If the customer passes the credit check with flying colors they can add it same day if not they have to wait 90 days and have good payment history during that time. ie no non-pay suspensions or disconnects

well i usually buy the higher end phones, not PDA's though, last time i went to a cingular store to test services i was told they didn't have any active test units, this is in NYC (queens). Right then and there I was turned off to Cingular, The rep told me I could try service for 30 days and then cancel if i didn't like it, search my past posts for more info on this. Regardless the point I was trying to make is that don't be happy because of a commercial which says you can use your service in other countries when you probably will never or if you do have limited need outside the USA. One last thing, wouldn't the charges in foreign counties be very excessive? I never researched it but I would imagine they would be.

From what I remember the initial connection speed was like 10 seconds and the latency from person talking to the time person heard them was about 1 to 3 seconds, that is nowhere as fast as a nextel, again now that i have a 2 year contract and I paid a termination fee to leave verizon, i have no plan to pay another term fee, If everything qualcomm is saying is true Qchat will be faster than iden, initial connection will be possibly a little slower from what I read Nextel is .92 of a second (not sure of this number it might be less I read it somewhere 2 weeks ago) and Qhat is under a second, is there a difference there? Qchat is supposed to be faster in the latency from the time person talks to the person on the other end hearing them and that...

Cingular's PTT is faster in-call with lower latency than iDen. It's reasonable to believe when you understand that Cingular's PTT platform is essentially a half-duplex voice call.

surprised no one else has brought this up.....Sprint wont compare apples to apples......they compare our edge network to their EV-DO, where as the UMTS(HSDPA) would be the appropriate comparison, the UMTS is currently slightly faster, and will be upgraded twice this year, first doubling the current speed, then quad.. from the current download speeds....that not heading into the 2008 expectations.....and it seems like in the near future(2009) EDGE will have a software upgrade available which will provide pretty much a blanket of broadband coverage over the country and throughout the world...

well i know yuou say you don't care but your bringing it up....sprint is not faster, they have never and will never say they are faster than cingular, sprint says they're faster than cingy's edge network, not faster than their 3G network....

Wimax is great will take a long time to get it deployed, cingy should have HSPA+ in '08 which will yield 28Mbps down and 11 Mbps up.....how much more speed will you need come that time, and will also offer broadband overage pretty much anywhere in the country where as sprint will only be in major cities.

I will say it again I dont care about the speed issue , my point was the premise of this we work in more countries is pretty much a non issue for most americans. Also if what i read was wrong or I didn't understand it properly I appologize, what is faster anyhow wimax or HSPA? also as I said as technology gets better these will probably be considered slow in a couple of years.

HSPA+ yields 28 Mbps, Wimax has a theoritical speed of i believe 60-70, from what i've read you'll prob experience around 30 Mbps....Wimax will be faster, but will take quite a while they try and work out the system, they are leading the way in this technology so they'll prob encounter numerous problems while deploying it....HSPA+ will be available next year for cingy to deploy, it's basically an add-on to existing systems,

I disagree. Sprint's commercials were aimed at business users. Cingular's response was aimed at business users. For many business users, international connectivity is genuine concern. For the standard user, who buys a RAZR b/c they saw so and so on tv with one, no, their phone working overseas does nothing for them. But a higher percentage of people who purchase aircards do so for business reasons, and for many of them, international travel is common.

Off the subject, but my favorite commercial is still the Verizon commercial with the hitmen telling the guy he was supposed to come alone.... something about that commercial cracks me up everytime I see it.

Well for one, Cingular doesnt disable Bluetooth file transfers. If you geta bluetooth phone, you can make your own ringtone & transfer them to your phone (provided you have a bluetooth adapter for your pc). Second, the handsets are WAY cooler. GSM phones in general are better designed. Verizon limits their handset & seems to lag behind the competition sometimes. And Verizon like to nickel & dime you to death. Cingular does it too, as well as other carriers, but not nearly as bad as VZW. Plus, I have heard & seen that Cingular is just better. My friends sometimes have issues, where I dont.

Ah, the nickels... how we love them.

I'd check the local area, because honestly we suck in some areas. Not every company is great everywhere. I've always been on GSM phones. I had T-mo back in the day, then switched to Cingy. My friends were on Sprint and Verizon, because they were older and what was around here back in the day. Over time, they all switched to Cingy (except for the one that works for Verizon and only pays $20 a month for 2 phone lines, but he's the cheapest guy I know).

I'm most excited about uVerse services. This wireless world is getting more and more connected.

Now we have one phone (v551) that still remains Cingular/AT&T and I tried to bluetooth my favorite ringtone to my new phone. No go. Says it found me (v385), but then v551 just goes dead. Are you saying Cingular doesn't lock out Verizon bluetooth? Then what gives?

I've never heard data use anywhere in the states or internationally. When I used a modem it made those annoying beeps, and my fax machine does that too. I think the frequency that wireless signals use is outside of our ability to hear with the human ear though. Maybe with a really sensitive microphone or one attuned to that MHz range, you could hear it though.

Best of luck.
