No point for this phone
Do anyone see a point in this phone?
Between the S23 and S23 Plus, there is no need for a similar phone with nearly no difference.
If they would add a SD card slot + a 3.5mm headphone jack, that would sell like hot cakes.
Excellent (But does it have an SD card slot?)
I like this phone, except for the SD card slot, it checks all the boxes that people need on a reasonable sized phone. That's what the Galaxy S23 should be like. Fast storage (USF 4.0) and lots of memory, and a 3.5mm headphone jack!! The only thing I'd change is the selfie camera to the center of the phone.
Only unlimited? Is stupid
Many people don't need "unlimited" data. 15-20 GB would be sufficient, for half price. Give me a 20 GB plan for $40 and I am good to go.
So they care about the environment?
What about charger cables, Apple?
No Verizon?
I would buy the phone if it were available on Verizon Wireless.
I am very thankful to the manufacturers who still include SD card slots and more importantly, a 3.5mm headphone jack.
I wish more manufacturers would offer them, even Motorola on their higher-end EDGE phones are omitting these important features for some reason.
So sad.
No 3.5 headphone jack
I know many people are not interested in that, but tons of people still are, and may always be... Why fiddle with Bluetooth tiny pieces, charge it, pair it, it's a hassle! Regular headphones you just plug in and it always works...
I am not buying any phone missing a headphone jack. It's a pity that manufacturers don't add this little feature, even if most people are not interested in it, at least it doesn't bother them. I still hope ...
Re: A33
A shame it is. Samsung keep taking away features that people need, I believe most people would gladly give up the slightly bigger battery for the headphone jack. I always use the AUX jack in my car (I can't use bluetooth for several reasons) and have many pairs of good wired headphones which I want to use. Why is it so hard for Samsung to leave it there? Samsung are you listening? Please put it back, millions of people ...
Re: Samsung is now Samsux
I fully agree. Add to that list the headphone jack, and the lower resolution screens. Samsung used to have like 570 ppi on their top of the line phones, now they have about 400 - not much better than the old Retina displays of the iPhones.
Samsung kind of thinks, we built already our reputation, and many people are going crazy over iPhones, so we can downgrade everything that's lower on the iPhone. Like eliminating chargers. headphone jacks, etc.
Re: What about Verizon?
Stupid! It's not the same at all.
What about Verizon?
Will it be available on Verizon's network?
Really! No SD card slot?
Are they out of their mind?
No 3.5mm headphone jack?
They totally dropped the ball if not. I'd rather take just a 4,000 mAh battery but include a headphone jack.
Why so big? 5.8" screen like S10e would be perfect
Companies are going nuts with screen size lately! They totally forgot that some people prefer smaller screens!
Screen resolution too low
For 2020, any phone screen resolution under 300 ppi, is way too low.
Re: Terrific but........
Not true - the EDGE will have the same size screen.
Terrific but........
2 Things i would change:
1. Make a smaller version, 6.8" is HUGE and too large for most people. 5.8" Is good enough. And only 393 ppi? That's not enough for a premium phone.
2. The camera cutout should be in center, not on either edge.
Otherwise, I applaud them for everything else, especially for leaving the 3.5mm headphone jack. I hope the camera will also be similar to other premium phones, like Pixel-4 or iPhone 11.
Where is the "UNDO" feature
Dear Google, if you read here - please get this simple and important overlooked feature on Android ASAP - UNDO (and REDO).
Everything would be so much more productive!!
Imagine deleting by mistake a big block of text on a blog... There's no way to bring it back!!! It's ridiculous!!
Camera Resolution setting???
Will we finally be able to choose the resolution of the camera? Or still be forced to capture only with the highest setting?
Why?
I wish they would divide the services and you can pay separately for which part of the services you need. I mainly need the free 2-day shipping (though sometimes they cheat and it's 3 days) and the Prime video. No need for music, reading, photos, pantry, now, etc.
Why such a bad camera
This phone could have been an excellent basic phone, and a good competitor for the LG Exalt LTE, which lacks a front/external display. While the Exalt has a slightly larger display, it's way too long for some, and the DPI is slightly sharper in the Cadence. But the Cadence failed in the photo dept. A 2.0 megapixel camera? really? The Exalt has an 5.0 Mp and a 720p camcorder. This is a serious failure of the Cadence which may ...
Will this cut down the edges?
In other words, you may lose some parts of the video?
8 GB of internal storage
Happy to see 8 GB of internal storage. Can we expect that after 200 text messages I won't get that pesky message "you inbox is 80% full"?
What's the point?
