Updates will be released regularly. To get the latest version of the CU500 software go here:

and enter in your phone number. I believe you need to be signed up for Cingular Online and have the CU500 set as your current phone. Once you enter in your phone number, accept the terms and conditions and make sure your phone is powered on. You should recieve a message asking if you would like to update. Agree, and the update take about a minute to download (on 3G, probably longer on EDGE). Then your phone will power cycle and the installation takes about 5 minutes.

It just fixes some bugs in the software, mainly with 3G to EDGE handoff. No, it will not wipe ANY information.

Check your software version in SETTINGS>HANDSET INFORMATION>SOFTWARE VERSION
The latest version that is up is V10c. If you have that then it will not send you an update.
