only questions that really matter:
particularly regarding Verizon's version:
can I copy MP3's onto the flash card using standard windows/linux software, plug the flash card into the phone and listen to the mp3's and use them as ringtones?
or do I have to pay money to verizon every time I want to put a song on this phone/buy an extra cost service/software package.
what about images?
is the pc-phone cable a standard USB cable?
can I transfer music/picture files from pc-phone (and back) over bluetooth?
what about the address book? do I have to buy a $150 "business pack" to edit/sync with my PC?
unless and until I can do these things, this phone/camera/mp3player is useless to me as a convergence device because I am unwilling to pay verizon an incremental vig...

you cannot use songs on card as ringtone. You can however download a cutter and cut 30sec clips under 350kb and send them to the phone through messaging and save sound file as a ringtone. When bitpim updates their software i am sure you can use a cable to do this as well. Images work the same way, or you can pull images off of card and set as walpaper. Not sure if the cable is standard, guessing it is but i don't get mine till later today. You need to use the cable to transfer files, can't use bluetooth for this. What the heck are you talking about $150 for a business pack? You can use back up assistant for 1.99 for your contacts or usb cable and software such as bitpim for contacts and calender. last time I bought a phone from verizon (cdm-9900, which I still have and LOVE, except...), they wanted $150 for the "business pack" or whatever they called it that included a data cable and software that allowed you to sync your address book and PIM info from outlook (which also forced you to use that garbage outlook)(I could get it online for about $60 a year later)
the only way to get ringtones was you could email yourself midi files for .25 and email or buy them from "get it now" for $$$$
the only way to get pix on or off the phone was email at .25 a pop
none of this was inherent to the phone as the same phone from other wireless companies allowed you to do all these things + mp3 ringtones for free (modulo buying the data cable...

gonar, I totally agree with you about not having to pay to use your own stuff. I've been syncing mp3's (ripped from CD's) with WMP 10 to my PDA for awhile. I don't see why I shouldn't be able to do the same with this Chocolate. Or, just plug in the flash card and copy files over that way. I already have software to edit mp3's for use as ringtones and plenty of extra USB cables. I'm just wondering... is the Music Essentials Kit really essential?
