LG CU500
TURNED OFF 3G, BACK TO GSM
At last, I went back to Cingular and de-activated 3G. They gave me free SIM card that was re-programmed to GSM. I no longer have $19.99 media net because no more high speed internet without 3G.
My battery life is now about 5 hours talk. Recharge every other day. Believe it or not, the sound quality is better. No more asending & decending volume during calls. The 3G signal indicator is still on, but my phone only receives GSM signals.
Do miss the high speed internet though ☹️
press 277634#*#
then go through the menu:
5. modem setting
2. network mode
1. network mode
2. 2g only
thats to change it from 3g to 2g.. to change back simply but it on dual mode
can any1 try this for me and sees if it works and maybe better quality calls..? i dont have my phone right now cause im in Aruba 😎 but im really interested to know.
This is a great feature since my house is in a weak 3G area (in Washington, DC). I kept dropping calls in my own house and around my own neighborhood. I'm just going to keep it in 2G mode and switch to 3G when I want to use high-speed data, which is only every now and then.

Also, it seems that usability is a problem with the Chocolate (see quote below from NYT). The CU500 has issues, but it seems the Chocolate is worse:
"Whenever I review a product this badly designed, I just stare at the ceiling and try to imagine how it could possibly have gotten out the door. Haven’t successes like the iPod and the Treo taught the marketers anything about making things work simply and well? It’s stunning that nobody in a position of power at LG or Verizon actually tried this thing, tried pressing those infernal passive-aggressive buttons, and realized that the Chocolate is a usability disaster."
