I just got my Samsung A950 today and was using the Vcast feature and browsing through Get it now. I noticed that the phone got extremely warm (almost hot to the touch) but cooled down very quickly when I stopped using those services. Anyone else experience this??

That's perfectly normal with all phones.

These features take a lot of cpu power. This means a great deal more current is drawn from the battery and a more current also means more losses (which show up as heat).

Any electronic system gets warmer as it draws more current.

I would have to respectively disagree with the previous two postings. For some reason, Samsung phones (the ones I've owned in the past) did get very hot when I use it. And those phones did not have VCAST or all the bells and whistles today.

Samsungs are the only phones that I know get very hot after using for about 10-15 minutes.....

I think that just made my decision easier. I'm going with the LG VX8100.......

The phone only gets warm ONLY when using VCAST. The reason for that is very simple. For some reason, the phone's keypad stays illuminated the entire time it is in VCAST. That along with the screen being illuminated casuse the phone to get warm. The vx-8100 is no different. The a-950 gets no more warm during regular calls than any other phone I have owned.

Thanks to everyone that responded. On my second attempt with Vcast, I turned the keypad light off (as suggested by wtwieder) and the phone didn't nearly as warm. Problem solved!

How did you turn the keyboard light off? Is there a simple, quick temporary way? Did you see any difference in the battery consumption with the keyboard light off?

Go to Settings and Tools, then to Display, then to Backlight, then to Keypad. There are 5 options: 5 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, Always on, Always off. Set it to always off and you're set! 😉

Thanks. I was hoping for a quicker way, because I generally like keeping the backlight on for 5 sec. Oh, well, I am getting rid of VCAST anyway at the end of the month. It is just too darn slow and not worth $15 a month to me.
