Mediocre to bad

May 12, 2005 by tvrfreak

I wish people would only review phones that they own. Of course things look cool from a distance. I had my imate sp3i (see the review I did for it) stolen yesterday, so I did some research and this one seemed to be a match in features, plus it had a megapixel camera, so I decided to buy it. BIG mistake. For the most part, this phone sucks.

Here's why:
The speakerphone is terrible.
The media player is terrible--the interface is not usable.

The basic phone features are hiddden around, and it is very difficult to make sense of Nokia's silly menus and hidden options. The button assignments are terrible. You are constantly pushing the wrong buttons because the screen menu is above the wrong one. Plus, for most of the items, you have to use the second button in from each side, instead of the first one. NOT intuitive.

The overall construction is flimsy. Just try opening the battery cover or removing the media card or the SIM card and you will see what I mean.

The buttons don't feel "good" to press.

The overall design is not as sleek as the sp3i's, and the screen is somewhat small compared to how wide the phone is.

Radio only works with headphones. The headphone connector is not standard stereo jack, so \phone cannot be used as car mp3 player. I used my sp3i as one, with a cassette adapter. I could hack the right jack on after I cut the cable...bah.

Reception OK. Battery life good.
Decent camera. No flash.
A lot of goofy features that noone uses, like "muvee editing"--complete crap.

I got it to sync using Bluetooth, so that was nice. But it took all evening--at first it synced only the calendar. Then it claimed it pulled in all the contacts, but that took 5 tries.

Overall, don't buy this phone. I am getting rid of mine as soon as the HTC Universal comes out!
