Cingular v. T-Mobile network

I have been a T-Mobile customer for a little over 1 year. Service has been fairly good for the most part and my rate plan is great...$99.00 for 5000 anytime, anywhere minutes, no roaming charges or LD. Cingular also has some great new plans, which I could piggyback my wife's phone to and expense both off for work, saving me $$$. The question is, how does the Cingular GSM network compare to the T-Mobile network? Some Cingular rep at a mall Kiosk tried to tell me the Cingular GSM network wa smuch larger than the T-Mobile network, but I was very skeptical. I am based in Atlanta, and travel all over the east coast for business and out west (i.e Vegas) 3-4 times per year. My only complaints with T-Mobile have been poor reception near the beach...

Text Messaging Issue

I was wondering if anyone else has a problem text messaging certain numbers with Cingular. I have a V400 phone and I was trying to text my friend who has a T-Mobile phone with a 347 area code (NYC). I keep getting a message that says "Unidentified Number...etc". I know it's the right number because he can text me and we have no problem calling each other. It's just the outgoing texts on my end. I can also text him with no problem from my AT&T phone...any ideas??

Siemens A56i

Hey everyone. I had a visitor the other day, and she was from Siemens. She was giving us the specs for the revised A56i, and it will have PTT compatibility when its rolled out by Cingular. We are expecting the A56i in our market at the beginning of February. It will keep the revised look of the A56 though.

SCAM

MAJOR SCAM:
Don't respond to Emails, phone calls, or web pages which tell you to call
an "809" area Phone Number.

This is a very important issue of Scam Busters because it alerts you to a
scam that is spreading *extremely* quickly, can easily cost you $2400 or
more, and is difficult to avoid unless you are aware of it.

We'd like to thank Verizon for bringing this scam to our attention.

This scam has also been identified by the National Fraud Information
Center and is costing victims a lots of money.

There are lot of different permutations of this scam.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

You will receive a message on your answering machine or your pager, which
asks you to call a number beginning with area cod...

Cingular users Moto V600 is Comming :)

I was in a Cingular store today trying to get a deal on 3 phone family plan ( My family all still have the Nokia 8260's) anyway I wanted to get the v400 it went down to $99 with rebate. I overheard him say to another cust. About the Bluetooth in the v600 so I ask him if they where going to be receiving them & he said in mid March; supposedly. By the way he said to call cust service directly to get the best deal & then I could pick up the phones their. Cool Guy. 🤣 By the way this was in South FLA

? about GSM/TDMA selection - 6340i field test

Greetings,

A bit of background - I live in the boonies in NW Virginia, a spotty area for Cingular coverage. I had minor problems with quality and a 5165 phone, so upgraded to 6340i and GAIT. Fortunately I live on the SE side of a mountain with sufficient elevation to give me signal strength in the high 80s while at home.

I've been observing while in field test mode (after doing a lot of research) various network selection characteristics, and have questions.

Nokia 6340i, v 8.05.3

With CELL BARR ACCEPTED 0101 displays GSM characteristics indicating that I am using GSM. 2101 always displays ACCH when GSM is active, DCCH not available.

With CELL BAR DISCARD either can happen - GSM or CAMPING on DCCH.

With CELL BAR REVERSE i...

Cingular World Phones are unlocked?

Someone was telling me that as a pratice, Cingular doesn't lock their world phones. Is this true?

I also have heard from people that sometimes it is hit-or-miss. If you are lucky, you may get a phone that is unlocked from Cingular. But their next batch of phones can be locked.

Not sure if someone who works in Cingular can confirm that. Thanks.

Deal on Cingular.com!!!

Anybody else notice this? just wondering if it was a typo on their part...kind of makes me wish I'd waited to renew my contract...

Under rate plans, package deals, the second offer is for a free 3595 (nothing special) but for the GSM Nation 850 package for only $39.99 a month! I contracted in @ the previous 500 for $39.99, expecting it to drop, which it did, to 450 min under their new prices (though with 1000 mobile to mobile- of course, i don't know many people I call regularly on cingular, so I opted for the 500 rollover min) I think it's just a typo, as it's the same price for the 450 or 850 deal they have there, and with the x427 phone it's phone for $49.99, and both the 450 and 850 plans are $59.99. If anyone's looking to get a deal,...

Treo 600 availability from Cingular

Cingular did a press release last October on the Treo 600, but yet 3 months later, I cannot find it as one of their available phones/PDAs on their Web site. (I'm in the Boston area.)

Any info on either why it's not being offered, or whether it's possible to purchase it elsewhere and get service from Cingular in the Boston area?

Thanks.
