I may get this phone I need some help

Just trying to make up my mind, I was wondering how well is the mp3 player in this phone, IS STEREO; I just need the mini SD, could I plug an FM Transmitter for my car???
And also if I have a phone which is able of Vcast that necessarily means the internet in the phone is going to be faster than a non Vcast phone??
Thanks in advance,

VCAST video clips and the mini SD slot

I have a question specific to the Audiovox 8940. Is it possible when viewing a VCAST video clip to save downloadable clips to a mini SD card?

Thanks in advance.

WAP and Laptop Tethering Explained

WAP (wireless application protocol) is an internet protocol designed for mobile devices. Cell phones use a special type of browser (typically made by Openwave) that access WAP pages. WAP is a condensed version of the standard internet made to fit on a much smaller screen. WAP pages typically have very few graphics and are mostly all text. Sports, weather, and news headlines lend themselves very well to WAP. Most of the big web sites are WAP enabled – meaning, in addition to their regular web pages they also have a smaller WAP version.

Surfing with WAP uses very little bandwidth. With only text and a few small photos you are just not going to be able to download that much information. Attaching your cell phone to your lap top with a USB ca...

Be very careful what you decide to toy around with. It is VERY EASY to totally mess up your phone beyond repair. 😢

Using phone as modem

There are alot of threads on the LG 8000 forum about this. Has anyone tried using the 8940 to connect your computer to the internet ?
I read before that the 8900 data cable works for the 8940. What software do you use to connect to the net, and what number do you dial? Or do you have the phone set on data only?
I'm a little newby on this subject.
Thanks in advance.

Uploading Ringtones

I've seen a couple messages within threads here about varying degrees of success uploading music to be used as ringtones.

I'm unable to and here's what I've tried:

I used Audacity to chop an MP3 down to 30 seconds. It's 450 KB. (too big?) I copied it and renamed with a "mid" extension. When trying to send as from VZW website I cannot upload it. Trying to Upload the MP3 or MID resulted in "Error: Invalid media type for upload". So I can't attach.

I sent to my phone the MID file (phonenumber@vzwpix.com) from a yahoo account where I *could* attach. I get the Email. The file is attached. But cannot do anything with it. Menu > Save Media says "No Object Found". "Play" says "Unsuuported content type audio/midi".

I tried looking for it ...

Does this phone make that "click" noise when opened?

Does the 8940 click when its opened like the cdm-9900 or the sanyos from sprint? Also, is the camera quality any good? is the camcorder at least decent?

Email pics to phone

I thought that I could cheat Verizon a little and send more than picture to my phone's email to use as wallpapers, screen savers. So I get the msg in my inbox, and it displays all the pics attached. I save them to the phone, then go to Media Gallery/Images, and there they are. The problem is that the pics are all black. Why would they display properly in the inbox but not when saved individually in the Media Gallery?
By the way, I cant' find a way to move them to the SD card. They have to stay on the phone?
Geese, if we could only just upload pix/flix from the SD card, this would be alot simpler!!
Thanks for nothing Verizon.

3/32" to 1/8" adaptor

I want to hook up my 8940 to my stereo system to play the MP3's. So I go to RadioShack and pick up the adaptor to go from the phone to the standard 1/8" mini headphone jack, then to RCA left/right plugs to the stereo. It kinda works. First problem is that the plug doesn't like to stay all the way in because of the little rubber cap on the phone. It gets in the way and kind of forces the plug out. If I get luck it will stay in 50% of the time.
The second problem is that it doesn't play in stereo. Something about the connections in the plug in the phone (with the microphone part); I only get mono sound from the left channel.
Does anyone know of a different adaptor to get stereo sound from the phone to a stereo. And I really don't want to rem...

Vibrate for SMS recieve and voicemail?

I understand how to set my 8940 to vibrate-and-then-ring for phone calls. But does anyone know if I can make it vibrate instead of ring for SMS message receive and for voicemail notifications?

I tested it this morning and all I could make it do was assign one of my ringers (the tones or download tones) to SMS message receive and voicemail. I'm used to being able to select vibrate instead of audio ring for these items.

Thanks in advance...

Bye Forum - Tranded 8940 for 8000

It's a lot bigger, but there were too many detriments.

Vibe was way too low. Rings too low. Crippled SD. Speakerphone not even useful.

I really gave this phone a shot, i really did. In the end though.. now looking back on it, it doesn't compare to the 8000.

It's actually not bad in my pocket either. I wish the 8940 had what i needed too - i like the buttoms and the look better.. but, you have to make a choice at one point.

To those still within 15 days (everyone) - you might want to consider the 8000. I am unbiased..

Peace out!

TIME ON 8940 FLUCTUATING.

I've had the 8940 since feb 1 and for the first couple of days I had no problem with the time display. After about the 3rd or fourth day, whenever it seems i am in EV mode or Vcast, my time switches to 5 hrs ahead or london time 😕 . I am in the nyc area and work by LGA airport. Don't know if it has anything to do with being near the airport but customer service has no clue why this is happening. Whenever i goto world time, the phone knows what time nyc is supposed to be but doesnt show that time on the display. I was off for 3 days from work and when i got in to work this morning , the time changed again. Anybody else having this problem? I can't even change the time on the phone manually if i wanted to, don't have that option. I guess I'll...

Worst of the 3 new phones - Samsung wins again - MIni Review

Okay here we go..

I am certainly a power user. I have owned every pohne on the Verizon Network and spent my career with AT&T in Network Design. Does that make me an Expert ? Not sure, but I know my stuff !

I bought the LG8000 and the 890 to test both.

The 890 is awesome !

The Audiovox 8940 is a disaster. The first thing you must look at in a phone is simply the Voice Quality. The D/A convertors in the Audiovox which are the little devices that convert your voice to digital and back are horrible. The voice quality on the 8940 is almost unusable. People who are used to having low quality conversation might be okay with it but if you have owned a samsung you know what good voice quality is.
Also the 8940 speakerphone is horribly lo...

My experience with the 8000 and Audiovox 8940

Picked up the LG 8000 on release day (upgraded from LG 6000) and loved everything about the phone except for its size. I use a holster and it felt like I had a brick on my belt. After about a week I decided that it was too big a phone for my tastes and returned it for the Audiovox 8940. I had wanted a speakerphone so I went with the 8940 over the Samsung 890. The 8940 speakerphone is such a piece of crap that they should have left it off as a feature. The calls sounded tinny and the front LCD had 3 choices of wallpaper that were embarrasing. The vibrate was so soft that I was missing calls with the phone in my pocket. Everything about the phone seemed cheap and a step backwards from my LG 6000. After 3 days I found a retail store that carrie...

In my Opinion

Looking at the 8940 is just like the 8900 with upgraded features. The speaker on the 8940 is even worse than that of the 8900. The menu system is basically the same. Whats the point of a mini sd card slot if Verizon deliberately cripples it's working features? Just like they did with the V710. It's called money hungry corporate greed. Verizon isn't happy with it's billion dollar revenue each year so they need to squeeze an extra 25 cents out of every customer who wants to send a picture. IMO I rater spend that 25 cents and have a photo lab process the picture taken with a 5mp quality camera.

miniSD question

So, I've been reading the posts, and I'm confused about what exactly you can do with the miniSD card.

Can you transfer items from internal flash to the miniSD card and they end up encrypted on the SD card or can you not transfer them in the first place?

If you can transfer them can someone post some files in their encrypted form?
