Notice how it's "Best Buy Mobile", not "Best Buy Phones"

They've been planning to sell things that allow you to be wireless. So, MP3 players, laptops with those lovely wireless cards, USB cables for cell phones for tethering, anything to get you away and disconnected.

That's my understanding of those stores models.

Yeah, we sell the MP3 and aircards, but my store doesn't have laptops. Some stores do. Most BBM Stores though can sell anything the big stores can sell and we have it shipped with no shipping costs to your home.

That's good that shipping is free to a customers address, because Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25. Amazon is much, much cheaper than Best Buy when it comes to Blu-Rays. Of my entire Blu-Ray collection I haven't bought one single Blu-Ray at a local retailer, all of them either ebay or amazon.

Sounds about right. Haven't bought any DVD's from Best Buy ever. The discount sucks on them. All Amazon or Ebay here as well.

The benefit of Amazon is no taxes & free shipping.

I think this BBM thing @ malls is a good idea, and I like it because BBM sells unlocked phones, and often times unlocked phones are better than what the carriers offer. And I think consumers should know what is out there beyond the phones that carriers off!

Buying on Amazon: Go ahead. Most of America still shops in actual stores, Captain Exception.

Most of America are bad consumers that pay too much for most things they buy.
There's a $10 difference in price on Blu-Ray's that I buy on Amazon and what Best Buy charges. I'm a much better consumer than most people.
I paid $30 less for all 4 Die Hard's on Blu-Ray on ebay than what Best Buy charges, and yes it was brand new.

Like I said, you're Captain Exception.

If you haven't realized why Best Buy charges more, it's because they have actual physical stores everywhere, janitors to pay, employees to pay, rent to pay, shipping to pay......in the end it helps provide America with more jobs.

This isn't "evil" of Best Buy. In the end, they probably make about the same amount of profit as Amazon.com. Amazon isn't for everyone, like those that are worried about fraud, or not getting an item they ordered.

Also, when you buy at Best Buy, you get the item TODAY. Not, 3-5 days from now.

You know, this business model sounds a lot like a traditional Radio Shack store, without the electronic parts and batteries.

It's copying what worked. Carphone Warehouse worked in the UK, Radio Shack worked for awhile in the US. You mimic what works best and make it work better.

Its a good model. I know that when I worked at Radio Shack, they were emphasizing cell phones over everything else. Then they bought the Sam's Club kiosks after I left the company, which offered more choice than the RS stores themselves, and oddly enough turned out to be a good investment. I never understood that, I wouldn't think people will be clamoring to Sam's Club to get cell service.

I think the important thing here is execution. If BBM can set up stores in the right locations and advertise the heck out of the stores, they will do well. I wonder what providers you all offer.

Best Buy Mobile provides all carriers, in most locations. I know in my location, we signed a contract with Verizon disallowing us to have more than two other carriers.

BBMobile will have very successful stand alones. Radioshack has commissioned A-Holes working. At least BBM isn't commissioned.

😕 I'd rather buy from a place with knowledgable reps..... Comission helps a lot... I went into a BB to ask about unlocked phones for use on at&t, and was pointed to a vzw branded 8830... So I would rather talk to someone that has an incentive to know what they're doing. Ratshacks have their share of idiots, but thats with every place I secret shop.

i got a 97.4 on my last secret shop.

at least with Best Buy, they PAID to fly me out to seattle, and paid for a week of training plus food/hotel/transportation while taking their all day classes.

some people, however, are morons and point to verizon phones when you asked for unlocked.

however, I happen to have actually played with the Nokia E71 that we sell unlocked for around $450, and it's a GREAT phone.

Sorry you got a moron working at your store. Cell phones are a hard market to find good help in.

As a former RS employee, I can attest that some people I worked for were really @$$e$. However, commissioned employees have a more incentive to learn all about products, whereas regular hourly employees don't seem to care. I went to my local Best Buy one time in regards to high speed internet. I couldn't get any help cuz every other employee was busy restocking.

Sam's Club Kiosks do a lot more business than people think. We have a constant flow of people and we are usually open later than most of the retail stores. We also offer a better price than most places. It's a convenience thing to, you can get your tires rotated, pick up your groceries and get your phone upgraded all at the same price.

open later than most, but best buy is open an extra 30 mins everyday, then on the weekends we usually close around 10. Holidays turns into 11 or 12.

and we're non commissioned.

and cheap.

and I used to work for Sams and that company is really good with screwing over employees.

I don't work for Sams Club. I work for Radioshack. We also have the ability to open a lot earlier than any place in town because Sams actually opens at like 7 AM, we just don't because there isn't much business at that time. Best Buy isn't cheaper than our store anyways at least not the one in Fargo ND. We are also open later during the holidays and we open earlier on Saturday. The only reason we don't open earlier on Sunday is because of the North Dakota Blue Law that states that we can't open until 12.

I'm sorry, I meant Radioshack. Let's not get caught up on a technical.

Plus, customers enjoy sitting down when getting a phone.

I like the fact that its a non-commission store.
As a customer I always feel I'm going to get sold whatever product or service that will make the salesperson the most commission.
I do recognize that I will pay slightly higher prices at a store like BBM because they are non-commission but that is acceptable to me. I just feel more comfortable dealing with a non-commissioned salesperson.
I hope they can attract some good geeks that know unlocked phones.

The couple of places i have worked for pay a commission based on the plan they sell not the phone, and its usually not that much more. Right now i work for a verizon agent and we get paid decently on our plans but only if you buy, its a COMMISSION ONLY position so i convince you to buy from me based on the personal service you will get from me. I only make money if you buy inside my store so i don't push any plan that makes me more money because you could just go somewhere else.

On the flip side to that, since they do not make commission, a person wouldn't care what phone you want or plan you get. You go back to that store, the usual response is, "You have to go to (provider's) corporate store for help." They will not take the time to right fit you with the right phone and plan. They will not troubleshoot your phone, answer billing questions, or help with warranty/insurance claims. More importantly, they will not try to keep your business and won't care if you cancel service. They are pros and cons with dealing with commission and non commission people.

thats not true i work for a sprint dealer and i give everyone the same service i would expect regardless to if im comissioned or not. I am comission but if that phones not gonna work for what u need it for ill sell u a phone thats best suited for ur needs. A good sales person will always do this regardless if hes comission or not, not based on the money hell make off the customer because if u give someone awesome service their gonna tell all their friends what an awesome job u did for them and send them all to u

However what is the point if you do all the work and get paid the same hourly rate. One hour my store haad no customers and got paid $X.XX for that hour. The next hour my store sells 5 phones and still get paid $X.XX for that hour. There is no incentive for me to work hard then. I get paid the same regardless. Why would I care if you cancel, I still get paid the same $X.XX for the hour.

I'm not trying to argue with you, however your example is weak because you DO work on commission so you highlighted my previous examples and you know if your customers are not happy, they will cancel and you get chargebacks.

A salesperson is that. He/She SELLS and makes money based on what your customer buys.

IDK what "commission stores" you have been to lately, but I have been in this business for a few years, working commission only, and you just described the EXACT OPPOSITE of me and my co-workers. I work in a privately-owned Verizon Indirect Agent store and we do it all. We work commission only, and when it comes to selling, we do usually get paid any more depending on what we sell. On an upgrade, no matter if you get the DARE or the Moto W315, we get paid out the same. This is also true on new acts. The only thing that we get paid more money for is data. If a customer doesnt want it, we dont shove it down their throats. We inform them they can change at any time, and leave it at that. We also do not get paid out extra for insurance. As for c...
