plan expires on 6/18 which is the same day that the i580 is said to be released.

My question is: Can I buy a cheap phone with the plan I want before the plan expires and then when the i580 comes out somehow be able to buy it for the 2-year contract price? Is there some loophole that I can use?

I580 in FDT

The i580 is in FDT today, so maybe it will be pretty soon that it is available.

Bad News.......

I just recieved a new updated 3 month release grid, and it now states that the i580 may not be available until 7/2/06 instead of 6/18/06 as a reported earlier. This is due to the lack of sales on the i860 which is what this phone replaces.

Dual-Mode CDMA/iDEN?

Ok, so we've probably all heard of Sprint/Nextel's supposed release of a dual-mode phone.

I would like to table this thought - TDMA/GSM dual-mode (gait) phones failed so miserably that carriers dropped them as fast as a habitual roamer...

Essentially, we are looking at the same frequency split: 850/1900 Mhz. So what makes the new Sprint/Nextel think that this will work?

Press release from the company suggests that there will be no cross-technology PTT in the near future. It is my understanding that the CDMA ch/fq will carry voice and data whilst iDEN will carry PTT. Is this correct? And what ever happened to the rumor of the DoD and select Gov. agencies (via the FCC) taking over the iDEN technology for their communication...

The look of the phone

I had noticed that when phone scoop did an article on the i580 and the i670, they had compared the i580 to the i560 and it was so much bigger. Is that because of all the components that they had to stick into the phone and then rubberize it? I don't think that will make a difference to the people who want all those features in a rugged phone. I was just wondering.

nextel PTT and bluetooth

is it possilbe to use the PTT with a bluetooth headset on? I am assuming that you would just push the ptt button and it would send the audio to the bluetooth headset like if the DC speaker was set to off.

Thanks in advance!

ZOMFG can't wait for Helio...

Look at the interface! It's so... clean... and efficient... look how many fields they fit on that QVGA screen - my Samsung with the same resolution only fits 3 or 4... wow... just wow. Bout time someone gave us something that could even slightly compete with Japanese and South Korean carriers.

VX8400???

Here is what I find interesting.
The FCC site shows that the VX8300 was submitted on 03/03/06 and the VX8400 was submitted on 11/18/05.
However, there is no mention of the VX8400 from CITA.

The FCC site says the External Test Photos for the VX8300 will be up available on 10/14/06, and the External Test Photos for the VX8400 on 05/17/06.

To Rich or Eric

Did you guys notice how CTIA has become more insignificant? There seems like there were less attendance, the venue seemed smaller and not many things were announced this years as was last year.

There was less hype. It was almost quiet.

I was wondering if you felt that and if you think that this is a hiccup for 2006 or an ongoing trend?

Future Helio Handsets (Samsung?)

Helio did mention they had a Samsung handset comming out in the fall after the initial push with a design that has "already been successfull" or something to that liking.

Are we supposed to start thinking SLIM A900 with more features here?

Nokia GPS

Any bets on if Verizon will disable the standalone GPS??

I'm going to say that they will disable it since there would be a competing BREW program

Jitterbug and GreatCall

Now after getting some clarification, I take back the snide remarks about this particular MVNO. It looks like GreatCall has done its research. And I actually dig the Jitterbug phone. It's pretty neat (and damn, are those some large buttons!).
