i have had the 8100 since the begining of october and have loved the phone... the conly complaints i have are that it feels very bulky in my pockets, cant use sounds as ringtones, you cant use the speaker phone closed and the earpiece volume. now i was at a party and i noticed my friend had the samsung counterpart and it seemed WAY thinner... i put it im my pocket and i couldnt even notice it was there. so i was talking to him about it and he said he could use his sounds as ringtones... this pissed me off knowin that i can not... to make matters worse, he said he could use the speaker with the phone closed! now- are there any things better about the 8100 than the samsung 950 that should keep me from switching... thanks 4 your help guys

I was one of those users who heavily debated between the LG-8100 and the Samsung 950. I'm going to save you the suspense and tell you right now that I ended up going with the 950, but I'm going to tell you the differences that I found between the phones. Also, for the record, until a month and a half ago, I worked for Verizon Wireless and I did use the 8100 for 2 weeks, so I consider myself a credible source regarding the phones.

Some of the differences between the phones, in addition to the ones you've mentioned, include use of the front LCD and video capabilities. The 8100 has a slightly clearer front LCD and utilizes it accordingly. While you can view missed calls and text messages on the front of the 8100, you cannot on the 950. I te...

COOL Dude! 😎 , I am still debating between the 950 and 970, what do you think? 😕 I heard the 970 is a 2mp camera. One other think I used to own a motorola v710, that phone used mem card but one special feat. that I loved was that I could've set an mp3 song as a ringtone!...can you do that with the samsung? 😕

Unfortunately, no, you cannot set mp3s as the ringtone.

This reminds me of one other difference between the two phones, however. The 950 is capable of recording voice or other sounds of your choosing, and setting those as the ringtone or alert sounds. So as long as you don't mind sitting your phone next to a speaker and recording the song you want to play as your ringtone, you can assign actual songs to various sounds on the phone.

You CAN make MP3s as ringtones, I have. Just follow this link for the instructions.

I've had both phones and the sound quality on each phone had issues.

My 8100 had the volume problem and I switched it with 3 8100's, all of them had the issue.

My a950 had a problem where the noise would cut in and out, supposedly due to their noise cancellation hardware/software. I exchanged it twice and both of them had the problem.

If i'm one of the unlucky ones. They still shouldn't have any phones that show these type of problems.

In my opinion phones aren't being built to be used as phones anymore. They're more of a multimedia unit where you can watch videos and play music and show off to your friends/co-workers.
