Well said,
"California has decided to legislate what the -yada yada yada------won't do voluntarily"
This phrase is what troubles me most about California legislatures. Its said over and over and over again with various topics ranging from eggs, to firearms, to air quality, to alternative energy...you name it.
To me this seems to be more of a federal than a state issue, but California never sees it this way. This one party legislature sees themselves as the only ones that know best ...
Re: Very nice update!
The real shocker is Verizon who I am with released it earlier than anyone thought. They are usually dead last with releasing updates!
The Z10 is first with others to follow in February from what I understand. It was in Blackberry Link first in my case, but it failed to install several times completely. Had to wait overnight for it to show up OTA. Lots of improvements
Very nice update!
Well for the 3% of us (not my figures, they were given by the experts in another thread) that are downloading and installing it at the moment ....
You can read the other thread if you want to be entertained by the usual "I don't know why they just don't give up!" and constant quibbling over who's OS is superior and in what country. Yea, whatever...
So for an update, there is some serious usability added to a decent ...

Cool! I am debating my next phone as a windows phone because I can have each inbox separately on the home screen like the storm and storm 2 could do. Is there a way I can get separate inboxes on z30 home screen?
BB10 in general works a little bit different. Instead of separate inboxes showing up as icons on a home screen, they have moved all of it to a central location called the "Hub". Very convenient once ...

When will Blackberry give up?
Public companies can't simply do that just because you think they should
Why doesn't Kmart give up? or Sears? Or McDonalds because they don't pay $15 an hour like some want?
We can get political too I suppose...lol
Why doesn't Obama give up? Why not the Republicans too? Why doesn't Santa give up?
Discussions of Blackberry just giving up is fruitless
Re: How disappointing
Their basically doing this to squeeze every millimeter of space they can. Maybe it cuts down on production costs too. Who knows. Whatever the case, like you said its a hassle when it goes.
We have a couple of Apple laptops around here with the internal batteries that are getting older. They are facing a $200 replacement cost vs. almost half that for the removable type. Big hassle. Don't like the trend but I am sure its only going to ...

Blackberry is riding on the non-removable battery bandwagon now? The complaints are already piling up against again other manufacturers pulling this ****. I don't see them in business much longer if the demand for removable batteries grows in full force.
Somehow Apple made a go of it though with just about anything portable it sells...
No big deal for many, a huge deal for some. I personally don't like having the option taken away from me.
Good!
I was hoping that they would take this company private rather than sell it off in pieces. A private equity firm may still do that though. The price per share seems a bit low. Despite what many people think, Blackberry does hold value in terms of patents and its balance sheet is good considering where they are. An equity firm wouldn't even look at it if it was hopeless.

I just can't believe Blackberry is even bothering to put out a new smartphone when they are going to be sold in pieces soon.
Its still a public company for the moment and as such they couldn't just give up and call it quits. If it were to be sold in pieces or taken private it needs to stay as attractive to those interested as possible. I am sure thats a little harder to do these days then a ...
Thanks for the PSA
Seriously, If it came out a year ago you would have been complaining about it not being ready for "prime time"
One reason why it wasn't unveiled in the US first and in some other country with less people going "too late!"
Re: At last...but sadly too late
Depends on what market you are talking about. In the UK, in India, in Indonesia this would be a big deal because BBM is a big deal.
I assume you are from the US and in your world, its not.
It still could be a big deal here. Its not like BBM is brand new or anything. Its been around a while and being cross-platform compatible might bring us all closer together

How does BlackBerry do it better?
Email is grouped inside of one icon on an iPhone. This is frustrating if you have multiple accounts like I do. You cant get to it quickly. It's buried.
Your only allowed one signature for all of them too. I know most people love their "sent from my iphone" generic messages but I need multiple signatures. I heard they may have finally addressed this?
Another annoying issue that I couldn't get around was on Pop3 ...

I think you might be the problem. A Smartphone is everything in one. Anybody can use a smartphone as a tool for business. Or as a toy and they don't need a separate device. The problem for RIM is the market for smartphones changed, smartphones used to be a tool used by adults at their jobs to get work done. The iPhone changed it so that smartphones are now toys for children to play with. They continued to make serious work tools, when no one wanted to use smartphones for work, only for play. THAT is the problem.

No, you are correct about Blackberry pulling out of this hole they put themselves in. However for them to survive they will need to shine better then Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony and even ZTE and Huawei. Can they do it, I believe they can. Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony, ZTE and Huawei are all hardware manufacturers using someone elses OS. If you ...

As much as I hate to admit it, Blackberry lost its foot hold on the market by staying stagnant, when iPhone and Android landed they stayed complacent by staying with their Java based OS on very under powered hardware. Seriously, those jobs aren't coming back. We don't want them unless we get paid $70 an hour, massive healthcare benefits and a fat pension after 20 years. Re: Z10 turning itself off and then back on
I had this happen maybe in the first week or two of having the phone. Seems to have solved itself in my case, but I know this is a common complaint. Not every phone has it though. Still a problem?
Huh?
This is a messaging phone running BREW. It has more in common with a flip-phone than a smartphone.
Buy to make your text messaging life easier banging out a million texts a month with its full keyboard instead of the numeric keypad of a flip phone. Its cheaper than smartphones if thats all you do or all you want your kids to do.
The only thing thats a rehash here is the form factor. Comparing to Windows, Palm, Blackberries, etc. is ...

The point of my post is that the Q10 does not require 100% swiping!! There are tons of Q10 specific keyboard shortcuts to get things done just as they had in the past.
For the first week I had my Z10 I found the lack of a home button a little strange too. I am now glad its gone and find our apple products with home buttons around here a little annoying. Even though apple makes it fun, it ...
Re: Not impressed.
A 4 inch screen coupled with a physical QWERTY type keyboard would be approaching phablet territory in terms of size.
Those that want actual keyboards know the tradeoffs. The whole point of getting the Q10 would be the keyboard and the advantages it gives those particular people.
A little hard on it
I think you are being a little hard on this device. There are still people out there that cant stand the frustrations of virtual keyboards for whatever they do. Maybe they pound out tons of emails or have fat fingers or long fingernails.
Comparing the Q10 to a pixi or a pre isn't really that reasonable from any angle either. From a hardware standpoint, they were both horrible and almost embarrassing produced by a company that had no cash to ...

'the race to the bottom' in pricing is not the path to prosperity...but rather the reverse.
This is so true in many industries. You used the fast food restaurant example...every time one starts a coupon/discount dollar menu war, others follow suit. Later when quarterly results are announced. The bottom line is hurt every time.
They do this over and over again to bring foot traffic through the door in hopes that they stay.

Re: Smokes iphone in speed, even on the internet LTE!
Congratulations!
We have iPhones, iPads, and my Z10 around here. Still enough apps on the Blackberry for a great many purposes.
Angry Birds, Spiderman, for the kids keeps them busy when we are out sometimes.
I always buy Blackberries for their communications abilities because for me its business first and play time 2nd. This is where they excel and blow the competition away.

Had to call Verizon CS to ask when I would be receiving it. Will be shipped 3/28. Probably will get it the next day. It rarely takes them 2 days to ship phones here anyway.
