Revamped Compare Interface

I just launched a totally revamped interface to the side-by-side phone comparison feature.

The old way was pretty non-obvious, non-intuitive, and cumbersome. A lot of people probably didn't even know the feature existed. The link was hard to find, and you had to jump all around the site just to select a couple of phones to compare. It was like a scavenger hunt or something. It sucked, I admit. 🤭 Sorry.

Anyway, now there's a big, obvious "Compare Phones" link on the main "Phones" page (which has also been revamped). That takes you to a new page where you can select all the phones at once. And the results page now has easy "add" and "remove" links.

Oh, and you can now compare up to 5 phones at once. 🙂 (The max was 3 before.)

Rich, a suggestion

I have noticed cruising through phonescoop stirring up trouble that there is no link back to the main forums page on a few of the forums. Is this intentional, and if not, could they be added? I'm a creature of habit, and it throws off my flow when I have to side menu!

Rich I have a question..

First, NICE changes! Looks great... Question for you is in the carrier section... how is the order chosen? Is by carrier size? and will that change as carriers change their ranking?

Forum Layout

A lot of other fora I visit (like TiVoCommunitiy.com) group every reply under a thread in a single link from a board's main page. This keeps the 100 replies from a single thread from knocking all other threads off the board. Moderators are also able to make threads "sticky" so they always appear at the top of a given board -- which is great for FAQs. Can't phonescoop.com implement these kinds of organizational features? They are badly needed.

We need a forum for discussion about all things BlueTooth. That way we can talk about all the nifty uses for the technology. 🙂

board suggestion

i just had a question about the style of forums we have here. the way they're set up are a bit of a pain to read and to sort through, what with the thread titles being listed instead of just showing the post itself. it makes it hard to tell which posts are new and which ones are not, it just doesn't seem too user friendly to me.
any chance of getting a different kind of forum? such as UBB or even ezboard? an alternate site i visit often http://www.sweatydudes.com/forum (no it's not porn, 😛 )uses something i think is called phpbb, it only costs the owner $20 a month to run and it's definitely my favourite kind of board to visit.
i just thought i'd run this by you, though the forums probably don't get enough traffic to warranty changing th...

No MPX220 on Phonescoop?

The info is out there, Brighthand and a few others have reported it and Motorola finally acknowledged it. I'm shocked that Phonescoop doesn't have it on the site yet. 😲

Pre-Paid Camera Phones

Hi 😁 ,
I'm just wondering if they are any pre-paid camera phones around. To me Virgin Mobile has the best selection pre-paid of phones, and I currently have the Audiovox 8610, but I want a camera phone, I just don't won't to go through the struggle of getting a plan using credit, because I don't use my phone that much anyway. I live in South Florida, and I would be very happy If someone could tell me of any carriers that have pre-paid services that carry camera phones.

Email fixed

There were some issues with email from the server over the last few days. Some registration emails, forum alerts, feedback to me, etc. might not have been sent.

It's fixed now.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

NEW: Print & Email links

New feature on the site: "Print" and "Email" links for most pages throughout the site. They're located on the left, and also on the front page, for each news item.

"Email" works for almost all pages. Share the love - tell your friends about Phone Scoop! 😉

"Print" only appears on specific pages where I thought it made sense. And for each type of page you can print, I've tweaked the content so you only get the parts that make sense to print, and tweaked the layout to better fit a letter-size page.

Give both features a whirl, and let me know what you think! 🙂

New Server!

I just finished moving phonescoop.com to a new server setup. In fact, it's a set of six shiny new servers! 😳 😁

It may not look much different, but there have been some pretty dramatic changes behind the scenes.

So if you spot any problem or glitches, please let me know immediately! Don't assume I know about it.

Thanks! 🙂

Request for User Review Guideline

When a phone is offered by multiple carriers, it often differs from carrier to carrier, sometimes markedly; yet they are lumped together for users to review. I'm suggesting including a reviewer guideline that will ask the writer to specify the carrier when reviewing a phone sold by more than one U.S. company. As an example, the earpiece volume levels on the Nokia 6200 (Cingular) are too low; the volume levels on the 6200 (AT&T Wireless) are exceptionally good. This might help distinguish the differences and give the reader more accurate information.

An Idea for the forums

I had the idea that perhaps its time that a forum is created for reps. I have noticed over the last 6 month's that it seems to be very rare that an actual wireless customer asks a question in the forums anymore. At least in the AWS forum this sems to be the case. All it seems to be is either reps having a collective B!^#$ session or reps asking questions to each other, perhaps its time we set aside a section for this. Maybe everyoe else likes it the way it is and that's fine too but it just seems like the whole purpose of the forums has changed and it might be nice to have a little of that back.
