isn't it
against the law to do this? i could be totally wrong, but i thought that providers couldn't discriminate against certain types of data traffic on their networks
Re: This guy was for the ATT/Tmo merger!
right, Obama couldn't have been re-elected because Mitt Romney pretty much changed his stance on every issue, catered to the extreme right, and dismissed minorities and anyone that was part of the "47%". I'm sure the comments about having binders of women and corporations being people didn't help.... Obama was re-elected because Romney was a toolbag.

embedded sim?
I hope not
Re: i hope...
so true...which is why ultimately they'll take the deal and shut up. Sprint should just raise their offer to like 3.05/share and put all this to bed. Get the deal done

Re: Yaye!!! Now go kill Sprint!!!
Why would you want that? Nobody is killing anyone. If anything, Softbank/Sprint will buy T-Mobile USA down the road.
Re: Yaye!!!
That really might happen down the road. T-Mobile/MetroPCS and Softbank/Sprint might combine....
Re: Note 2
verrrrrr interesting
Note 2
could this be activated on Boost??
Re: This is....
I don't necessarily believe that. It was just a response to a petition. There are thousands of petitions that people create. The fact that it was commented on by the FCC and the President is a great thing. And the FCC chair said he is going to see what he can do. As far as bringing legislation, congress can't even pass legislation that we need to keep the country running functionally. Why would they vote on this now, when ...
This is....
exactly what I like to hear
Re: a lot of stuff
I'm not too up on this stuff, but maybe you guys can help me understand. Does this mean that a cell phone manufacturers eventually won't need to make both a GSM and CDMA variant of a phone? And they'll just be able to have one phone with all the radios (cdma and gsm) built into one chip?
what I took out of this is....
that sprint will ultimately end subsudies, and go for the financing method. It's a good move. I think that eventually, all providers will follow. We'll probably just get to the point where the carriers are cut out of the device buying, and they'll just offer the service.
Until the FCC puts up the nationwide WiFi network they keep talking about, that has the US wireless carriers and cable/broadband companies pooping bricks
WINNING
Re: lol why even bother with throwing out the update?
yea me too. he got the update, there was a glitch that froze him out text messaging, so he had to do a master reset. But it looks like it was well worth it, it's a lot faster now. It looks modern and it's very snappy.
Re: lol why even bother with throwing out the update?
I wanted to see also but that old piece of %$ was taking forever. I left work before it finished. I'll find out tomorrow
Re: lol why even bother with throwing out the update?
As we speak, my co-worker is downloading the updated LOL :o
Re: BYOD?
Engadget is saying that it's only available with select phones....
Here you have it....
"The review is likely aimed at ensuring that Softbank continues to work with U.S. law enforcement to create wiretaps when there is a court order, said James Lewis, a cybersecurity expert with the Center for Strategic and International Affairs." - Reuters
Softbank will obtain Sprint, Sprint will obtain Clearwire, AT&T and Verizon will be pooping bricks....
Re: oh no
I read that because base stations are 100x cheaper now, that spectrum is infinitely more valuable, and the data speeds are lightening fast. Softbank uses the same spectrum band in Japan, and could get cost savings with buying handsets for sprint, as well as itself.
Re: AT&T is worried
i think you are right. I would say that 'wc4r' is correct though. This will ultimately go through, and we will start to see some serious competition in the wireless industry....It's LONG overdue
Re: oh no
SERIOUSLY. I hope that the FCC takes the petition from Verizon and just throws it in the recycle bin...which I'm sure they will do figuratively
Hmmmmmmm
I could be wrong, and correct me if I am, but isn't this the same band of spectrum that Softbank is buying Sprint for, with the hopes of Sprint buying Clearwire, to get this band of spectrum? Please correct me, and add any thoughts. It's verrrr interesting.
it's so obvious
that Dish wants to cut a deal with Sprint it's madness. Just make a deal happen, share some spectrum, start a joint venture, or whatever you have to do, and let the Sprint/Clearwire/Softbank deal go through so we can start to see some competitiveness in the wireless industry here in the US.
Phones
i see that the LG Optimus L9 is offered, but does that mean it's the only phone you can use on the plan, or is that the only phone they're offering at a discount for this plan? Can you use whatever phone you want?
Re: Only one problem...
I do too. I'd def be interested in this
Re: Sounds good...
do you think they will eventually, or should eventually, allow all sprint handsets to be used. I don't really understand why there is a limited selection of handsets. If all phones, high end android and apple iphones, were allowed to be used with this plan, it would probably be a game changer...
Greed
runs wall street, greed is also behind this move by Crest Financial. Crest could give two hoots about taxpayers' interests in this deal. Crest cares about making as much money off of this deal as possible. Because a strong 3rd competitor in the US cell phone market is badly needed, this Clearwire, and Softbank deal is going down. Lock it in.

Re: What did you expect?
There is ZERO doubt that Motorola is going to produce (and is probably refining as we speak) a Google super phone.
Re: And I ....
LOLOLOL i love posts like this. the "And I ...." had me in suspense, and the "Now have it." made me laugh.
Re: Would this be an acquisition or a repossession?
Hahaha. I like that. But i do remember reading Clearwire being a very important factor in softbank's decision to buy most of Sprint.... You're right tho...we'll see how it really plays out
Re: Would this be an acquisition or a repossession?
Spectrum for softbank and their cash toto put to use for high speed internet that is how...
Re: Isn't this like?
Booooooooooooooooo
Re: Truth in Advertising is News?
I absolutely understand and respect that response. I'm curious to see where the industry will be in like 5 years
Re: Truth in Advertising is News?
I care about it, and I'd give them a couple cookies...
Re: Yay!

There is a limit in it.

Re: Misleading Claim
They've invented cell phones where we can do as much as we could on a desktop computer a decade ago, I think they should be able to figure out how to improve battery performance a little bit...
