From a real, and very dissatisfied user

Apr 8, 2006 by marin_caller

I used a friend's razr in January for 2 calls. I was hooked. So I got one of my own. Huge mistake. I didn't realize that her Cingular Razr was a completely different animal from my Verizon Razr. Nothing seems to work well with this phone with 2 exceptions - the sleekness and the great large numbered display, provided one hasn't run out of battery power.

The worst of the awful features for me are:
1. It is impossible to select a ring tone and have it remain set to that tone. The buttons on the side are so trigger-happy that as soon as you touch the phone your own settings disappear. So a ring tone set to loud becomes no ring tone at all.

2. Lots of calls (seems like more than 50%) go straight thru to voicemail with no indication either by ringing or on the screen that they ever happened. I have used the phone in all kinds of locations from California to NY and this is a consistent problem, much worse than with any previous Verizon phone I have owned.

3. When I select a name in my address book, and hit the call button, I expect that the cell phone or whatever is the first listed number of that person will be the one that will ring. But this phone has a mind of its own. It calls whichever number listed under that person's name that it feels like calling on a given day. I call this chaos dialing.

I have now owned my phone for about 7 weeks, so I can't take it back. But I hate it so much that I will consider just ditching it and buying something else to save my sanity. I just found this site an hour ago and I'm so glad that I have a chance to vent here. After sorting through the professional posters and finding the real users, I know that I am not alone.

Excellent Phone!

Let me start by mentioning the people who should not buy this phone due to it's current feature set:

1) If you cancelled your cable TV for Vcast.
2) If you returned your Ipod for the V3C.
3) If you held out on buying a digital camera for the V3C.

Keeping in mind that this is a phone, and not a device to satisfy your every last craving for entertainment, the V3C performs second to none.

Pros:
-Sound Quality (sounds like a landline)
-Reception (even better than my 710)
-Size\shape
-Screen faces in on belt clip (protects screen)
-Antenna is located in the hump at the bottom - gives better reception, also lowers the SAR since it's not pressed to the side of the head.
-Speakerphone
-.03 software fixes many bugs found in .02
-Vibrate is strong.

Cons:
-Battery life isn't great, but not horrible either.
-Software can be slow sometimes.
-Has only 1 volume preset for the ringer (my 710 has 2 - loud & soft)
-Can only customize 1 of the 4 home screen shortcuts.

One thing to keep in mind, the signal indicator on this phone doesn't seem to display the true DB level that this phone receives. I will have 2/4 bars where my 710 has 4/5 or 5/5 bars. Yet this phone will hold a call where my 710 can't (I have tested this). Just shows that you shouldn't judge signal quality based on the bars alone.

If you're thinking about the razr, make sure you get one w/ .03 software (unless you want OBEX). You shouldn't rate this phone poorly based on outdated software.

Hope this helps.

yuck!!

Sure when you saw this phone on tv and on display, you thought it was the coolest----not true!
This phone sent me thru more H***, tyring to navigate and find little loop holes for different settings!
But dont let the slim design fool you, it was actually one of the sturdiest, ive ever had.
PROS: bigger screen
excellent sound
CONS:structure (try holding the phone up to your ear while multi tasking, impossible)
the way Verizon has restrictions on what the phone is fully capable of doing
recording sounds and you cant play them out loud so using them as ringtones are useless

Vzw Razr = near perfect...

Alright.. WEll Im a phone whore to start off.. I have had just about every LG.. or nokia.. I used to have the LG 9800 aka the V.. I had to get a multifer to the Samsung a950 becuz the lg9800 was too much drama and crap.. I had the samsung a950 for about 3 weeks.. it was a Pretty good phone... best samsung im sure.. But samsung is kinda cheapy to me. flimsy & all... So I got the razr for my birthday.. I was skeptical about it for a while due to all the bad reviews..
MOST OF them ARE WRONG!!!
The main problem on this phone is the software aka not the motorola look? dont like it? go to Cingular or Tmobile and cry more Verizon is verizon...
Anyway.. Battery life people also complain about the battery life? put the Battery Save Mode on! It lasts 2 days.. And i use my phone extensively and Extreme.. Text messaging all day and calls in and out, videos, and camera almost everyday.

Pros:
Great Look Stylish Blah blah that every1 says.
Reception in Southern California.. A++
Speaker phone loud and clear.
Battery Life - Great
Not Flimsy at all
Vibrates Hard
Clear Voice/other end hearing
Clear Pix/Flix
Battery Charge = 1 hour

Cons: No Vibrate and Ring @ same time..
software a little slow, but they are coming out with a new one to fix the problem. should be fast like the e815 and the lg's...
Other than that this phone has been by far the best i've owned...
Great Job Verizon... Hope this helped everyone...

Dont waste your time....

I had the razor, and I returned it!!! #1 reason was because the software sucked and reception was worse. Motorola did a really bad job on this phone, it was just kinda slapped together. I've never heard as many complaints in the store about any other phone but this one. If you are looking for a durable and dependable phone, DONT BUY THIS ONE!!! WASTE OF $350.00.

