Hey there- I was soo on my way to get a T-Mobile Sidekick, to use it only for data and keep my verizon phone for the phone- till I saw this beauty- but I really only want this kind of a phone if it has AOL YAHOO Instant Messaging and a way to get my Outlook email sent to this lil thing as well- If any one out there knows- please let me know :0)

since no one will stand up, ill jump in.

i have an 8100 and a sidekick. yes youre right, why get a sidekick if you can get this? remember that aol on it would cost A LOT of txt! my data package with tmobile is $30 a month for unlimited data. if you do just go for the 9800, becareful you dont overdue your txting with it. thats one thing i was concerned about when i thought about getting it. having my sidekick has been pretty convenient for at work and at home because i fried my graphics card in my computer and its been getting fixed for a couple weeks. i miss it a lot... 😢

thats how it is on all vzw phones. like on the newer lg phones you can connect to aim and msn and yahoo but it costs you per message. im pretty sure of this. its definatly not worth it though.

I was reading about the 9800 somewhere and i could have sworn I read something about a data package you would be able to get for this phone. I believe the yahoo/aol/msn messangers are pre-loaded onto the phone, but I'm not sure if thats the same application that anyone could get with get it now for free, or if its a different deal??? I agree though it pretty much isnt even worth doing the messangers unless you are able to get an unlimited package. I have the $10 unlimited tx, pix, and flix package with 250 extra messages, and if the 250 extra messages are all i can use for the msn/yahoo/aol stuff than forget it!!! Hopefully verizon will have an unlimited package or let you use the free in txt messages for the messangers.

The data package you're thinking of is part of the Vcast offering. It gives unlimited airtime for 1xRTT and IS-95 data sessions: Things like WAP, VCast, the payload of picture and video messages, etc.

The "$10 unlimited tx, pix, and flix package with 250 extra messages" is not "unlimited". It's "unlimited IN" -- that is, unmetered to other VZW phone numbers, 250 for everything else.

The VZW mobile IM applet sends the messages to a paticular short code, never directly to another phone. So it never counts as "IN". You'd pay per message after the 250 allowance.

Ooops, in the first paragraph I meant to say it gives unlimited airtime for -1XEVDO-, 1X, and IS-95 🙂

The phone is already pictured on the VZW wireless sync web page, which means it will be POP mail capable...

If your using AIM on the phone, a way to save some money and not go over txt limit is get the "IN" unlimited txt messages...check out the deal http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/html/IN_Messaging /index.jsp

So when they say this phone has TXT messaging- they mean the regular phont to phone text which costs per txt? Because Im looking for a phone that can put me on AIM and Yahoo IM and connect me to my outlook email. Should i stay with the t-mobile?

Yes this phone has regular txt messaging. If you get unlimted it's free verizon to verizon. There is somehthing called "Get it Now" on all verizon phones. You can download a program from "Get it Now" called "mobile IM" which consists of Yahoo, MSN, and AOL messenger. This program is free. There isn't a program that comes on the phone for this usage. I'm not sure about your outlook email. It says email but who knows if thats a verizon acocunt email.

I am familiar with the mobile IM program, my question is if someone has unlimited in txt/pix/flix, can they use the IM program and not get charged every message they send? Because the details state that it's only free if you send the message to another verizon wireless customer....so do they count the IM program as a verizon customer or not? Thats my big question. Because if they dont include it, I only have 250 additonal messages and i cant be wasting them on mobile IM. If anyone has an answer to this please let me know, its kind of a dealbreaker on me getting the 9800.
Thanx 🙂

looking at http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/html/IN_Messaging /index.jsp it appears that if you send an IM to another VZ customer using IM then it would be included in the unlimited IN otherwise it would normally be taken out of the additional text. There is an * next to the addition messages included with the IN packages and it references to: " Applies when sending and receiving instant messages, TXT Alerts, emails,
and TXT/PIX/FLIX Messages to non-Verizon Wireless Customers". There are other text packages out there still that do not include unlimited IN, but have a lot more texts in the pool.

oh im so sorry for being slow in this area- like a big duh should be on my forehead- but- wut I think ur saying is

WITH THIS PHONE- u get free Verizon to Verizon TXT messaging- ANYTHING ELSE- thru getitnow or not is going to cost u because its not verizon to verizon- which means- if I download the YAHOO aol IM- then it will be an un-verizon txt which costs - and takes up however many messages in my 2500 mess. for 15 dollars a month?
