CHEERS TO MOTO!!!

Mar 8, 2005 by kenesis

I'm really enjoying this phone. See below for what I like nd dislike.

Pro's:
A) It is fairly affordable. +++
B) The camera is pretty good for a phone. +++
C) It is able to record video, however you can only really record things moving in slower motion otherwise it will be choppy. +
D) It is a quad band phone with means I can travel basically anywhere in the world and use my phone, the only thing is I don't really travel the world. +
E) It has a really good speaker-phone for easy handfree use. ++
F) Fantastic color display, much better than my old Moto T720. +++
G) You can download and use MP3's for your ringtones. +++
H) It feel really solid and has some weight, which helps ease the worrying of easily damaging it. +
I) It has bluetooth. ++
J) The reception it good. I am from Canada and I use Rogers Wireless, but then again I have never had bad reception with them in the past 3 years. ++++
K) The calendar system is way better than the pervious Moto's that I have had. +++
L) External caller ID has a blue backlight, I know it's really not to important, but it sure looks nice. +
M) Sound quality is good while on a call. +++
N) Mobile Internet & Edge. It is quite is bit faster with downloads. The only thing I don't like about it is paying for it =P. +

Cons:
A) The phonebook is stupid. I hate how it show the person name and phone at the same time and only one number per entry.
ex. -->> kenesis
306 555 8020

kenesis cell
306 555 0420

B) The menu interface maybe difficult for novice user of Motorola devices. I'm familiar with it so it really doesn't bother me much
C) Looks....??? It is an interesting spaceship looking model, but it does the trick!
D) It is a little bit longish, but it's not a really big problem.
E) The battery is great with phone only use. If your using all the features all day long, your battery is much more likely to run out, but that is just common sense!

Over all 4.5 out of 5!

Nice phone but.......

I got this phone to replace my aging Nokia 6340i. I must say it is beautiful compared to my old phone. lots more features however.... I live and work in some remote areas and an external antenna connection is a must. That is the main reason I picked this phone.
I ruined 3 v551 phones by using the external antenna jack. Don't Do It!! Evidently something is shorting out when using the jack.
For now I have gone back back to my old trusty Nokia which works happily with my external antenna.

Solid phone

It's a simply beautiful phone. It's an attention grabber. Once I asked an Apple employee why I should buy an iPod over an iRiver. He responded with, "Does the iRiver look cool?" and I thought about it. That with the educational discount sold me and I happily bought my iPod. A lot of phones have all the same features and work relatively the same. Why not get something pretty?

Personally, I like the phone a lot. I enjoy the bluetooth capability and it's reception is fine, as that's rarely ever the phone's doing and more has to do with the carrier. Also, a lot of people forget that price is a factor and within certain price ranges phones will be lacking certain abilities or features.

Pros:
Beatiful design and finish
Vivid screen
Good VGA camera (buy a digital if you're a whiner)

Cons:
Poor video capture (duh)
Slow software
5 mb accessible space
Menus take a long time to get used to
External display does not show date

Neither:
Average battery life. You will get what is stated on the specs.

For $150 -$50 rebate, this is a wonderful $100 phone for people looking to upgrade. For those looking to sign up for a first time contract, I'd personally suggest choosing a carrier on signal first and then taking a look at this phone if it's available. Cingular/AT&T has always had trouble in the Milwaukee area with indoor reception.

Great Phone, no complaints

Great phone... and I haven't even played with all the features yet! The zoom on the camera and video is cool and their functionality is plenty good for a phone, the ringtone (mp3) capability is great, the resolution is awesome (brightness & clarity). Send video messages, MMS, text... this phone has it all.
Haven't used the Bluetooth yet. A headset is on my grocery list.
In the phonebook, I like the fact that you can scroll side to side for multiple number listing for one person all on the same line.
Phonebook ->New Entry [menu button]
Setup ->View: Primary Contacts
It keeps the contact listing more manageable.

Pro's-
-Great screen
-Bluetooth (and will allow you to send Outlook contacts without using special software)
-Lots of memory
-Great speakerphone

Con's -
-Horrendous battery life (the sign at the -Cingular store claimed 7 hours of talk time - I am lucky if I get 2.5)
-Poor menu layout
-Painful to scoll through contact names (you can type a "3" twice to send you to the top of the "E"'s in your contact list, but then must manually scroll down to the correct name - most phones allow you to keep entering letters to accellerate the name search process)

Keypad could be improved

Dec 21, 2004 by fourwheel98

This phone looks cool. Im glad they are adding more color to the case besides all silver. The keypad could be bigger, especially the soft function keys around the up/down arrow button which are way to small and close together, unless your fingers are the size of an ant. The Sanyo phones have small keys too. The best keypad seems to be the LG models but Cingular doesnt carry an LG that has a speakerphone which I needed. Another thing I noticed is the beep the phone makes when you press a key is way too quiet even when turned up all the way (useful if you text enter text in a noisy place). This phone didnt come with many ring tones or wall paper and no games were included. Cingular might have done this on purpose to get you to download them from their website at $1.99-$2.99 per download. The phone has both picture and video. The video is not worth much since you cant record long clips without running out of memory. IMHO they could leave the video part off and just have pictures only since it is more of a toy gimmic than anything else. Ill keep this phone until something better comes out thats affordable.

Best phone I've ever had!

This is a great phone and actually the best I've ever had...I had to do a lot of research on my next phone (which is the one I have now). If you want to buy a Motorola but don't know which Model then buy this one! The reception has increased on this phone. I've always liked Motorola!...

Great phone for the money

Great phone, few cons but there are cons with every phone. Not one phone is perfect. People who this phone a are obviously to dumb to actually have a cell phone in my opinion. There are some ridiculous reviews on here. People have to high expectations for phones. I used to hate motorola wit a passion but this phone changed my mind about that. Im not gonna waste my time goin into all the pros and cons cuz obviously alot of other ppl have touched on those. I just wanted to get my opinion out about some of the unfair reviews.
