I ordered a Motorola Q last Wednesday; it was promised for Friday. Showed up Monday. Opened the box and the unit was damaged (it had been dropped) but it dialed calls and surfed the net. I took it to a VZ store and exchanged it for an undamaged phone. Got it home and - discovered the new phone won't surf the net. Called data tech support; after 30 minutes on hold with the rep she finally tells me there is a KNOWN ISSUE with the Q and the Verizon system; that they have had a number of calls about this problem. She has to "escalate the ticket" and it will take 24 to 48 hours before I hear back from them. Great; another 1 or 2 days wait to see if the thing even works...

I am a Cingular customer and got this phone because of the Q. So far I h...

What of it

Internet explorer works Awesome on the Q. IF you do not add the correct broadband features then this feature will not work properly. The basic data package is not enough. If you try to activate the Q without the required data package then it will not work. After you get it activated make sure you check the internet B4 you leave the VZW store.

actually this problem is very simple to fix. i had the exact same issues with getting on the net. "login error"

last night i called up vzw and they new about the issue. they had to connect me with the top of the chain tech. forgot the name.
they had to change some settings on their side. nothing you can do on the phone and nothing to do with the plan you have. after about 10 min. on hold the rep came back and told me to hit *22899. that is differnet then just hitting *228. with the 99 it sends a complete reprogram to your phone not just some resets it does with *228.
after that i had to power the phone down and take out the battery which for the q is how you reset it.
powered back on and internet, mail, etc works great.

Dialing *228 and hitting option 1 is the exact same as dialing *22899. The 99 only selects 1 for you, this is used for air cards mainly, but works well on cell/pda devices. Dialing either does the exact same programming, *22899 is just automated for air cards. Dialing *228 Option 2 is the same as dialing *22890.

This is why the Q did not work, the store failed to correctly change the ESN over. They should have had you remove the battery from your old device before making any billing changes. Once the battery is removed, then change the ESN to the new device. Wait 10 minutes for the system to update, them turn on the new phone and MAKE SURE it works at the store. If it does not, them make them fix it, re-do the ESN change and try again. Th...

"you may be correct, i was just repeating what happened to me and what i was told."

I AM correct, whom ever told you was wrong. Dailing *22899 is the same as *228 opt 1.

You are definitely right about making sure it works before you leave. The VZ issue is that they are having difficulties adding features to accounts tied to a Q. If the phone only has a basic data package they can't seem to add the necessary features after setup.

Makes you wonder how they missed that during testing. I am going to the VZ store this morning and make them exchange it again for one that works with both phone and data!

were you allowed to exchange it? I ask because from what i understand they just have to change something in their system and reset your phone with the new settings.

i am wondering because that is what they did to mine and it is working great i used it all day today after going through it with them last night. but if that is not the only problem i would exchange mine.
