I did make my own, but I sent it thru a text (just ordered MPT). Is that my problem? It was locked when texted?

I just switched from Cingular/AT&T to Verizon. Sooo much better in my area. I had more bars in more places with Cingular... but phone said "SEARCHING FOR NETWORK" at the same time. Now we have one phone (v551) that still remains Cingular/AT&T and I tried to bluetooth my favorite ringtone to my new phone. No go. Says it found me (v385), but then v551 just goes dead. Are you saying Cingular doesn't lock out Verizon bluetooth? Then what gives?

Thanks, Talldog. I ordered yesterday. Hope you don't mind a related question. When I use MPT, will my ringtones be locked? I have been making ringtones and texting them to myself using fun4mobile, but my ringtones come across locked and I can't bluetooth them to my sons. Will MPT get around that?

That's what I read from other internet posts, so I went to Motorolla to purchase it. However, Motorolla said I needed MPT v4.5.1 and when you purchase it, it just says V4. How do I know I'm getting v4.5.1?

I have a ton of phone numbers in my old phone (on SIMM card). Verizon said I had no way to transfer them to my W385. Is this really true? Is there no software that can take my phone numbers from one phone and send them to my W385?

I don't know if they CAN track the calls, but after the responses I got I asked again if dropped calls were trackable. I was told that they record how long a call was connected and base dropped calls on that (whatever that means). Fact is, my phone will show all bars and still drop a call or say it's waiting to connect to the network. As for you, nyz, if you think as a consumer I should not ask ...

Sorry... didn't realize that using a character cut off my message. My menu after CONNECTION: 1. World Phone 1. America 2. Europe 2. GPRS Attach 1. Power On 2. When Needed 3. Network Profile 4. Reset Network I did the reset both here and at the master reset but nothing changed. Yes, I selected America, and Power On, and verified that all the settings under Network Profile matched Cingular. I don't have anything under DNS ...

No. I don't know how, but if I did then wouldn't I lose all those settings for Cingular?

My SIM card is for Cingular. I've been using it in my other phone. The only thing I can figure is that this new (but used) phone doesn't have that menu option Settings-Connection-Network Selection. Where Cingular shows Network Selection as the first option, mine says Worldphone. I can only select the GSM and nothing more.

I was getting the message "SERVICE UNAVAILABLE" and so I went to Cingular's site for help with phones. It said there should be an option on the menu to select the network, but where their instructions say Network, my phone says Worldphone instead. I was told my phone was a Cingular locked phone when I bought it, but CINGULAR doesn't show up on the front screen. Is there anything I can do to get this phone hooked up with Cingular? ...

User friendly Phone Tools?

I need some help finding a free phone tool program to load flex/flash into my Motorola V400 phone. I purchased a data cable that was supposed to come with a CD of software, but I can't make heads or tales of it. I downloaded a package called SP25703, but it was in Swedish so I deleted it. Can someone help me? I just want a program that I can understand enough to download flex/flash into my phone. I already ...

You got me, Mr. Crinkles. You're absolutely right. If I prefer to throw away the phone and not use it for the remaining 6 months, I will save a whopping $113... although I thought in KY it was $240.

We started out with two lines because we use cell phones for home lines and I have teenage boys who are on the go. My husband moved to KY 3 months ahead of the rest of the family. His v551 work phone was with Cingular and he got great reception, so we thought we DID check out Cingular AND the phone. If a hospital can rely on Cingular and a v551, certainly we can. We added another line ...

lol... no, but I'm really wishing I had not cancelled that insurance plan. Those replacements are on our dime and the RAZR was only 3 months old. Thank goodness it still works (sort of). For anyone who takes a phone swimming, there are some tricks to improve the chance that it will work again: Don't turn it on and remove the battery as quickly as you can. Remove the SIM card and put it in a safe place for later. Remove any other ...

No, all of my phones (Sony Ericson and V551s) were replacements to solve the problem of bad reception and constant dropped calls. Although I also had the problem of not being able to hear on the Sony Ericson. It was supposed to be new, but it sure didn't work like it was. After the last replacement, I did get ahold of a tech person who seemed to know more than the others. He said I was connected to ...

I must have REALLY bad luck, because I started out with a Sony Ericson... traded it in (within 30 days) for a V551, and then added my son's phones. My V551 has been replaced 3 more times. My middle son dropped his V180 in the toilet and we temporarily replaced it with a T725, and then later with another V180 (or is it a V220 now?). My other son joined the plan 6 months ago with a ...

I started my plan with a Sony Ericson (that one with the Star Wars stuff on it) and returned it within the 30 days because of bad reception. I switched it out for a V551 then. So no, my problem isn't with Motorola. But you are a good example of the type of technical support I've been dealing with for the past year.

I'll call again, but I never get anywhere with them. The strange thing is that even though I cycle my phone daily, some days I have a different voicemail setup than other times. I know this because some days I press 7 to delete the msg, and other days I press 3. I have to listen to the instructions every time.

Madisonville, KY (about 45 minutes from Evansville, IN). Another forum told me my dropped calls were likely bad SIMMS cards, and I'm starting to think they're right. Since I can't convince support of that, I'm living with it until I can switch to Verizon.

None of your explanations apply to me. I'm sitting in my house where my husband is also talking on a V551. Suddenly, the call is dropped. I haven't moved and the person on the other end claims they rarely have trouble with their carrier. I get fed up and call Cingular to ask how many dropped calls we have to endure before getting a refund. I'm told by Support that they have no way to go back and see when ...

Maybe you were slapped around a bit too much, Beachslapped. I have 3 cell phones on my talk plan... a RAZR, a V551, and a V220 (or is it a V180?). I also have a V400 that I swap out SIMM cards on when one of the kid's phones aren't charged. Have dropped calls with all of them.

dropped calls with Cingular

How can Cingular claim fewer dropped calls when they don't track dropped calls? I drop calls all the time, and so do my friends in KY and OH. When I called Cingular to find out why my dropped calls don't show on the bill as dropped (and there IS a code), they told me they don't track dropped calls. Hmmm. Is that why they say an independent research firm rated them? Did they just fail to mention to ...

Nick, I am also a newbie. I bought the phone new but it doesn't get the bars my "now waterlogged" V551 used to get. I assume it needs a firmware update or something? Can you explain how to get the update and where to get the cord to connect to a PC? Kathi PS. Yes, my V440 is unlocked and SIMM card was in place.
