Re: My long review

I usually keep my screen much dimmer inside as well. On the lowest setting, I can see it just fine inside. I do wish the HTC screen brightness widget had the same modes as the vanilla widget, in that it lets you select low-medium-high-auto brightness. The HTC widget is missing the auto setting. But it's no biggie. I'm already getting use to adjusting it easily since it's just a small widget, there's plenty of room on my home screen for it. I was messing with my phone a little while ago and I discovered something. Sort of an antenna-gate issue with this phone lol. I noticed if I held the phone up, without covering the bottom of the phone at all, the signal was pretty good, -78 dBm to -86 dBm. If I cover the bottom of the phone with my hand, or if I'm looking at the phone laying down and it's resting on my chest (thereby covering the bottom completely), after about 3 seconds, the signal drops to around -95 to -103. Move it away, and a few seconds later, the signal is good again. This is probably why I usually only see a crappy dBm level, as I am often holding it with one had at the bottom to text or navigate the screens. It kind of sucks because that's pretty much how I always hold the phone. Like I said, I haven't experienced any issue with a dropped call or data connection. Regardless, I am planning to go to a local Verizon store in town to look at their demo and compare the signal strength. If mine is pretty far off theirs, I will most likely be exchanging it for another. I've only made maybe 3 calls, so I don't have sufficient experience in that respect to say it won't be an issue. I text a lot more than talk. But I did notice a tremendously horrible signal in town, where the signal should have been excellent. I hadn't realized then, that covering the bottom of the phone was causing the signal to suffer (I'm sure it was being held in a way to cover the bottom or sitting in my lap the whole time), so the next trip into town will entail more experimentation with regard to how I hold the phone. I know what you mean about picking up the wrong end of the phone too. Several times, I have picked it up and pushed where I thought the power button was, not that you can tell since you can barely feel the button to begin with haha.

I'm not an HTC fan. I think they have always made crap and are just making better crap now. Samsung makes some quality stuff, but the Super AMOLED is theirs and aren't going to share it with anyone. HTC does have a pretty cool interface, but their devices are buggy and have horible battery life. LG makes quality devices, however, their specs tend to be behind everyone else. Motorola pushes the industry with high spec phones, but their tech is hit or miss. In the end, I go for Motorola first because I am the technophile and want the coolest phone with the best features. Second, I pick LG. Not the coolest, but reliable. Samsung is doing a lot of things right, so they are not out of the question. I'd put them second, but their specs aren't as good as Motorola and their dependablility is not as good as LG. HTC comes in last. While they are first out of the gate they finish last. UI is really all they have going for them. The Thunderbolt is already having headphone and battery issues.

wrong mine does all of this and more...I've got all my apps backed up in the market, all my address numbers backed up in the market...photo's sync'd with iSync and and music wirelessly. I used to be an apple fan, MAC PRO (G5), iPhone, iTV, MAC BOOK PRO...not until Jobs started getting ****y with his interviews, When asked about making the iPhone screen bigger, his response was.. an iPad" When that whole Antenna Gate for the iPHone came out and a customer emailed him about it... Duck Tape is too restricted with there DRM files and way to restricted in allowing you to take the music or vid's you bought and not being able to move them to another place...I bought 'em why should i have to pay yet again for them...HTC came out with that notification bar looong before "just a couple of months". Don't need an app for that. Already on the phone...and now with 3D phone's on 4G launching...still behind. 8O

Oi.....shareholders look beyond the pail of opinionatedness around the web and look at the numbers and insight from tech/financial analysts. When I had my blackberry, RIM was hot and many of my associates were eagerly awaiting the new OS6 devices and everything that was hyped to be coming down the pipeline. With the less than impressive Torch launch everything just went stagnant. I don't know a single person who owns a Playbook and it looks to have fallen flat right out of the gate. But hey...if you have that much faith in the once great RIM go ahead and pick up a few shares....they're 20% off now. http://www.canadianbusiness.com/article/30345--rim -stock-drops-more-than-20-per-cent-to-lowest-level -in-nearly-five-years

