Any differnce between models?

As I've been waiting for Cingular to release this phone, I've noticed that it comes in several different forms (not just model names, but case design)?

The QTEK 9100 comes in a slightly larger, plastic case than the metal case of the I-mate K-Jam (according to a geek.com review) and the Cingular 8125 looks competely different from those two.

All appear to have the same set of features from a functionality standpoint and are all manufactured by HTC. A previous review noted that Cingular doesn't release phones until most of the bugs are worked out.

Has anyone heard of differences in performance between models of this phone? Is one an older generation that doesn't work as well? Am I better off waiting for a more refined model from C...

Actually the various models are virtually the same size, with the same specs. Just slight diff's in case design. From all reports I've read, Cingular's version should be the slickist. Of course this HTC mfg. phone has been out for awhile as imate K-jam & Qtek 9100, so some of the minor imperfections should be ironed out with the Cingular branded version. 8100 without Camera & 8125 with, same price. Suppose to be $299 after rebate with two year contract. Available mid Janusry. 😎

I've been fighting the urge to buy the K-jam and QTEK before the Cingular version comes out. Reviews have been saying it would be out in October...then November...then December...I'll probably give it until the end of January. Thanks.

I have read all reviews on this phone and like it. I was wondering if this is basically the same phone as the HTC Apache 6700. It appears to have the same features and functionality. Is the 8125 an improved 6700? Is there a comparison review on these two phones? I saw the Verizon Wireless XV6700 yesterday and was concerned about the size and brightness of the screen. How does the screen size, resolution and brightness compare to these two phones? Has anyone used both the 6700 and the 8125 and would like to comment about the performance between models of this phone?

This is an expensive phone that I could use for work. Just would like to make an informed purchase this time.

Am I better off waiting for the 8125 from Cingular?

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I feel that you should ignore what Verizon has to say. They consistently offer the worst phones on the market, and when they do offer a decent phone, they screw their customers by withholding features.

I went for the XV6700 from Verizon...and overall I am happy with my decision. I've been with Cingular/PacBell Wireless since my bag phone (for those that remember what those are) and just got tired of Cingular being the last to release new technology. I need mobile internet and mobile email for my job and couldn't wait any longer (been waiting for Mpx300, Nokia 9300, 8125, 3G, etc.)

I've never seen an 8125, but the XV6700 does what it says it will do. I'm fairly tech savvy, but not an expert.
Pros:
-WiFi was easy to use...I was on my home network in less than 10 secs.
-Screen is sharp and bright
-EVDO internet speeds are amazing.
-Email set up was the same as my Mpx220 (although I can't seem to send email...couldn't do it with Cin...

As far as I know, the only difference between the various incarnations of the HTC Wizard is that the i-mate k-jam comes with 802.11g mode enabled out of the box.

Other models such as the original Qtek 9100, T-Mobile MDA Vario (etc.) come with only 802.11b mode enabled which means you'd need to manually load up a registry editor (like Total Commander CE) and enable it by adding DWORD "dot11SupportedRateMaskG" with DECIMAL value "8" to \HKLM\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms\

I don't know if this is the case with HTC Apache but if you can't connect to a G-Only Wifi network, give the registry hack above a try.

Hope this helps

My Qtek 9100 came with 802.11g out of the box. It wasn't until I installed the latest ROM that I lost the 802.11g and had to enable it through the registry (which was extremely easy).
