How's the 6100 reception (vs. A270)?

Hi there--

I am about to make the big switch from Sprint after about five years. My big complaint with Sprint in NYC has been mediocre reception--thus the move to VZW, which is said to have the best coverage in NY.

That said, once I move over, I want to make sure the phone I get has the best reception--otherwise what's the point.

For those of you who are in the know, how is the 6100's reception? The other major contender I'm considering is the A670--how do the two stack up on reception?

MANY thanks for your input.

Setting # of rings B4 voicemail picks up

Can someone help me figure out how to do this? I'm sure it should be a simple adjustment, but I can't find it anywhere in the owner's manual. Thanks in advance.

Locking the Phone

I didn't know this until today, but for those of you who are upset that the buttons on the side are too easily pressed etc.. did you know that you can lock your phone? When you do, you can't press those side buttons (well you can, but they wont do anything) which means driving mode won't be activated, no pictures will be taken, and the volume won't change. hold down pound to activate, and to deactivate, where it normally says contacts, it will say deactivate. the code is the last four digits of your cell phone number!!

Inbox alert disable?

When I receive an email on the phone, I get an annoying pop-up alert that I have a new message, asking if I want to read or ignore it. It would be nice to simply disable that, with just having a beep or some other subtle alert, keeping the screen untouched unless/until I am ready to view messages.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Caller ID???

I've done a search but can't find the answer.

I have my 6100 in Forced 'Cell Only' mode to get a good local signal indoors. As a result I see 'unknown caller' come up on my home CID screens. At my work landline phone it does show the proper 262-xxx-xxxx number.

If I switch the forced programming so I'm not roaming on another's tower will I then see the correct CID show up at home?

Talked to Verizon

I am in Columbus, OH. Talked to Verizon via *611, told him of the volume problem, he then called LG, they told him they are aware of the problem and that it will be fixed soon. Customers will be notified by mail when the fix is available at the Verizon stores.

Multiple emails to phone

I finally picked up the vx6100 yesterday and like most of what I see. The one thing I haven't yet figured out is, if I receive multiple emails (not SMS messages, but emails) to the phone, I have yet to find a way to jump to message #2 right after reading message #1. Thus far, it seems I can only read one message, decide then and there if I want to save, delete, etc, and only then go to the next (or previous) message.

On my ol' Motorola 7868 I had the easy ability to scroll among messages very quickly. I reread the manual, but it is doesn't say much about this.

Thanks for any insight.

Trigger voice dial from handsfree headset

I have not been able to get an answer to this question. On my Samsung a530, using a headset with an answer/end button, I can touch the button and trigger the phone into voicedial mode. I know the a670 does this as well. This is an important feature to me as I have a Jabra 110/220 bluetooth/adapter set and can touch the button, voice dial or answer the phone without ever touching the phone. It can even be in your pocket. I am looking at the lg 6100 vs the Samsung a670, but from everything I read about the LG, you have to either open the phone, or press the side button to trigger the voicedial. Does anyone know if you can trigger the 6100 into voicedial, or answer the phone using a headset answer/end button?

Thanks!

"No-one knows", re: what from the 6000 fits the 6100?

Sorry to take up bandwidth re-asking this, but does anyone know if the LG 6000 charging or antenna connections fit right up and work ok with the 6100, and second question, can 6000 holsters fit right up on the 6100?

Thanks in advance for any info on this, as very few vendors have info yet "for" the 6100.

The volume bug is a pita, but otherwise I do like the phone and would like to keep it... will be looking for the bigger battery as well, as the factory holster is "bugged" out for it and might as well get one, the skinny factory battery is ok but could use a bit more staying power...

Whoa! Improved Reception after new PRL Loaded. 'TMBS', comments please!!

I need someone more familiar with PRL updates to answer this one-TMBS are you there?! 😲

PRIOR to this past Saturday I had to force mode mine to 'Cell Only' to get a decent indoor signal. Outdoors was OK but 'CELL only' still pulled a stronger signal there as well. (Note, this is in the Milw/Waukesha, WI area).

NOW when I leave it on 'Automatic' it still switches to 'Extended Network' in my workplace (as I'd expect due to the CDMA 800 signal is better than the CDMA 1900 BUT the signal strength now matches or slightly exceeds that of the CELL ONLY setting.

Does this make any sense?? Note that I'm comparing the 'Rx Power' levels at all settings.

Front Screen not as blue/white???

my front screen does not light up like the 2nd pic in the info section. the screen looks bluish white in the pic. mine looks tannish and not blue at all. it's not a big deal, but i don't know if that means there is something wrong with the light. i already tried all different contrasts and whatnot. does everyones else's front screen look like the one in the 2nd pic?

Cable for 6100 - Did I read correctly

I scanned many threads today, so many they all ran together in fact, but I think I read in one of them that the data cable for the 6100 is the same as the 7000. Can someone verify that? If so what software are people recommending for syncing with Outlook? I haven't seen anthing official from LG or Verizon but thought maybe someone has tried.

Thank you for your time and response.

disabling analog

Just out of curiosity, is there any way
to disable analog on 6100 (i.e. so that
it doesn't try to acquire analog signal
at all)?
Thanks.

Low ring tone when flip is open on 6100

I'm very used to keeping the flip when I'm charging my phone and so far the only thing that annoys me is that even if the ringer is set on high when the flip is open the ringer is very low. If an incoming call came in when the flip is open I cannot hear it if I'm in the other room. If the flip was closed, the it's not an issue. Perhaps it could be set up this way cuz the speaker is on the flip Is this a bug or is everyone's 6100 ringer the same way? Feedback please.

How's the battery life?

How is the battery life on the 6100, for those of you who've had the phone for a few days? I was going to keep my 9900 but after a few days of usage, I'll have to go back to considering getting this phone...if the battery life proves to outdo the 9900, I'll definitely give it a try.
