MicroSD card

Has anyone had an issue with the sanDisk causing the phone to power off and the screen to go white. As soon as I put the card in the phone just stops working all the together. Once I take the card out I can power the phone back on.

I tried powering off the phone then inserting the card and powering the phone back up but that did not work either. At first I thought it was going to power on but it just keeps flashing white.

Can anyone help??

Can anyone tell me how to switch the MP3 Player from the ear speaker to the speaker phone speaker? I purchased this phone used and I can't find any documentation about it.

On the Motorola i580, once an mp3 has been downloaded can you use that as a rigntone? If not, must you buy the ringtone or can one in a different format be used and how do you do it?

colors

Probably a silly question, but with what color is the keypad back-lit on the i580? Is it blue, or yellow like the i530? Also, what color is the outside monochrome screen?

Just curious, as I am looking to purchase one.

I upgraded from an i530 to an i880 recently, which turned out being a mistake. I tend to beat my phones up (not intentionally, it just happens), because I'm a farmer and also work at a steel mill. My i880's keypad quit working after only two months of use, and the sound would also stop/start working randomly. Because of this, I've decided to stick with rugged phones.

i580 and Service in Tri- State area

So, I have Verizon..."Best service out there"...but still drop calls here and there. I live out here in coastal NJ and wonder about Nextel's service in this area, any help? Also, I work for Verizon..landline that is...as a lineman. Since I'm up on poles all day and out in the elements, just how indestructable is this phone?

Thanks

Problems

Ok, I thought this thing was the greatest thing in the world but now I'm on my 4th one. Every now and then I get a digitized distortion on my end that forces me to hang up. Immediatly after I hang up, it's fine. I can't figure out what makes it happen, but most of the time when it does happen, it starts immediatly into the phone call. Has anyone else had this problem?

The last one I had the camera also went bad on, but the sound seems to be a model issue...

Backlight

While on a call, my backlight will Dim, but not turn off. Then after 30 sec (minimal time I can set backlight to turn off) lights on the keypad will turn off but the display light still stays on but Dimmed. The backlight never completely turns off. Is there any way to turn this feature off? It seems to run my battery down by being on.

i580 availability

I work in the construction industry and just don't understand why the other carriers, cingular, verizon, etc can't offer at least one or two of the mil spec phones like this new i580 I just purchased.

Nextel coverage is spotty here and I prefer the coverage I get with my cingular phone, but you just can't beat this rugged i580. When the coverage is there this phone is absolutely the best deal going.

I just don't understand why the other carriers ignore the massive construction industry that is available to them if they would only get a rugged mil spec phone. It can't be that hard for motorola to build this same phome for the GSM network.

I'm dumping my cingular plan and going with Nextel only because of the top notch equipment. ...

FYI - Audio Player with flip closed

This may be in the manual somewhere, but if not, when the flip is closed you can use the recent calls/hang up button on the outside of the phone to bring up (1st) recent calls (2nd) "Audio Player", then click the speaker button to start the audio player. I haven't figured out how to change songs, but this at least gets it going without opening the phone.

what media format does the 580 identify??

what media format does the 580 identify
to play in the media center for videos..??

i have been on the phone with NEXTEL
customer service and they told me it
supports .mp4 and .mpeg.. so i downloaded
a few videos that were of those formats..
and the phone never found the files on
the memory card..

so i called up motorola techsupport and
the only part of info they could tell
me is the phone only supports video files
from 8 to 30 secs long.. but would that
stop the phone from actually noticing the
file was there..??

see when putting mp3's i noticed there is
a "audio" folder so i just drapped the
files into that folder and renamed them
under 16 charactors and then you need to
make the mp3 a read-only file through ...

Question...

The playback on this phone is great, for MP3s anyhow. WAV playback sounds distorted, likely because, well, it's WAV files we're talking about.

My question is, is there a way for me to use MP3 files as ringtones? I tried downloading the MP3s with .wav extensions, but that didnt fool the phone. If it matters, the files are on the phone itself, not on the card. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