Solid, Classy ;not all V3Cs are created equal

Mar 31, 2006 by dtrazz

The First cell phone I ever owned was the old MicroTac flip phone in 1996,it's also the only other Motorola I have owned, I remember thinking how compact it was, Motorola sure has come a long way, just over a week ago Midwest Wireless (soon to be Alltel) in southern MN got the RAZR and I was the first one to get one, I've been waiting since I saw the Cingular version first advertised. First of all I think there should be two different reviews for this phone, one for the Verizon UI version and one for the Moto UI version, they are basically two different phones. it seems that the majority of the complaints are with the Verizon UI which reflects poorly on all RAZR v3cs:

Pros:
A) Thin Form Factor
B) Solid expensive-feeling phone
C) Very Classy looking
D) Mostly metal & glass very little plastic
which adds to the solid expensive feel,
and classy look.
E) Very easy to use and configurable UI
F) Good Speaker Phone
G) Can put any MP3 on the phone via Blue
Tooth or USB cable and use as ring tone
H) Charges quickly (1 1/2 hrs)
I) Good Phone Book setup
J) Decent Camera
K) The Battery life is even good enough for
me (about 3 days)

Cons:
What cons?

I highly recommend this phone with the Moto UI, I can't speak for the Verizon UI, (all I know is that you couldn't give me one of those) this is definitely the best phone I have ever owned.

Verizon RAZR V3c not a RAZR V3

Mar 29, 2006 by BubbaGee

I like the size and sound clarity of the phone but have some issues with the firmware and one mechanical issue. I got the .03 version firmware that removes the OBEX feature of the phone so you have to use Verizon's email package to get images and ringtones on and off the phone. Since the RAZR was originally designed with that feature I don't think Verizon should market the phone as a RAZR phone.

Now for the mechanical problem, the hinge on the phone is getting loose after only two weeks. When I contacted Verizon about it via email they told me it could be exchanged but if I wanted them to transfer my contacts and other data to the new phone it would cost me $10.00. Now that is customer service, not.

The Motorola RAZR is a nice phone I just think Verizon has cheapened it for me. If another carrier had the coverage that Verizon did I would be gone in a heart beat.

form does not follow function

Hi,
the old bromide states "form follows function"
Not true with the RAZR, in its haste to put out a product, in its desire to make it real small and sexy, they threw a bunch of features in a box, and left them where they fell.

Although the phone works fine, its high cost is associated with features.
Now e.g., if you want to hold the phone while using the speakerphone, you have the choice of your hand covering the antenna, restricting reception a bit, or your hand covering the speaker (and possibly mike) - same problem. If you want to put the phone on the seat, either you've covered the speaker or the mike (they are on opposite sides of the contraption)

groups are not categories in the address book, as you can only put in 6 or 7 names per group (I wanted to list all of the local restaurants in a group in order to sort through them without remembering individual names)

The screen washes out in any kind of daylight.

This phone is downright dangerous, requiring you to look at the keypad to select an on or off button or dial, as there is no resolution to the keypad in order to shave a mm off the thickness. Also the side buttons (like to turn on the speakerphone or change volume) essentially requires two hands as the buttons are not conveniently located on the lower half where your hand is likely to sit.

Somehow, I always seem to be covering the lens with my hand as the lens is virtually across from the "take" button - I can be successful, but it is clumsy.

I don't know why, but the phone is uncomfortable in my hand for long conversations - not true for previous phones.

Happily Moto has improved their contacts menu to provide multi numbers/contact and reasonable contact search with an incremental search - no more having to scan a list to find whomever you're looking for.

I guess that teens might get more sex if they have a pink razr, but for the rest of us try a less haphazardly designed device.

disclaimer: these rants come from only 1 week of ownership.

Are you guys kidding me....n00bs!

ok first of all, when i first got the phone i had my doubts, knowing verizon and their deficient plans to monopolize music and video downloads with V-Cast, made me really uneasy, but the first day i got the phone, i got myself a mini-B connection to usb cable and flashed an Altell bios into it and my phone is unlocked with every feature u want, mp3, video anything u can imagine transferring from your computer, i still haven't figured out a way to transfer some java games..even though im not sure V3c is java enabled...you can even add your own customizable skins...wallpapers...god i love this phone more by the minute...i gotta admit though...the only thing that verizon does well, is their service and coverage areas...but trying to block any relevant feater from a phone like this is probably the lowest they have ever went...so people get this phone and FLASSSHHHHH IT !!! you will be amazed by the results, and trust me im not the most intelligent guy when it comes to flashing cellphones, so if I can do it you can too !..the only reason i gave it a 4.5 and not a 5 is because the buttons on the outside get pressed when your walking or sitting somewhere. So to make a long story short...get V3c from Verizon ONLY if you know how to flash a phone firmware...if not..then change carrier because verizon just wants to rip you off with V-CAST..i wish i could curse right now but knowing the regulations of this website im pretty sure i cant...anyways good luck

Buy a different phone

Mar 25, 2006 by phorku

I have had my Razr v3c for 2 weeks now and have already encountered 3 software bugs.

1. Speed dial does not work properly. If you have a contact's moblile on one and home on 12 and press 12#send it calls the mobile number. Called motorola tech support and they told me to exchange the phone. I had also emailed them and after finally getting a response the gave me a special number for the Razr 1-866-513-1322. Why don't they communicate between departments and why couldn't the support people call the number themselves so I wouldn't have to? So after calling the Razr number they told me this bug would be fixed with a software update due out this week.

2. First day I had it it would not keep time properly. I thought this was a fluke but it seems others have this problem as well.

3. Alarm clock is set Mon-Fri. Today is Saturday and I am up at 6am because it goes off on the weekends too.

Hopefully the software update will be addressing issues 2 and 3 as well. I will be calling them back today to find out. I wonder if Verizon will take back the accessories as well if I exchange the phone. Apparently Motorola has no quality control so I would buy a different phone if I were you!
