It is rare to see tower construction. I don't know how many customers of mine ask "When are they going to build a tower in (insert some backwoods local)??" I seriously want to reply. Never... Your county won't approve it because it's tall... made of metal and they think it's ugly... If they can't build them... buy them... what else is there?

Being loyal to a store/product solely due to Customer Service is a double edged sword. In this economy, as others have pointed out; Consumers are of the mindset, "Save,Save,Save" and Retailers as well as governments shout "Spend, Spend,Spend it's good for the economy". There are people who value superior Customer Service. Heck it's what I do. Every person that buys a cellular product from us gets a phone call from me, thanking them; following up, answering questions that weren't answered ...

JL9000, Sprint's PTT is not superior to Verizon. And Most people would say that it doesn't come CLOSE to IDEN. It requires EVDO speed and that is not available everywhere. Statistics show that IDEN DC is more reliable than Sprint's PTT. No EVDO no PTT. Rarely do you see and IDEN user have no DC service. To push an Emergency Response Frequency that depends on PTT to a Sprint format would put people in rural areas in serious jeopardy. If ANY ...

Here's how I view it: Dan Hessy's crew proposes to the President that they GIVE them 2 billion dollars, disguised as funds to set up a First Responder network. Because he's driving both Sprint and Nextel into the ground. I don't think it has as much to do about 'being with Sprint' as it does putting pressure on the government to buy into a MUCH needed way to coordinate emergency departments when there is a disaster or a wide scale ...

Spectrum: meaning that it isn't used by one user. The 700Mhz frequency is used by carriers and emergency workers. Radio technology is just like any other technology. I didn't know anything about Mhz or any other hertz till I went to work for a Telecommunications Company. Read up on it, it's dry but pretty nice to know when people start freaking about about not being able to get DTV because of a delay. Sound waves aren't just for sonar :)

in the Article: Public Safety Orgs Want DTV Delay to Exclude 700Mhz forum

The FCC set up auctions for other parts of the 700 spectrum to be used by mobile phone carriers. It's a SPECTRUM, not one 'channel' to be used. This frequency is also used by emergency services like fire and police departments. So yes, it is being freed up, but for both phone carriers AND emergency service use.

As the article states : the 700MHz spectrum set aside for public safety networks Delaying their availability will effect police, fire and emergency communications. Much needed in areas that are at full capacity in other means of communications. While I agree the delay is not warranted, they should exclude the 700Mhz spectrum. Imagine not being able to contact an ambulance if your loved one needed emergency care, or being put on hold or getting a recording if you were calling the ...

I have a Nextel phone. It gets the best reception where I live, I'm not a construction worker. I am a Consumer. Sprint has the worst reception. IDEN may be slow for data, but people that use Nextel service are making Direct connections or using GPS or just making a regular call. They want results. This new ...

Broadcasting any signal costs money. By broadcasting a 'fixed message' to remind those that didn't bother to get a converter box or sign up for satellite or cable TV is not a feasible way of serving those who had a year to get a box or alternate service. On topic: delaying the use of the 700Mhz spectrum is dangerous for those emergency communications systems. This has nothing to do with seniors knowing about getting a converter box or getting cable. This ...

This service is worth more than 20 bucks a month for unlimited usage. Companies that use dispatchers: Plumbers, Construction, Installers, etc. need this service to pin point workers and calculate ETA's for the next customer in line. It may also give proof that the installer was at a job when customers were not available or didn't show up. Very important if there is a dispute of service. Nextel users value these types of services. I know My customers will see it is ...

wow, sorry I didn't answer, I haven't been on forums lately. No, IDEN is too slow for a VPN. Basically, any connection will be the speed of a 14.4 modem so VPN is pretty much impossible. Most common misconception of IDEN is that fewer people remember how it was originally used. For businesses like contracting, engineering, constuction. Any company that had employees in the field that needed instant and on demand connections. People looking for cute phones and who uses Push to talk should stick with the CDMA network. I see more and more of the trend of customers going with a carrier because they have the 'cool looking phones' not because their network is ...

I've got to agree with Sprint Seed. I live in West Michigan. My company was the first company in Michigan to offer Nextel. Hundreds of business here rely on push to talk capabilities. It's quicker, makes the user more productive. In West Michigan it would cost Sprint a FORTUNE to upgrade towers to EVDO Rev A to accomdate all the current uses of IDEN. I was just at a Sprint NDC Kick off seminar featuring the Sanyo Pros. They didn't even mention Airave. Since the Pro 700 standard battery has a 5 hour battery life, a three hour drain is pretty significant. I'm waiting for our Sprint Rep to email me the pretty glossy step by step pages they used in the Powerpoint presentation they showed us. I can't remember if they mentioned a power save mode.

You get poor signal in Baltimore... okay. I get that. There are several variables that contribute or take away from anyone's signal 'experience'. Terrain, the actual quality of the phone, structures ( i.e. the building or surroundings when you try to make a call ) It's not always the carrier. Towers are towers, what the connect to, and what's AROUND what they connect to is a factor. As in life... your experience may vary...

I found both reviews, Eric's and the other one listed to be pretty straight forward. Although this device does not support data, it seems to be a fairly good choice for customers that experience poor reception at home. There is a market for this item. It may not be for everyone but it's a relatively cheaper option than Zboost. You get what you pay for, this is just something different that solves a pretty frustrating problem.
