2.5mm headphones

I'm not planning on buying the music essentials pack, but still want headphones. Is there a good site for either 2.5mm headphones or an adaptor? I don't want the big over-the-head kinds, which is what I've seen some sites only having.

there is a complication with using standard 2.5mm plug headphones. The jack on the adapter is not a stereo only jack, it is also a mic jack.
If you look at it, a stereo headset/mic plug has three sections mic (nearest the tip I think) and the usual left and right channel rings.
The effect is that the location of the stereo channels is moved back one step on the plug. I bought an 3/32(2.4mm) to 1/8(3.5mm) adapter at Radio Shack and found this out the hard way. In order to get stereo I have to pull the plug out one click to align the speaker section of the plug correctly. It makes the connection weak and subject to losing a channel when jostled.
My solution is going to be to either graft a better set or earplugs onto the stock stereo ...

Hmm...sounds complicated. So, is shelling out $30 for the music essentials pack the only way? Seems hard to believe I can't find just 2.5mm headphones or a 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter somewhere else 😕

I googled "2.5mm headphones" and I think I have found several other solutions.
1)Looks like adapters are made for PDA's and Pocket PC's that will do the job. SOme even include a mic or answer call function.
2) there are some headphones made for PDA's that have 2.5mm plugs. I don't know what type of sound quality they deliver. I have been spoiled by my Shure earplugs and don't want to revert to a lesser pair unless I have to.

This place has some items that look like they might do the job.

I saw another adapter that included the mic here:

Let us know if you find anything that works.

The MEK kit includes headphones. Not the best ones but they do work with no adapter issues.

they are cheap little foam covered earbuds, I hate them also. I usually use a set of Shure E2c with my iPod, but I have yet to get them to work with the choco. The whole experience has pretty much ruined the hope for using the choco as a iPod-lite.
VZW lists an 2.5 to 3.5 adapter on their accessory list but I haven't seen one in real life

I purchased the 2.5 to 3.5 adapter from Verizon and for 14 bucks it solved my headset issue. Now I can use any headset from walmart that has a 3.5 jack. the adapter has a Mic built in, a call send / end button and volume control. I found that the Sony headsets sound the best. Hope this helps.

Oh, I forgot to say that even if you get a better set of headphones to work, the phone can't drive them well anyway and you don't get much volume. I have tried Shure e2c and Sony ex71 earplugs and there just isn't quite enough power.

I my self went to radio shack and got the adapter but, I got it so I can hear the music in my car...Thanks for the tip on pulling out the jack...when I do that, anytime the thing moves it trys to call someone. I have the music essentials kit and the head phones work great.

I myself might try to modify the adapter to make it work in stereo. If aneone has any tips please comment.

Is the adapter from the music essentials kit like the ones on ebay?

Or if I wanted to buy the headphones from the music essentials kit, could I buy them seperately by themselves? Thanks.

No, The kit has a headset that plugs in like the charger....and it comes with the software and the USB cable.

That was 30 bucks. I thought it was a deal becasue the headsets that are made for this phone with the true adapter are the same price.

From PC Mag:

"Budget $15 for a 3.5mm adapter with a built-in mic to let you use your own music-player headphones,"

Same thing, but seperate I assume?

sounds like the same functions as the Verizon piece. I posted a link to something like that in this thread somewhere.

Ok, let me get some things straight. Sorry if they are obvious:

Standard 2.5mm headphones do not work well, because you have to pull it out a click which is unstable.

2.5mm headphones with mics do work, as adapters with mic support. I'm assuming adapters without mic support do not work well.

Thanks for the help so far, it's appreciated.

No they have the same connector that fits the phone like the charger...you would have to get a special adapter....but for....spending 15 on an adapter and another 15-20 on a head set you can just get the kit for 30.

I think that there are adapters that will work fine with and without mic, the issue is that the plug layout on the input end (male) must be designed to fit a jack with microphone.
As far as I can know you can tell this by whether the plugs has two or three painted rings on it. Standard stereo plugs without a mic only have two rings, the plugs with mics have three rings. If you look at a stereo plug you will see what I mean.

To get a pair of stereo headphones to work with the jack on my chocolate I think I will need this adapter. I ordered one already if you want to wait I will let you know what works for me. I actually ordered two different adapters, one with and one without a mic. I hope that at least one will work.

Thanks for that reply. I think I'll go with the Verizon earphones online; they have an inline mic which should definately work. $14.99 is pretty good, especially with free shipping which pretty much makes it $9.99 for earphones guarenteed to work.

the Verizon setup sounds ok. I don't like that style of phones but I have been trying to give them a chance. If I don't try to use it like my iPod I can live with them. The advantage of not having to use a pair of adapters makes them easy to carry. If they had an output that I could use in my truck I would probably stick with them also. The included mic channel and call answer switch is handy, I always miss calls when using my iPod.

Enjoy your chocolate!

the chocolate does not have a 2.5mm headset jack. it has a completely different plug than any other phone currently available. the verizon music essentials kit is the only place to get a stereo headset that plugs directly into the phone(so far) and at 29.99 including the usb cable is not a bad deal at all.

the chocolate does come with an adapter from their proprietary plug to a 2.5mm 4 contact plug. 4 contacts are left, right, mic, and ground. to plug in a standard stereo headset (3 contact or TRS 1/8th inch like on an ipod) you need to use the included adapter and another adapter. verizon sells one for 14.99 which works fine. you can find it online for 10 but it's easier to get it from vzw and have the one year warranty.
