Quite a few, actually -- it's a way to easily have perfect and unlimited service in your house, for one thing. For another, it means that anyone who uses a ton of daytime minutes (lawyers, salespeople, contractors) can stop for lunch in or near a Starbucks and return calls without burning minutes. And if pricing holds to what's been discussed in articles about it, you could add an unlimited cell line for $15 to a family plan. That's tons ...

T-Mobile's new manual contracts have a spot for customers to initial that they accept or decline equipment protection. I wish they'd add it to the regular contracts as well.

Yeah, that's why T-Mo has their 5t straight JD Power & Associates for "Most Satisfied Customers." 'Cause they're awful. I'm not really interested in getting into "this vs. that rox or sux." There's a reason I don't comment here all that much -- because a "uh, you left out someone in your main article" comment immediately gets swamped with "my company rox, other companies suxor."

T-Mobile has offered unlimited messaging for $14.99 over a year at this point; not only that, they've got unlimited messaging for an entire family plan for as much as AT&T charges for a single line. FT messaging (all lines on a family plan get unlimited messaging) launched on T-Mobile in February 2006.

That's actually incorrect. If you'll read the ruling and the articles about it more carefully, you'll find that carriers are still allowed to lock phones all they want. They are not obligated to leave phones unlocked or provide unlock codes when requested. What the ruling does do is makes it (or confirms it as) not illegal for people to attempt to unlock phones on their own.

If you cancel through customer care within thirty days and don't return the phone, you are generally responsible for the full retail price of the phone; if you don't return the phone, they bill you for that difference.

Unlimited web, text and email for $30 a month, and no need for a voice plan you may or may not use. You can also get a voice-barred version if you're profoundly deaf (or just don't want the hassle of people calling your data-only line).

Um. Not everyone who wears a hearing aid is a senior citizen. Not even close. 8O I'd imagine the point of these phones is offering something that appeals to hard-of-hearing people who are not senior citizens, rather than condemning them to an "old person's phone." I mean, look at the lock on the hard-of-hearing market that T-Mobile has with the Sidekick. Again, not everyone who carries one of those who's hard of hearing is profoundly deaf.

Funny thing is, according to the same company that supposedly rated Cingular with the fewest dropped calls, T-Mobile was #1 in fewest dropped calls in 28 of the 57 tested markets. Add to that the J.D. Power & Assoc. #1 in Call Quality in 4 out of 6 markets (#2 in the other 2), and I have to say: it's awesome that T-Mobile is bidding for more spectrum. It can only get better for the customers who are already ...

Well aware -- still, there are ETFS Cingular charges that are over $200, and they charge an upgrade fee as well. As I said before -- I used to work for Cingular. I know the song and dance. I still believe their practices are unethical. :)

T-Mobile's ETF is $200 -- so they don't charge upgrade fees, and those who stay with them don't get penalized for those who leave. Hell, Cingular's ETF in some places is over $200 and they still charge upgrade fees. I remain unconvinced.

It's actually pretty damn reliable. When I use the map tool, I set accurate expectations. When I don't... I'm more likely to get a chargeback. And as far as bringing in more revenue? How about... I dunno. Selling products & services? I know that's a radical idea as opposed to charging random fees.

And I end up responding to the wrong one of your posts. Heh. Actually -- T-Mobile tied with or beat VZW in coverage & call quality in a whole slew of major markets. (Check the JD Powers reports.) See, hon, that's kind of my point. T-Mobile has their street-level coverage ON THE FRONT PAGE of their site, where it can be easily found by anyone, & no one had those kind of maps publicly accessible before T-Mobile did. Even now, when they are, they're buried deep enough that the average consumer won't find them. Thank you for proving my point again and again. Good night!

All I can find on the front page of the website & the front page of their business site are the printouts from their brochures. Verizon's coverage map offers zip-code level coverage maps, not street-level. Ditto Cingular. T-Mobile allows you to pinpoint any postal street address in the US, which, sorry, those maps don't do. Not only that, VZW and Cingular's consumer-facing maps only show you a blanket of coverage, they don't show you ACTUAL coverage, which anyone who is any level of truthful about cellular coverage will know varies. Nice try, but no -- they're not the same or as honest and helpful to ...

Relatively new? No. T-Mobile is a branding/buy-out of Western Wireless & Voicestream, and has existed since 2001 as the T-Mobile USA brand (VZW, and Cingular, comparatively, have existed as brands since 2000). Voicestream, which Deutsche Telekom -- hardly a newbie in the telecommunications business -- purchased, has been around at least long enough that some of my co-workers have been working for the company in one form or another for nine+ years. T-Mobile has made a conscious decision not to ...

The upgrade fee is an unnecessary fee that Cingular charges because it can. Whatever anyone else on here tells you, it's not a necessary fee and not every company charges it. All it requires to upgrade is a quick scan-in of the phone, changing your contract's end-date in the computer and the paper to print your upgrade receipt. Anyone who believes that is worth $18 is insane. If you don't want to pay upgrade fees, try the company that has ...

Let me say this again really slowly, because you seem to not be getting it: Exclusive. Contract. T-Mobile has a Exclusive Contract with Danger for the Sidekick. No, VZW and Sprint will NOT be getting it anytime soon, because it is... one more time... T-Mobile's EXCLUSIVE DEVICE. SunCom has it, but they're not a nationwide carrier. I had a Treo, I sold it so I could get a phone that has a comfortable keyboard, does what I want reliably, and does't cost me an arm and a leg for data, aka the Sidekick. I've tried every data device out there for GSM, and there is not one other keyboard that works as well as a SK. So you keep your Treo, I'll keep my Sidekick, and everyone's happy.

Also, do you not understand the concept of an "exclusive contract?" You're adorable, but you're wrong. T-Mobile has an exclusive national carrier contract with Danger -- VZW and Sprint aren't getting the SK3. :)

That doesn't even make any sense. How can you not get GPRS speeds? GPRS just means "mobile internet." Further, GSM is not CDMA, more users doesn't appreciably slow data.

No, it's a major change. :) The OS upgrade that was sent OTA to SK users six months ago was a pretty major upgrade, too, but this is a heeell of a lot more. The SK OS, too, is much more stable than Windows Mobile, IME.
