vx-8300 reception question

Does anyone know why this happens or is it only my phone that is doing this. Ok right now my reception is at the EV 1X full level, but when i make a call and connects it switches to 1X mode. Is there a reason for that. Can anyone explain. Thanks

The phone (to save battery life) temporally disables EV-DO while you are on a call. You can turn 1X or EV-DO off completely via the secret menu. If you want I or someone else can post.

That is normal though.

SECRET MENU hmm really, so does that mean i can just go to analog mode for a time being if i turn it off, that would of helped yesterday since in the elk grove area something was wrong with the network and kept showing that i am roaming, cant recieve calls or texts,
but yeah what other functions are in the secret menu,
can you let me know how to get there please,
thanks again

Not on a digital only phone.

Press the following to enable 1X and/or EV-DO

OK , 0 , 000000 , Network Select , Mode Preference , choose "1X only" to enable 1x only and disable ev-do, choose "Digital Only Hybrid" for BOTH ev-do & 1X enabled (set to this by default). Choose "HDR only", to enable EV-DO ONLY disabled 1X. Then press END to finish.
