Sprint Airave

I have had problems with low Sprint signals since I signed up nearly 2 yrs ago. I have a Palm Treo 700wx and I have never been able to get my e-mail to work right when at home. I often loose service while inside my house or have only one bar. My wife and I regularly loose calls and messages due to poor service. Sprint says I have "excellent coverage" for my area. I would hate to see their poor coverage. When I contact Sprint about the poor signal quality, the first thing out of their mouth is I need to get my phone checked and I need to use my upgrade to purchase a newer phone (and get another 2 yr contract); NOT! I inquired about this device and was told it wasn't available to me in my area. Tech Support told me that my e-mail won't...

I just wanted to point out that the Sprint Airave device is meant to improve signal quality but in no way impacts data. It is a device intended for voice services only. Do not get this device thinking it will improve your data coverage because it will not.

So basically you want them to let you out of the contract even though everything on their end says you shouldnt be? Why should they just take your word for it? You think business is done that way? If so, then any customer with any carrier could just make a bogus claim just so they could get out of their contract.

A fair solution to me would be for them to offer you better phones, let you try them out for 30 days, if it works for you, one year contract renewal, if you dont like them, send the phones back.

Sprint is not listening to my complaints. I keep telling them that I have a really low quality signal and sometimes lose it altogether at home. I offered to photograph our phone screens along side a GPS to show our location and lack of "bars" and they keep referring back to their flawed maps. I asked if they could sent a technician or engineer to our location to verify what we are not getting and all I get is a line of crap from them. I haven't seen any carrier that has accurate maps that they release to the public. I refuse to spend one penny more on more phones. Why should I? I owe Sprint nothing for the hassle I have in keeping their lousy service. Sprint just needs to spend some money beefing up their signal in my area or let me ...

No carrier's coverage map is a 100% accurate. There are lots of different sources that can effect your cell reception. Coverage maps gives you a general idea of coverage. If its so bad just cancel and move on.

Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong, but did you not say when you called to complain about your service and cancel they offered you a FREE Airrave, and I'm sure they were willing to comp the monthly fee as well. Did you not say your issue was poor service? Sounds like you were offered a very fair solution. If you don't like that than nothing will please you and you deserve to be slapped with a 400.00 ETF. Also, did you not notice this horrible service in the 1st 30 days you had the phones? You know, the 30 day TRIAL. Just curious...

I didn't mention that this is my second time around with Sprint. I had them in 2000 and their coverage was so horrible, my phone would not work in ANY building. Sprint said they could not guarantee coverage inside a building. I left after my one yr contract was up then and was hesitant about coming back, but was assured they were much improved. At the time, we had few choices in cell phone carriers to choose from. Now we have lots to choose from.

Yes, when I asked Sprint about the Airave, they told me it was not available for use in my area and would not work. I then asked to be let go and they said it would cost me $400 to go 3 months early. Yes, my service has always been on the week side, but it has gone down considerably in t...

I went from Virgin Mobile, to Sprint, to Verizon, to Cingular (now AT&T), and now back to Sprint. I can tell you that overall Sprint has been the best to me. I left both Verizon and Cingular over reoccurring bill problems and plan limitations.

I do not know why they are saying the Airwave is not available in your area. It should not matter. Anyone with a broadband connection can get one. Also the review stated that data services go through it as well, so your email should work.

Well you did sign a contract, and in that contract it does have a box that you initial saying you know the length of time that you are bound to Sprint. So, if I were Sprint, I wouldn't have any sympathy.

You sound just like the pathetic schmucks I've tried to reason with at Sprint! With attitudes like yours, who needs customer service! EVERYONE will hate you if they don't already. 😈

All flaming aside, Sprint has worked itself into the same kind of situation as many of our airlines. They are in dire financial straights and they are so far out of touch with their customers needs and wants that they continue to worsen their plight by giving really poor customer service or none at all. By years end, we will see at least one major carrier go belly up and Sprint won't be far behind. I have no sympathy for Sprint either as they had this little box that they had to sign in that stated they accepted all the cost of obtaining Nextel a...

