Question about the CU500 and 3G

I am getting a CU500 from the Cingular Exchange department and had a question regarding its connection to the 3G network. I live in Phoenix and according to Cingular's map, my region is setup for 3G. I will be using my old sim card with this phone and am curious if I can still connect to the 3G network and take advantage of all of its features? I checked my sim and its the 64k Smartcard but is not the newest sim. My old sim will be from my RAZR that is 1 year old.

I suspect that it will not work on the 3G network.

My SIM card has 64K written on the back, and 3G on the front (where the contacts are). If you have the same, it is likely that it will work.

In any case, if it doesn't work, go to a Cingular store and ask for a 3G SIM card, they should be able to copy yours onto a new one...

The 3G sim card will be white with an orange stripe in the middle. the top of the card will have the sim # in grey, the middle orange strip will say 64k smart chip, the bottom will have the Cingular logo and cingular will be in blue. You will need the 64k sim for 3G to work.

I highly suggest that if you change to the 3G sim card you also get one of the unlimited MEdia packages. I think a 2 minute download will be equal to about $20 dollars.

If you go to a company owned store you should not be charged for a 3G sim as cingular wants you to have that card for the phone to work properly.

That's awkward, Exchange by mail should of given you a new sim card if they were going to give you a CU500. Your old 64k will work but it's not going to give you the speed that the new 3g would. So you're better off going to a Cingular store and getting yourself a new sim. They are at $24.99

How do you like the phone so far?

Thanks for the reply.

I am torn on the phone at the moment. I just recieved it and made some test calls. There is an extreme volume fluctuation on every call making it impossible to hear the other person. They are either too low in volume or way to high. I am stil digging in to see what the issue is.
