Verizon's thinking for their new phones definitely seems to be "bigger is better". All of their V-Cast phones are monsters. This is just another big, silver flip phone to add to the list.

Remember a couple years ago when Verizon had the v60i, the a530, and were supposed to get the Motorola v810? What ever happened to compact, stylish, functional phones? I know Verizon is hoping to make a boatload of money charging $15/month for V-Cast, but I think there is still a big market for the smaller, full-function phone. The only one they really have now is the a670, and my friend just told me that they are discontinuing it in favor of V-Cast enabled phones. If this trend continues, it may be time to switch providers!

Ya know, I have a v710 and a Samsung a680. And I gotta tell ya, I can't stand the small phones now. Even though it's hard, I can still cradle my 710 in my shoulder when I have to use my hands for something, forget about it with the Samsung clam. That's just one size +/-. Maybe you are the type of person that will buy the Dick Tracy watches when they come to town. Talk about small full-function!

I agree with the man here. This phone will take up some considerable real estate in your pocket, but it is a mega-multimedia device. I hate to be redundant, but how much room will you be saving in comparison to carrying around your "smaller" phone, Sony digicam, iPod, high-speed wireless modem, and who knows what else? Try fitting all those in your jogging pants - personally, I'd rather not.

Now some of you that feel like they've reached a moment of epiphany and posted: "a phone is a phone, not an iPod." Others simply want something tiny. If you fit into either category, then buy this one! The A970 was designed for people like us, because there's already phones out there for people like you. Now rest assured, because I do not mind add...

EXACTLY!!! I have been waiting for a small phone (and am still waiting) for a while now. I did buy the SAM but the vibrate and battery life were terrible. I had the LG 510 now have the 6000 and it seems they keep getting bigger and bigger. I would love to see a Slider come out b/c you can have the best of two worlds, small when it is closed and big when it is open.

Myself I have the Sanyo SCP 5500 and I like the size and all of the fearures. I am really excited about the Samsung A970 having more! Is the speakerphone Full duplex or half duplex as is my SCP 5500? It is much better to have Full Duplex.
I have read that SPRINT may carry it as the SCH 940.
Although I am thinking seriously about switching carriers anyway to Verizon.

believe it or not, I just purchased the little motorola v8160 on ebay to be use with Verizon. It comes to a point where I just want to just the phone as a "phone" for a change. I love this little devil v8160, so small.