Mr.4tail, I just want to give you some feed back on the airave. I myself have the airave and found it to work great. I worked in the wirless field for Dobson Communications for several years as a tech. From what I was explained to the airave should work anywhere there is sprint coverage. I would call back.

Just fall in line with the millions that are leaving sprint for poor customer service. It's worth the four hundred to be done with them, the sooner you do the quicker you'll be enjoying ATT!

Okay I don't understand this... Sprint always has poor signal... I live in Baltimore city! and they claim full coverage throughout online... but at my home its 1 or no bars... so i got at&t... and FULL 3G signal EVERYWHERE! even when I travel to the poconos! so you really should switch to at&t.... plus you would get rollover!

You get poor signal in Baltimore... okay. I get that. There are several variables that contribute or take away from anyone's signal 'experience'. Terrain, the actual quality of the phone, structures ( i.e. the building or surroundings when you try to make a call ) It's not always the carrier. Towers are towers, what the connect to, and what's AROUND what they connect to is a factor.

As in life... your experience may vary...

"Sprint always has poor signal."? That sounds like a blanket statement which I think is unfair to make. Sprint has excellent service everywhere I need it and I know a lot of others who feel the same way. Why do people try to take their own personal experience or opinion and try to generalize it as being a fact? It's the attitude if it doesn't work good for me it must not work good for everyone else either.

A couple of things to mention. The Airave will provide more reliable service in the event of a natural disaster such as an earthquake, fire, hurricane, etc. During such events it is very common for the regular network to become overloaded and shut down as individual cell sites max out for capacity and the switches can also become overloaded. Since the Airave uses the internet connection and a different switch than the regular network to transmit and receive calls there's a better chance it will hold up in an event such as an earthquake.

Also improved signal from the Airave can potentially give your phone better battery life between charges.

With an Airave you will also have more reliable incoming calls as it uses a single PN offset ...

I'm not sure I agree with the entire statement of helping in natural disasters. If the closest tower is destroyed and you can't connect to the next closest via airwaves, you are out of luck on using anything unless this thing is hard-wired to land lines. Is it?

I just wish Sprint had the balls enough to step up and offer this to me before they played all these games and said they couldn't help us and that this unit wasn't available. That really pissed off my wife and she hasn't even talked to them and wants nothing to do with Sprint ever again. She just wants a product to work like it should when we pay more than $100 a month for service. That sounds reasonable to me and I will back her needs and wants all the way. This device sound...

No you are mistaken. The Airave does not work that way. It does not connect to any tower at all. It connects using the internet connection which is routed to a network switch that's entirely seperate than the regular network. So in other words as long as you have your internet connection you are good to go. In my case it's DSL so I would need my landline in operation. If you have cable then you would need your cable signal. During the last earthquake we had here in So. Cal (last month) most landlines and cable held up just fine. It was the wireless networks that all lost service.

If you where my customer, I probably would have talked you into a 700P instead of the WX in the first place, it has more reliable software. Second, before I sold you your contract I would have considered where you live and what you do for a living, this way from experience I could have old you what service you might be able to expect; and advise you of your 30 day happiness guaranty. If suddenly your service level dropped, and I didn't get a rave of similar customer complaints, I would want to check out your handset. If you have insurance, ( and when I sold you this Treo I would have advised it because of the replacement cost is high without it), if so it would be fixed for FREE. If it wasn't your handset, it wasn't the network, then it...

Well, I started out with a 700P, had all kinds of trouble, couldn't surf the Net and had the phone replaced with the 700wx by my handset insurance and advice of our local retailer based on my needs. I carry the insurance on all my phones. My wife's RAZR does the same weird things, only much worse. The Palm is able to raise above most phones and hold onto calls pretty good where the RAZR doesn't. I have a friend also with Sprint on a newer Palm 755P and they are having the same problems of missing calls, unable to connect to the Internet and problems with their e-mail.

As far as our home; nothing unusual. We don't have a metal roof, we are not located in a valley. In fact it is so flat you can see as far as the weather allows in al...
