Clarification: CDMA vs GSM

I have my eye on LG's new VX10000 (Voyager) phone, but noticed that it's CDMA (800/1900 MHz). I'm currently with Rogers which uses GSM (1900 MHz). I'm wondering if this means that I can use the LG Voyager on Rogers since the phone is 1900 MHz and Rogers uses 1900 MHz although it's GSM and the phone is CDMA.

...I hope that made sense.

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian oil-field worker, stunned to get a C$85,000 ($83,700) cell phone bill, has had the charges reduced to C$3,400, but is still fighting them.

Piotr Staniaszek, a 22-year-old oil and gas well tester in rural northwest Alberta, became a figure of international media attention this week when his father went to the press to complain about the size of his son's bill.

Staniaszek's father, also named Piotr Staniaszek, said his son thought he could use his new phone as a modem for his computer as part of his C$10 unlimited browser plan from Bell Mobility, a division of Bell Canada.

Primus Canada resorts to unscrupulous bill collecting causing disruption of service.

Primus Canada resorts to unscrupulous bill collecting causing disruption of service to a 75 year old Toronto man.

Over the weekend internet cell and home phone services were disconnected, after my father returned to Toronto after under going major surgery in the Dominican Republic. This disruption in service came after an agent of Primus Canada, contacted my father, explaining he needed to pay *immediately* a $600 phone bill due to roaming charges incurred while he and my brother were in the Dominican Republic last week.

My father, calmly explained to the agent on the phone that he refuses to pay the bill until he received his statement in the mail, after which he would pay the bill in FULL. The agent refused and threatened to cut all ...

Primus canada....don't use it! avoid it like the plague!!!!!

Well, where do i begin.
I signed up for unlimited calls in north America late august 07, well i thought i signed up for that. I then made lots of calls to the U.S. thinking I was under that plan. By early October 07, I called to see where my bill was cause i haven't received it. they said it would be mailed shortly. I then asked how much my bill was and they said almost $50. I said excuse me, but the service only costs $29.95 tax. They told me I was signed up under unlimited canadian calls and I was being charged for all the calls to the U.S. I was PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They then mentioned something about there broadband service and i looked into it and called them back and thought, if i sign up for that, i will save the diff...

Which would you buy?

Hey All,

I am in Atlantic Canada and have been with rogers for a long time and have hated them every single day-but I loved my motorola v60. Their GSM network does not work where I go, so I need to move to Aliant as they seem to have much better coverage for where I go.

I am looking at these phones:

SAMSUNG SPH-a680
BLACKBERRY 7250
Palm Treo 600

I have read really bad things about the treo...

If you had to choose, which one would you pick and why?

Would they all have the same coverage in Atlantic Canada and/or the rest of Canada?

I got burned by Rogers with coverage and don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Thanks

Short Codes & iPhone & Fido = no

I have an unlocked iphone on Fido. Everything works fine, but I don't received voicemail smss. Actually I don't receive any SMSs from Fido (they tried sending me one when I called in to investigate).

It looks like my iphone can't receive short code SMSs of any kind.

Blackberry use in rural areas

I'm doing some research in upgrading my cell phone. I travel for work, but travel in farming/rural communities. I've found my nokia works well and has in the past. However, I've been looking at a Blackberry 8830. My server is Bell and they have been excellent. Other people I know who use any other server have less range in the country locations than I do.

So, I just need some input as to the range this phone has--can I keep phone calls in the country? Will it cut out? Thanks for your help.

Please feel free to contact me via my email.
