GSM also operates on 800MHz in the U.S. 800Mhz signals seem to penetrate obstacles better. That's from what I've read and personal experience. I can't point you to a definitive source though. Wireless advisor has some good discussions on why.

Re: Emailing photos to the VX 4500?????

IMO, the reason is because VZW uses Get It Now to sell these things to you so they've crippled their phones by disabling those features.

1. Menu->9->2->2->1->1 will let you set the amount of time the backlight stays on. 2. I don't think there is a way to keep the menu on the screen. However, you don't have to close and open the phone to get it back. With the phone open, you can press the voice key on the side of the phone to display the menu. 3. I usually put the phone in the holster and clip it to the visor ...

If my mobile number is given out by Verizon, then they shold make the first incoming minute free so I can hang up before getting charged for a call I didn't want. I know, I could let it go to voice mail and check it from a landline as someone else stated, but I like to answer the phone--that's why I have one. It might actually be an important call!

The v60p and the v60s are the same size and both come with a stub antenna. The v60i is slimmer than the other two and comes with an extendable antenna. The p and s support 1x, E911 and have limited BREW functionality. The i doesn't support any of those. I believe they all can use the same front and rear covers.

Mendel said: scottb said: The Enhanced Service[snip...snip] my question was on Verizon's coverage w/o paying roaming? Therein lies the (my) confusion. You can be roaming, but not paying extra for it. That is what VZW's Extended Network is. This would be the AC map for AC plans, the local map for LDC plan. However, VZW'own native coverage is much smaller that that area. That would be the carrier's coverage. Hopefully, you got your answer form all this. :)

Re: delayed billing?

My experience has been that if the delayed billing is from usage withing VZW's network, it's billed in the month it was used. If the billing is delayed as a result of roaming, its billed in same the month you see it on your bill regardless of when it was. That was a while ago--it might be different now.

The Enhanced Service map shows Verizon's native coverage. It's hard to tell exactly what the original question was--whether it was the carrier's (in this case Verizon's) own coverage or coverage including roaming parters.

Yes, I have changed the cover on a v60c. The hardest part is getting the outer lens off of the front cover without ruining either the cover or the plastic lens. The best thing to do is get a replacement plastic lens to put on with the new cover.

Yes, the v60ic battery is the same slim size and is 700 mha. The original v60c slim battery is 500mha.

Sorry, my mistake - 2 cents to receive, 10 cents to send.

On a text messaging plan, they all (incoming and outgoing) count toward the alloted messages. Overage is charged at two cents to send, 10 cents to receive. Analog is not necessarily roaming (former Sprinter?). You can use analog service and still be in the VZW or a partner's network. IMO all the providers together don't have 95% of the US covered.

The A530s has both a vib+ring feature and a vibrate for incoming messgages.

Yes, most (all?) new phones support 1x which will enable the phone to use the high speed National Access service.

You're right about the A310 battery life--not good. If you can put up with some of the bells and whistles, the A530 has much better battery life than the A310 but it does not do analog if you need it.

If you have a digital signal that is not 1x, then your phone will probably display a D instead

Consider the Samsung A310 or buying a v60i on eBay.

The v60s is the size of the v60p with a slim battery (the 700mha one that the v60i came with) There is an extra 3mm of thickness to the phone itself due to the speaker.

I got an A530s a couple of weeks ago and love the phone. It is certainly worth looking into. The only thing to consider is whether you ever need to use analog service in the places you go since the A530 is digital only.

If your phone is using the PRL, it really does not matter which it is set to, A or B. As jcohee4738 stated, it depends on where you live. In my area (NC) VZW is the A carrier and Alltel is the B carrier. I think the A and B are only used when the phone can't find a tower in the PRL.

Re: V60i battery question

You can use either battery in either phone. I believe the 5704 is 700mha and the 5705 is 800mha. Verizon sold the v60i with the slim battery and AT&T sold it with the bulkier extended battery.

It depends on where you're located. In my area (NC) you can use IP address 199.74.153.210 and port 9203. I don't have a VX4400 so I can't tell how to get into the settings.

In addition, the way it works in my market (NC) you have a choice of either unlimited M2M within your family share plan OR the standard 1000 M2M minutes
