RAZR problems to watch for.

OK this is concerning me - so far I have heard of a number of problems with this and wonder if they are going to be fixed or not.
Low battery life-
It has a small battery so it is not going to last as long as a 1000milap battery no matter what you do but leaving BlueTooth on if you are not using it will significantly affect charge life. I have heard that one of the advanced network features drains life as it is always checking online for updates or such is this that EVO thing? Is an extra sized battery possible or available?

Buzz in speaker. Lots of people say they hear a buzz after making a call. whats with that?

Loose top panel. I have heard that the top faceplate gets loose and can stick out. apparently there was anot...

Battery life seems to not be an issue just yet for me. However, I have noticed the phone quickly moves from 4 bars to 3 bars within 15 minutes of using the phone. Then after this it appears move slowly from 3 to 2 bars. I have not let the phone run down to 1 bar or low battery yet. That will be the next test.

The buzz in the speaker is from the backlight. If you hold the phone to your ear while the backlight is on you will hear a high pitched squeel. When the backlight times out the high pitched squeel will drop to a lower volume squeel. When the screen saver kicks in the noise will go away completely. I don't think this is anything to worry about.

I have noticed on 2 RAZR phones out of three the top panel is loose.

So far I h...

I have the GSM version, and mine does the same thing, it is more than likely do to the OEL backlight rather than using LEDs Moto decided to use OEL because it is more efficient. The chemicals used in this type of lighting have to be agitated by rapidly changing the charge applied to them, this is why you hear this queal when the keypad light is on and it goes away when it goes off. All of the RAZRs do this and there is nothing to worry about at all.

Interesting. Do you mean OLED display?
I think people who have more acute hearing will be the ones more bothered by this.
Some won't even notice it.

OLED, OEL, same difference Organic light emmitting diodes vs. Organic Electro Luminescence, I think that OEL fits the name better just because its not individual diodes but an entire surface under the keypad. It is a technology developed from certain oceanic protists that are able to emit light when an electrical field is present.

So far I have found the RAZR to be a high quality phone and can overlook these two issues.

I looked at one the other day and was impressed. I did not notice any loosenes of the top panel although I felt there was more flex in the middle then there should have been.

Same here with the touch/number pad. It's loose and makes an annoying sound when using the upper buttons. Seems like an easy thing to get right when so much other engineering was put into this phone.

Thanks to Motorola for the photo-sensing number pad light control. Unless the blue backlight is on I can't even read the letters on the number pad because of the color contrast against the shiny metal - which ALWAYS catches glare. I'm looking into disabling this feature.

So far the only thing I really like about it is the big, bright screen and carrying it in my pocket. I forget it's even there. But, there is much to be desired for ergonomics and usability. I guess that's the sacrifice for a slim design. I may return it for an LG...