Really, if there's no email (perhaps only a mobile useless browser), who needs LTE service? The voice calls are not much better (and worse at times), and LTE sucks battery much faster (hence, they upped the battery from 900mAh on the Exalt II to 1470). I wish LG would add an email application for this (Verizon doesn't support email on dumb phones anymore).
It's also sad to see the useless gimicky front LCD, instead of providing a reguler, easy to ...
I want an "UNDO" feature
"Undo". That's my most wanted feature for years! Just like CTRL+Z on my PC. Is that so difficult, Google? How many times do I select a big block of text and by accident it's gets deleted... I wish I can just press a button abd bring it back.
No sound improvement?
I can't believe that no one is talking about it. Does it still utilize the same speaker as the Galaxy S7? No stereo sound? Did Samsung ever tested an HTC smartphone?
Of course I'm happy that the left the 3.5mm headphone jack as is, but I was sure that in light of Apples recent sound improvements, that the S8 will have some sort booming stereo sound speakers.
Re: Poor Upgrade
I actually like that it's smaller, it's easier to hold & operate with one hand (I even wish they'd release the G5 in the US, not just the PLUS model). The slightly smaller screen also means a slight bump in dpi, it's now 424 up from 401. Not a biggie, but still a bit sharper.
How about the other improvements. Processor is now 2 GHz vs. a 1.5 GHz in the G4, the G5 also boast 3 or 4 GB ...
Re: good review
Another drawback is the screen resolution.
Re: Very nice but...
Huh? Enormous amount? In the last few years, Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony, all switched towards 5.0" and larger! Show me one modern phone smaller than 5.0"!! (Except for the iPhone, which so many people still love).
I am not against bigger phones. All I'm asking is, give us a choice. Not every phone needs to be that big. Some people have smaller hands. There are so many choices out there for huge phones, some people love phablets, others wanna ...
Very nice but...
These new phones seems to be an excellent choice, although I miss the old camera interface where you can tap anywhere on the screen to snap a pic, and not search for the shutter button. But on the other hand, it's now easier to set focus, similar to Samsung's Galaxy phones.
But what I'd really like, is a smaller version of this phone. This size is simply way too large for most people! Why not offer a 5.0" (or better ...
Number row?
Still not here? we need a dedicated number row on top, please!
Too large!
I love the recent mid-range affordable phones from Motorola, but think that 5.5" is way too big for most people. All the flagships are OK with 5.0--5.2". They should offer 2 sizes. a smaller one and a larger one, so there should be a choice. Most people will appreciate a smaller size screen.
Isn't it too much?
Hey Samsung, why are you giving this phone a speed of 1.2 GHz? I think 0.3 GHz would be enough. And why a whopping 1.5 GB of RAM? Wouldn't just 450 MB be sufficient? and why 294 ppi, I think that for such a basic phone, 180 ppi is fine.
What about a dedicated number row
What I want (LG & Samsung and many other 3rd party keyboards have it already for years!) a dedicated number row on top of the alphabetic keyboard. That would be a real convenience!
Excactly what we were waiting for (LOL)
We were so eager for the arrival of this phone, because we so much love the high QVGA 320 x 240 quality video recorder, and we sure love when after merely 200 text messages you get a notice "INBOX 80% FULL", and we hate when T9X saves words in your own user dictionary, so bottom line it seems like the perfect phone we've been waiting for many years...
"Touch Wiz" pros & cons
There are some things I love about Samsung phones interface (TouchWiz), and some I don’t like. I wonder why no one is never mentioning anything about these details. Here are the pros and cons compared to other Android devices.
Pros:
- When pressing the multi-task button and all apps appear, you have a “CLOSE ALL” option. On other Androids if you wanna close all running apps, you must close (swipe) each app individually .
- When pressing & holding the power button, ...
I need speed limits
Google keeps answering questions no one asked. The main feature missing from maps - something that all other GPS' (including low priced) feature - is showing speed limits of the roads. When can we expect this, Google?
Will it be backward compatible?
If I send a new emoji to an android 5 phone, what will they see?
Also, you didn't mention in the article if the Nexus 7 will get the update (I assume it will).
It's crazy
I need a good phone with a smaller screen. But I hate the fact which manufacturers believe that smaller screens equals less performance. I'd love to have a 4.7" screen phone but I also need a good, fast processor and 3 GB of RAM, and preferably HD resolution.. Why punish people with smaller hands?
Exactly what the world is waiting for!!
I can't stop wondering what LG is thinking. But well, I can't figure it out, so forget it.
What's the point?
Who will this phone cater to? It would've be a nice phone 5 years ago, but today? Rather take a cheap Motorola phone, it offers much more value.
