lack of cnet.com review

I've been waiting weeks, anticipating a review from cnet on this phone and on the SCH-A970, too. What's the deal? Usually CNET is good about posting reviews and video of the phones on their site. I wonder if this is a bad sign for the phone? Or maybe CNET is biased against Samsung, I don't know. I wanted to compare their review of the Rokr to this phone, because an mp3 player is high on my phone *extras* wishlist. I've been spending a lot of time researching phones to get a new one next month and this one is in the top 3 for me. Anyone know where I can find reviews of the two phones to compare?

You should check the reviews here. Look above and you will read a review on the a-950 and about its problems as an mp3 player, ie. lack of direct connectivity to your computer; requirement for a fragile microSD card, lack of software options, etc. It is a great phone but it isn't a great MP3 player if that's what you are looking for. If you want Verizon service, your options do not include the Rokr, which I believe shares the same fragile microSD card. Every other phone that Verizon offers suffers to some extent from computer connectivity issues, although bitpalm is out for the vx-8100 and allows people to manipulate mp3 files on that phone.

What are you talking about lack of connectivity to your PC and using Bitpim for MP3's?????? You don't use Bitpim for MP3's, you use it for ringtones and you put your MP3's on your card, not by direct connect w/ your phone.

Mary, I think he meant manipulate the mp3 files so they could be used directly as ringtones. This is something you can do with bitpim.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. By lack of connectivity, I meant that you must put your files on the microSD card in order to get them into your phone. You have no way right now of loading them directly through a usb cable or with Bluetooth into your phone. You are correct that Bitpalm is used to manipulate the mp3 files once they are in your phone, but it still requires a connection. Hopefully, there will be a Bitpalm version for the a-950 soon.

Yes, I have been checking the reviews here. And they have been very helpful. I was hoping to find more, and thought that cnet might be able to provide more review material from an unbiased view. Not that all the reviews on here are "biased" per se, but I would assume it's Cnet's duty to provide true, unbiased reviews. I currently have Verizon, but my contract is up next month and I am willing to change my service for a worthy mp3 phone, but from all my research most are pretty limited. I read that the Motorola Razr (not Rockr) is adding a new edition phone with an mp3 player and will probably be offered through Verizon. Doesn't make sense that they are adding this type of phone with the Rockr out, but who knows? Maybe I'll wait until then....
