HARD TO GET DRIVERS, BUT THEY'RE OUT THERE

Jan 15, 2005 by ntab

This phone is a DRAMATIC improvement over my last 2 phones.. (a samsung N400 from sprint) and a BRAND NEW NOKIA 6820.

This phone was bought as a replacement for my 6820, simply because it sucked.

To the detractors and people taking issues with the lack of ringers and image quality..

#1. The screen on the V220 is exactly the same dimension and contrast as my Nokia 6820 (which is a 300 dollar phone!) The camera is better quality than my Nokia. If you want good camera quality, consider an LG.

#2. The lack of ringtones out of the box is indeed crappy. BUT THERE IS A CURE.. ANY mini ended USB cable will work in this phone, dont pay a bundle for one from a Motorola retailer, go to your local electronics store and buy a mini-end cable, (or use the one you're using in your digital camera or mp3 player) then just search for the driver package on google.. you're gonna want the Motorola Phone Tools and the P2K drivers.. installation is a bit wiry, but after an hour of searching and installing, i got exactly what i needed. Now I'm making MP3 ringtones for my v22o and using animated gif files as screen savers.. ITS AN AMAZING PHONE JUST FOR THE FACT THAT I DIDNT HAVE TO SPEND MONEY TO GET THESE FEATURES..

It's lightweight,

its uber-cute

the speaker is spring mounted so bass frequencies make the phone vibrate.

the sound quality is pretty standard. (like it better than my nokia, but not as much as my samsung)

havent had a poor signal yet.

in all, JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!

Not Pleased with the Motorola V220

Jan 8, 2005 by me n ms

I got two of the Motorola V220s when I recently signed up with Cingular. I had to return them because many of my calls were getting dropped, and for the ones that didn't, I could barely hear the person I was talking to. At first, I was afraid that perhaps it was the area I lived in that had poor signal. However, after returning these and getting two Nokia 3120s, I see that my location (Mississippi) wasn't necessarily the issue: it was the phone(s). In addition to the dropped calls, the V220 just wasn't loud enough: Receiver nor speakerphone, and there were only a couple of ringtones that were loud enough to be heard above normal road noise. Also, there was a buzzing sound when using the speakerphone. Who knows? Perhaps I got 2 lemons. My hubby has the Motorola V180 World Phone and it is very loud and clear, with no obvious signal/reception problems. He is very pleased with the V180. The Nokia 3120s I now use are like the difference in day & night compared to the V220s.

A Bit Misleading

Jan 2, 2005 by Maxxnme2004

The phone capabilities as stated by the manufacturer as well as other web sites, are at best, a bit misleading.
First of all.....there is no application in my V220 for video, much less video clips.
Secondly, the only way to download mp3 or polyphonics or monophonics or graphics or ringtones is through the phone itself and the Cingular correspopnding phone based websites. This means: you cannot hear the sounds nor see the graphics until AFTER you've completed the downloads and have been charged for them.
Apparently, the websites indicate that the V220 is not compatible to accepting their downloads.
Again, all very misleading.

What a Joke!

I pay for three phone lines on my account each with a different OLD Nokia phone. They all rock compared to this crap we'd been sent by Cingular as a free offering. Where do I begin? Hmmmm, :

1- Sound is horrible. My old one I can hear clear across my apartment whereas this one just isn't loud enough!
2- Even speaking with someone it sounds horrible compared to our old ones.
3- I decided to dabble with their Media Net access and found that I'd have to pay ridiculous prices just to add to the very few ringtones and other items found within the phones' memory.
4- What's the sense of having a camera if you can't connect upload the photos to anyplace (of course it's offered but for yet another ridiculous price!)
5-and so on, and so on, and so on.....

I'm returning mine and would suggest the same to anyone who's re-upped for a 2 year contract! Bad Cingular, very baddddd!

Nothing to Complain about

I work for Cingular Wireless and got this phone through Rogers about 4 months ago. The reception on this phone is excellent, especially since Fido and Rogers merged. The camera isnt the best, but I dont expect too much from it. I bought a phone for $125, if I was looking for a good camera, I would have spent more than tripple that amount, plus then it would only function as a camera. I think this phone is a great deal for the price. The only real complaint I have about this phone is that the speaker/sound lacks volume and clarity. I used to have a Nokia 3586i, and people speaking to me were much easier to hear than on my V220.
I am already considering a Motorola V551, but would recommend this phone to any entry level user.

Nice Phone BUT.......

Its a good phone for starters. It has some good features but the camera sucks. Compared to some other phones the camera is nothing and I think its so because of the screen size.

Pros: Its Main features

Cons: Camera
Screen Size

***Only get it if you are a starter with a phone not if you have experience with phones.

I love it!

I was working for Rogers for the Christmas season and they gave me this phone as a demo line to use for the month. Well I'm done there in about a week and I now have my very own V220. I got one for me my boyfriend and my two sisters. I like the MP3 ringtones the camera worked well for me. Of course you can't expect digital camera quality but the pictures do turn out very well. Over all the signal has been good. I was able to us it in my university elevator and the university is a trouble spot usally. The only problem I have had and have heard from several ppl is that sometimes when doing something the display blinks off then goes back to the main menu. Not a huge issue just a minor annoyance. Overall I would recommend this phone

big disappointment

I've had this phone for about 2 days and, tomorrow I will be sending it back to Cingular. I won't really list pros and cons because they kind of cancel each other out, Ex. loud ringtones but if the phone is laid down on something soft it's hard to hear them. Like I said I've only had it for about 2 days and the flip feels like it is going to fall off. The two things I do like about the phone are: the voice tones are really clear, and I live in Cheyenne, WY a place where a few Cingular reps said they don't have any service and just about everywhere I go I get fairly decent reception. The phone was free w/2 yr. contract but even if it is free I wouldn't recommend to anybody.

decent phone for the price

This phone sucks!!! This is the second one my daughter has had within 5 months. The first time the phone froze and went all black on the screen. The second time was the same thing. It's a good thing we had insurance on this phone!! The screen is also to small and the pictures are not very clear.
