Nokia 6101 / 6102
6101 vs. 6102 Will both work with Cingular?
My dog ate my 3 week old 6102 and I am in desperate need of another phone. I like my 6102, but they are $160 and up on ebay, not to mention more than that at other places. Someone told me to get a 6101 from Target for around $130 and it would work the same. I have service with Cingular, so I didn't know if the 6101 would work or not. Can anyone give me any info about it? Thanks.

I would strongly suggest NOT getting a 6101 if you're a Cingular subscriber. Let's just say from personal experience that purchasing the 6101 was a mistake. While there are unlocked phones out there that will permit you to make calls on the phone using your Cingular sim, if you hope to use any of the web browsing features, you won't be able to because the software is locked to the carrier's network, and in the case of the 6101, that's not Cingular. I really would suggest you saving yourself the headache and just get another 6102 if you really like the phone. I got mine on eBay and am very happy with it.

yes the 6101 is the t-mobile version of the cingular 6102. but let's back up. dude, don't you have insurance on your phone? they should replace your phone for the $50 deductible.
but if you are looking for the 6101 route. you have to simply get the phone "unlocked" and then, go to the www.nokiausa.com/phones/6101 site and have the cingular network setting sent to the phone via text message. then your phone will work just fine. i know, because thats what i did, and i've been just fine for about a month now. web browsing and all.