The Incident report he sent out because his phone was stolen. "I Was at the kiosk helping 3 members set up their new phones when my personal phone was stolen from the kiosk. There was a shady, suspicious character at the kiosk that my co-worker and costco employee had seen with a hat with an american flag and white headphones on with a flannel shirt. I had found out that my phone had been missing about 1-2 mins after it had been stolen. I called my phone multiple times but the third time it had gone to voicemail. I went up to the front and they had said that the person I just described went through the entrance gate on his way out. I contacted the front end managerson duty, Jamie and Galen and they said that there was nothing that they could do for me. I am very upset about my phone being stolen because with AT&T we get absolutely no discounts on the harware and i spent 450 dollars of my own money to purchase my samsung infuse this June. with our current promotion i was able to sell 6 samsung infuse the exact same day that my phone was stolen using my own phone as a sales tool. Also, I feel that my company should know that with the construction going on these last couple months our computers have been down for a total of 4 full days. On those days I managed to get out over 15 activations. You may ask yourself, how did you sell phones without a working computer or telephone? I managed to get these activations calling retail support lines from my smartphone. I came into my place of work feeling safe and that my personal equipment was not at risk. Equipment that i have used to make wireless avocates money. I havent had a phone since Friday now. There is no way for my co-workers, manager or district manager to reach me while i am not at work. This is to no fault of my own. I was taking a training today about the cellphone use policy that was just made and wanted to participate in the cellphone blast messages program but I cant because I don’t have a cellphone. because it was stolen at the kiosk. Im writing this inncident report to see what my company, costco, or AT&T can do to help me replace my old phone with a new phone. I would be so grateful and appriciatative to work for a company that takes care of there employees. You can reach me at the kiosk at ***-***-**** or my email is *********@gmail.com. Thank you."

I wouldn't call it corportate greed when the 4g phones that are out have horrible battery life. It's more like product quality and assurance why would apple want to be like everyone else and release a phone with crap battery life? Call it Greed all you want but at the end of the day this 4g thing still has a lot of bugs in it and just because it is fast that does not mean squat. Apple has had enough problems in the past with it's phones and I sure they don't want another problem like the antenna gate problem. But here is the difference Motorola,Samsung LG and HTC all have crap phones on the new verizon 4g network with very bad battery life but if apple has one problem people will cry all day long and make complaints ? My question is why does everyone stay so quiet on the others dropping the ball here and only complain about apple? Fanboys do not need to get involved. Only people with brains need to make any reply or contribute to this discussion.

AJ, I have another question if you don't mind. Back years ago, I heard of a process called "Beam Forming". A very calculating intensive technology used specifically to maximize the weaknesses of the higher frequencies such as, but not limited to, 2.5-2.6Ghz. To simplify this process, I believe there devices called Field Programmable Gate Arrays. I will avoid detailing this due to the fact that you are most likely already familiar with what I'm talking about. Here is my question. Is this technology being used today in the cellphone wireless industry and if not, do you think Sprint would utilize this in the event of using Clearwire's spectrum? I know the questions of building penetration and long range transmissions, seem to be the focus of many opponents of the higher frequency. I, however, admire the consistancy for what these frequencies are capable of delivering. I'm at technical loss here and feel you can clarify whether my question is prudent. John B.

