It's not the battery, it's the device. If you look at the specs for the battery, the GSM battery is 680 mAh and the CDMA is 740 mAh. From what I understand it's the EVDO that causes the battery to drain faster.

Also the difference lies in the technology difference. GSM phones ping the towers much less frequently than CDMA and this allows them to have better battery times.

another observation, it seems that on average gsm based phones are smaller and lighter than the cdma selection. i wonder if this has anything to do w/ their longer battery lives.

if you dont use the evdo i might know a way for you to turn it off and get better battery life. i dont know if this works for all verizon phones or not but i have the lg vx8000 and if you go to the main menu and then press 0000000 it should bring you to a "secret menu". then go to network select...then mode preference...then 1x only. this will only use the one band and the power going to support evdo will now be stored...just so you know if you go back to the evdo settings you wont be able to receive txts or calls so keep this in mind.

This has to do with the design and makers of the chips in the phones. GSM chips are smaller than CDMA chips due to technology differences. Also CDMA chips are made by only one company Qualcomm, where as GSM chips are made by a few companies creating a highly competitive market and a need to create better and smaller chips. Like I said before the technology is why GSM batteries last longer not the size of the phones.
