After charging the phone for about 18 hours, I activated it early this morning. So far, it simply rocks! The main screen is brilliant, the keys are well spaced, the sound quality is shockingly good--blows away my crappy T730. The speaker phone works also beautifully, the test calls that I have made have received positive comments about the sound quality. Of course the speaker works with the flip open, then again it makes sense, as it blasts the incoming sound through the dual stereo speakers. It's actually too loud at max level.

The interface is very intuitive, I have managed to configure the phone to my liking. The backlight for those who need to know is blue. The backlight is timed and is configurable for external, internal and t...

some more comments:

the font size issue is very puzzling. 9800 offers two font sizes: normal and large, I have toggled between the two and they seem identical or stock in the normal mode.

A question to LG people, is this a malfunction?

I believe "font size" only pertains to the numbers you see on the screen when you are dialing out. It has no effect on text messaging, contacts, etc.

Does that work properly??

That is correct. It does only pertain to font size of numbers you dial, nothing else. As far as questions regarding free ringtones and wallpaper, I'm sure Bitpim will work to do this as it does on the 8100.

Shiva,
Great mini review about your experiences so far with the VX-9800. I’m on my third LG-VX8100, and at this point absolutely cannot stand it because of the fluctuating volume problem that they cannot seem to correct. Whatever.

I have an opportunity to upgrade into a different phone because of all the problems I’ve experienced with the VX-8100, and am strongly considering the VX-9800. In fact, I’ve narrowed my selection down to the VX-9800 or the upcoming Samsung SCH-A950 (the one with the scroll wheel on the front, NOT the 970). I made a few test calls with the VX-9800, and was blow away with just how good it sounded. Not only is the volume great in the earpiece (unlike it VX-8100 even after the upgrade…), the sound quality wa...

Hi, I'm on my second day of using this phone and it has been exceptional so far except for one thing: the fonts are tooooooo small and I have pretty good eye-sight.

The sound quality, specially using the speakerphone is very loud, which comes in handy in a noisy environment. I was at a sporting event last night, and it was so loud I couldn't hear the handset speaker, but the dual speakers came through for me.

I haven't tried the auto volume. Neither the card reader and nor the text to speech.

I don't text, but I use Yahoo e-mail extensively. That's why I needed the QWERTY.

So far, so good... more later...

I believe the text2speech allows for the phone to read received text and voicemail messages to you.