LOL. I'm not sure but do I sense sarcasm ? Hey man, look. It's big of Nokia to offer this. They didn't have to, you know they didn't have to. I have never owned a Nokia phone in my entire life, but that doesn't matter. This is a new launch, just like a new launch of anything (new phone, new car, etc) there are always out-of-the-gate problems. In this case, with the Lumia 900, they are offering $100.00 to help fix the problem, which is totally acceptable. That is a high powered smartphone device. Back in the day I had a Pontiac Grand AM with the god awful quad-4 engine. One day my engine decided to dump it's coolant on the drive home and the block melted. Pontiac gave me a new Engine for $0.00 even though many of the components that were damaged / destroyed were NOT covered under warranty. It's about as much fault of Pontiac that my engine melted as it is Nokia's for this specific problem. It's ridiculous people get upset at this. You want the latest / Greatest ? Be prepared for inconsistencies and problems, we are humans, that's the way it is with new products. If you weren't being sarcastic, please ignore this entire post.

Keep in mind that this $100 rebate is on a phone selling for $99 with contract, so basically they are offering the phone free with contract, even if you haven't experienced any problems....it is insanely generous to offer a high end smartphone free with contract right out of the gate...and again it is being offered even to customers who have NOT experienced this problem....

There is no such thing as 'too late'
by T Bone    May 27, 2012, 10:12 AM
in the Article: RIM to Lay Off Another 2,000 Workers in Restructuring Bid forum

There is no such thing as being 'too late' to enter a market.... If there were, Toyota and Honda never would have been successful when they entered the US automobile market in the 1970's. If there was such a thing as 'too late' the Apple iPhone never could have been successful. If there was such a thing as 'too late' Microsoft Office never would have been successful, after all you already had WordPerfect, Lotus 1,2,3 and Dbase, who needed, Word, Excel or Access? If there was such a thing as 'too late', Windows never could have been successful, after all you already had the Mac, the Atari ST, the Commodore 64, the Amiga, the Apple II...who needed yet another operating system? The failure of webOS is not due to its being 'too late', remember that at its debut it was widely hyped, and the Pre quickly became Sprint's fastest selling phone debut ever.... The problem with the Pre was that Palm had decided to offer it as an exclusive on Sprint, which besides being too small a carrier was also a CDMA carrier, limiting its international appeal, and that the hardware was crappy. If they had launched on at&t the phone would have been more successful. The Pre sold something like 800,000 units in its first weekend, which was very respectable, the problem wasn't that it was too late. The problem was that the hardware was really bad, extremely shoddy, customers had to exchange their phones for warranty 5-6 times in the first 3-4 months of purchase due to hardware defects, and webOS 1.0 was very buggy and had lots of problems. webOS didn't become the awesome OS it is until 2.0, which arrived nearly a year later. What killed the Pre was the bad word of mouth that immediately erupted when people bought the phone. If the Pre had been a better product and had launched on a btter network, Palm would probably still be around. It was poor quality out of the gate that killed the Pre, not 'being too late'.

You are sounding pretty pious there, yourself, Vmac. YOU were the first one to throw an opinionated barb, by saying that this is a complete FAIL (the emphasis on FAIL was YOURS). YOU came out of the gate with a smug, know-it all attitude. So don't get your back up when someone else calls you out for your own personal blend of ignorance and arrogance. You are complicit, and you will reap what you sow. Here are the facts: 1) Neither Verizon's nor ATT's PTT services can hold a candle to Nextel's, thus there was not a high uptake rate with those two carriers. They do not perform well, so people didn't like susing them and word got around they were nothing compared to Nextel. Thus, hardly any VZ or ATT PTT users. 2) Sprint's totally botched, heavy-handed approach to Nextel is what killed Nextel (and thus PTT in general) in its tracks. 3) The vast majority of people who have actually used a high-performance PTT system (i.e. Nextel) for any length of time soon realize that for a significant percentage of person-to-person communications, it is THE best tool there is. Faster, safer, more efficient. Not for the majority of communications, but it can easily be 20%, which is absolutely significant. Unless you yourself have actually used Nextel for at least a few months, you have absolutely no ground on which to stand when you throw out statements like your initial posting pronouncing PTT a "FAIL". You certainly can express an opinion, but it is riduculous for you to pronounce an entire technology/application/service a "FAIL" if you have no actual knowledge & experience with it. THAT was your mistake.
