mms

i noticed this phone has txt, mms and outlook as messaging choices. My question is this, if i have a pix plan on this device and the pay per use data package can i send pix and flix messages without getting kb charges through mms? I know on the 6700 and other pda's it would charge you per kb when sending a pix because you had to use the email to do it, but i don't beleive those other products have mms on them.

First and formost you WILL Have to have a DATA PLAN to use this device with Verizon Wireless just as there Black Berry devices require it. Then you will use KB each time you send a pic a pic's plan wil be needed if you send the message via mms but won't be for email pics. Sounds crappy I know but that's how Verizon rolls. ☹️

MMS stands for Multimedia Messages such as pictures, gifs, videos and audio files.

NO YOU DON'T!
yeah the sales rep in the store might tell you that but there is a pay per kb package available for pda/smartphones. Most of these phones don't have plain mms. So when you would send a pic it would have to be done through the email not the mms. now the q specifically has text, email, or mms. So it seems to have separated and thus might have fixed the issue. I know for 100% certainty that you can put a pda on plans without put a data package, anyone who tells you otherwise is just following store policy or keeping an eye on their data sales percentages for commissions. Some stores require this because they take the stance that the customer is not smart enough to keep track of this themselves.

I am sorry to be the one to delivery such devastating news to you "yeahright" but it is the truth. I work at this company and have activated more of these phones then you can imagine. Just like all of our Black Berry phones you MUST have a data plan on the equipment. You are correct in saying that you don't need a data plan for PDA devices like the 700w/p, 6700/6600, i730/i830 and ofcourse 600/650 treos but I promise you this you HAVE TO get either the $24.99 for 10MB or the $44.99 for ULM to activate this phone on our network.
Now as for the mms you will use kb's for every message and will be charged for a mms message ie 25 cents each. So like I said you will have to have a data plan and a pics plan to send mms messages of anykind witho...

ok so how come i just got my phone with the pay per kb option. I work for an authorized retailer and I know that you don't have to have one of the data packages on it to use the phone. It's just like with Pix/flix messaging on any other phone in that you either have to select a plan or a the pay per message.

Ok after seeing this post I had to call our data center to find out exactly what the deal is with a data plan on the Q.

This is the way it works, you are correct you DO NOT need a data plan on the Q so for that I am sorry I miss informed anyone. Only the Black Berry devices must have them but in any retail store the device can not be activated without a data plan, just a system glitch, but once activated they just move you to a pay as you go status.

As for the pics charges the system use to charge you both KB and pics charges anyone who has seen a bill with crazy overage in the KB section can vouch for that. But that has been corrected as well so you need only to have a pics package to use mms.

Again sorry all for the miss informa...

ok, that is more like it, i already new you could activate it with a pay per use, i appreciate you finding the correct info. So eventhough it has a seperate mms section in the messaging the billing system will still slap you kb's for pix! that sucks and that is what i needed to know.

I did not read the other replies and let me say this, verizon store reps dont know their you know what from their you know what. IF you are on a pay per KB plan and have IN- messaging, then you WILL NOT be charged as long as the messages are sent to another verizon phone. I have sent several in the past few days. I have checked my KB usage (#3282) and show that I have used zero!!! Now if I surf the web, then of course I will be charged for KB usage or if i send pics to a non VZ customer. Keep in mind that if you don't have IN- msg, then you will be charged for MMS msg's.

I really appreciate you clearing that all up for us though I dont' appreciate what you are saying about us verizon reps. That is not very considerate to clump us all together like that. Some of us actually do know what we are talking about. So before you go insulting all of us do your research.

I agree, no need to rag on all of us who actually do know what's going on. Leather nuts....you're almost correct on your post. if you do have the unlimited txt messaging normal rules and overrage rates apply, with the exception of pix/flix messaging. since the q is a smart phone when you send either a pix or flix it will connect to the web to send your photo or video. so if you have the pay as you go, you will be billed for these messages regardless of whether or not you have a txt/pix/flix package.

we haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but we're under the impression if you put a data block on the phone, which would mean no ability to connect to the network, no chance of a charge, you would not be able to send pix/flix messages...

Here we ago about one rep saying one thing and another saying the other. I have sent several pic messages and my history says no KB usage. Explain that one since you are the professional and I apparently have not done my research 👀

I also asked them right now about this and she said that you would still be able to.

I appologize to you, but this really is my experience. I have 3 accounts, 15 phones and deal with them all the time. Thats where my research is from- experiences. Maybe its just the reps in my area, but they always seem to contradict what the other is saying. One says you can, while the other says you can't. Then you tell them, and they respond, "oh well, I'm really not sure, I'll have to find out, but I thought...." Don't answer the question unless you know the answer!!!!

BTW I'm not answering a question I don't know the answer to. If you noticed I am speaking from personal experience on this one. I do have some respect for what you're saying in that I have called verizon corporate (i'm an authorized retailer) and had some contradictory answers.

I just got off the phone with Verizon again. She told me like the last rep from last week that there will be no charge. She said my bill may show some data usage, but if it was from pix messaging, then I'm alright. Again, two reps on this site are saying the opposite and thats why I said what I said. All four are with VZ, but IM getting two different stories. 🤨 ?

Ok let me answer all of this nonsense. It is absolutely possible to purchase one of these phones with the pay as you go feature after purchase. Vzw only suggests that you add the unlimited data feature to avoid massive data charges. When a phone is activated on pay as you go data (.015/kb) any picture message or mms you use on the phone will cost extra average mms size is 60-90 kb when you do the math your paying about three dollars a picture and there is no way to avoid this when on pay as you go. Anyone that tells you different has never seen a vzw bill for $2500 because some idiot says "oh I only looked at like two webpages and 100 emails" THEY ARE LYING. Everyone wants the full features of the phone and network but they arent willin...

I think what people want to know is if they send pix only to another VZ customer or receive one and have the unlimited In text/ pix messaging service, will they also be charged KB's? I show 505kb which is from sending pix only for this month. I called VZ and they said there would be no charge since I have the unlimited pix service. They said KB charges are for only things like email and web browsing.

Ok look, I like the phone, have absolutely no need of a data package, i like the planner and calender but mainly the freedom and form factor. Full keyboard and all that jazz. I use text and picture messaging all the time. The phone has text, email, mms when you go into messaging. I know for a fact you can do pay per kb, yes i understand what risk you run but you can also go into the phones settings and tweak some stuff to limit your risk of it auto dialing on you. Blah blah blah. If i send a picture will i get billed kb's??????????? I have heard about every answer in the book here so please only answer if you know for sure and don't base your knowledge off of experience of previous pda models, most of them don't have a dedicated mms option. ...
