Batt savings-EVDO on/off?

CaptJeff

Has anyone done any testing on how long the battery lasts with EVDO on vs off, in a given similar situation?
(Ie with 150 minutes talk time, 15 hrs stby vs 6....)
It's a 1 minute deal to lock it off and then back on, so it's not a big deal.
Is EVDO used for text messaging when available?
I don't see other disadvantages to locking out EVDO other than no VCAST, (which is slow anyway!)
Thanks.

My experience is similar to his/her situation. If I'm in-range the battery life is excellent. However, if the phone is always hunting for a signal then I might be charging the phone everyday.

Pete,
I already commented to that one! I was looking for some #'s if anyone has any on how much of an improvement comes by locking out EVDO.
I will give a test Monday, as I will be in an area that has very little coverage, and from 10am to 1pm, half of my battery has been gobbled up with EVDO active.

I am new to the forum and just got a new razr v3m. How does one switch on/off the EVDO? I am having the same problem with the battery life. Hope it gets better by recycling. Meanwhile any tricks to prolong its life will be appreciated. Thanks.

I live in a fringe area for EV/1X service. My phone will barely make it through the day with little use while searching for the EV network. Once I locked out the EV and only allow the phone to lock onto the 1X signal, the phone can go 2-3 days with moderate to heavy use before needing a charge.

Go to hacktherazr.com to find out information on how to lock out EV. It's very simple but you just run a very high risk of truly screwing up your phone.
