Using LG CU500 in non-3G area?

It has been a while since I posted anything, but I'm thinking of upgrading one of my lines to the LG CU500, but I'm just outside the current 3G coverage area in the SF Bay Area. According to the coverage map, I'm only 15-20 minutes away from 3G, but I do have Edge available and of course GPRS.

My question is, will I have any problems using this phone (voice calling and medianet) in the Edge enabled network? Cingular Video and MobiTV aren't big factors for me right now and I don't mind having the phone now and using these extra services after my area is integrated. Basically, I'd like to hear from LG CU500 owners in an Edge/non-3G covered area.

I have no problems, and Cingular video actually works over EDGE, as well as mobiRadio. I don't know if I have a mobiTV free trial, so I haven't checked it out.

As far as I know to get the $50 rebate, you will have to get the MediaNet unlimited package ($19.99) regardless of whether you are in 3G area or not.

But, most people say that they don't even experience a delay and I'm sure that is because Cingular is working to integrate more areas and expand the ones that are already running.

So, I bought one online tonight and upgraded my line!! Now, here's my next question- Cingular recently had me upgrade my 32K SIM Card for a new 64K SIM Card about 2 weeks ago. I'm sure that my new phone will arrive with another SIM. Will I need to upgrade to this SIM as well to access all the ...

I was told by cingular that I needed a new SIM for the 3G network. May have been BS, don't know. But I didn't care because I had a brand new SIM - they made me get one when I went from my old AT&T phone to a Cingy BB.

I have the phone with a 32k SIM card in syracuse, NY. all the features work great on the EDGE network. i heard about the 3G capabilities requiring the 64k SIM card, so i had cingular ship me one. i really have no use for 3G until i goto NYC in a few weeks. ill post how everything turns out, but right now in the EDGE network my LG CU500 works perfect.
