HTC Explains What Sets the myTouch 3G Apart

Jul 8, 2009, 2:29 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Today HTC shared some previously unknown details about the forthcoming myTouch 3G. From a software standpoint, there are three things setting it apart from the standard Android platform. The first is the Sherpa application. Sherpa is an application for users to search for things that are nearby. It learns user preferences and includes location data to generate a profile for what to suggest depending on where users are and what they've searched for in the past. The myTouch 3G will also include the Apps Pack. The Apps Pack is essentially going to be an app or widget that features the newest, hottest, latest applications that are in the Android Market. It will constantly refresh and offer new suggestions to end users on what apps they might download. Last is the WorkEmail software. The myTouch will be endowed with an email client that only interfaces with Microsoft's Exchange servers. This means there will be three email clients on the myTouch 3G. One for Gmail, one for POP3/IMAP, and one for Exchange accounts. HTC indicated that these services may not be offered to the G1, which also runs Android.

T-Mobile Announces the myTouch 3G Android Phone

Jun 21, 2009, 11:00 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Today T-Mobile announced its second Android device from HTC, the myTouch 3G with Google. The myTouch is very similar in look and design to the HTC Magic Android phone, which was announced earlier this year. The myTouch's key features are its 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touch display with accelerometer, 3.2 megapixel camera with video capture, and deep integration with Google's services, such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube and Picasa. The myTouch 3G has quad-band GSM/EDGE as well as access to T-Mobile's 1700MHz 3G network and Wi-Fi. T-Mobile points out that the myTouch has some new software on board called Sherpa. Made by an outside vendor, this software will pay attention to the way the customer uses the device and the Android Market and adjust the phone's settings accordingly. The myTouch 3G will be available for pre-order on July 8 for $200 on contract. T-Mobile will begin to ship pre-ordered devices in late July, with general retail availability planned for early August.

HTC Magic Approved by FCC with 3G for T-Mobile USA

Mar 26, 2009, 11:48 PM   by Eric M. Zeman   updated Mar 26, 2009, 11:54 PM

Documents seen on the FCC web site reveal some information about a new HTC phone apparently bound for T-Mobile's network. The SAPP300 has been approved with 1700/2100MHz WCDMA, as well as quad-band GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Sapphire ("SAPP") was the internal codename used for the HTC Magic, which was announced in February at the Mobile World Congress trade show. The FCC has already approved the HTC Magic SAPP100, which includes 900/2100MHz WCDMA for use in Europe. This newer approval points to a release of a U.S. variant of the HTC Magic.
