Is the problem Cingular or Audiovox? Is Nokia better?

conundrum

Oct 16, 2005, 10:53 AM
I just switched from an LG vx3100 with Verizon to an Audiovox 5600 with Cingular. The sound quality of the new phone is horrible (tinny and low volume, like I'm talking in a tunnel). Is the problem with Audiovox or the Cingular network? Will switching to a Nokia (6682), still with Cingular, solve the problem? Audiovox seems better for synching to Outlook (also important to me) but the sound quality is unbearable.

Apologies for cross posting.

I think it may be the Audiovox. My co-worker has the same device and does not have that issue. However, I do believe the nokia would be much better but syncing with 5600 may be easier

Don't let the post police get to ya....

The 6682 syncs smoothly with Outlook, have done so with 6230 and 6682.

Nokia PC suite also made a painless Bluetooth
modem connection to my laptop.

The 6682 also has the fastest data speed of any phone offered by Cingular.

The screen is 800% better.

Much better browser, either built-in or Opera.

They only thing that could swing someone to the 5600 would be if they insisted on a smaller form factor.

I have not used ActiveSync (for the Audiovox), but the 6682 has only the most basic syncing capabilities. I was very disappointed.

You can easily and cleanly sync Outlook with the 6682 using the Nokia PC Suite, BUT you must have a basic/simple Outlook configuration. All your information must either be on the Exchange Server or in the Personal Folder. You can't sync easily with data from both.

You can't sync something from Exchange (e.g., Calender) at the same time you sync something different from Personal Folders (e.g., Contacts). You have to sync the Exchange Calender (select only Calender in the PC Suite sync settings), then sync again with the Personal Folder Contacts (select only Contacts in the sync settings).
