Sprint version = A940

Rumors about a Sprint version of this phone are correct. It's the A940. It looks exactly the same, except for a slightly restyled keypad, and three buttons on the outside instead of four. Other than that... pretty much the same phone.

Will the sprint version have ready-link? And is anyone else getting a crazy a600 vibe from this phone?

Definitely A600 vibe but a lot better. Unfortunately no ReadyLink. ☚ī¸ If it had RL it would have been my next phone.

I guess the A940 will be one of the upcoming EVDO enabled phones that Sprint will offer when it introduces it's EVDO high speed service. By the way, does anyone know how much Sprint will charge for their EVDO services? And what will those services include? I sure hope that it's better than their terrible "Mobi-tv" service. I tried it, and it's very choppy and I can barely hear it from my Sanyo MM-7400.

Yes. This is the phone that will replace my LG PM-325. Getting tired of having a slider... plus... Samsung is likely to give us FULL un-CRIPPED BT support. #777 DUN as well. Sammy is taking over... seeing as how Sanyo has disabled #777 in their last 3 phones.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is 777 DUN?

Tethering your phone to your laptop and dialing #777 to use your Vision data services to surf with your laptop. However... now that I think about it... Sprint may FORCE Samsung to disable it... to prevent people from EV-DO tethering.

I have been in contact with a Regional Samsung Rep who confirmed the release of the A940 sometime in Q3 and also the release of the A960, both are written for EVDO. Below is a excerpt from the Rep's email:

"The giant (A940) is a very media-centric product, with a 280 degree rotating flip and camcorder capabilities of over an hour. The Oracle (A960) is more of a music/movie phone with downloadable Sprint content that customizes all of your menus and displays (for example, download a NASCAR theme and your external OLED display looks like a gas gauge). Some cool stuff!"

Thank You for the reply!! I understand that the Sprint version will have a few less
features on it than the Verizon version..

Do you have any info on that, and what the
differences will be? I was thinking os switching to Verzion for better prices and
signal than Sprint. Also I read in Consumer's
Report that Sprint will/does carry Fox News
and Verizon doesn't.

i am vzw rep...and talked to a samsung rep who comes by once in awhile to ask questions about their phones...i asked if sprint was to get the 940...she said no...due to bluetooth issues...which is occuring with the treo 650...she said it will most likely be the 920...which is bluetoothless megapixelless...etc...

I have in fact seen a 940 for sprint. The samsung rep told you no, becuase you work for verizon. Sprint doesn't want VZW in their kool aid, ya dig? The bluetooth is even gonna support stereo headsets, obex, and DUN. 🙂
